William “Mike” Sanders
Memorial services for William Michael (Mike) Sanders, 47, of
Mammoth, were held Saturday, May 14 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in
Gainesville with Ed Murray officiating.
Mr. Sanders died May 11, 2005, at his home. He was born June 11,
1957, in Baxter County, Ark., the son of Cleetis and Erma Lee Sanders
of Dugginsville. He married Alicia Anderson of Mammoth, July 3, 1976,
in Gainesville.
He attended school at Lutie and Gainesville. He graduated from
Yellville-Summit High School at Yellville, Ark., in 1975. He then
studied heavy equipment service at the technical college in Harrison,
Ark.
He was the plant manager for Giles and Kendall Cedar Plant in
Gainesville until he became ill in 2004.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, motorcycling, working
with computer architectural design and spending time with his family
and friends.
He was a special person, a man of integrity and intelligence,
constantly reading and learning, solid, strong and kind. Those who
knew him were blessed by his presence in their life. During his
illness, his life was a testimony to those who visited with him. He
shared what the Lord had done for him, what he was being shown and
where he was going when he would be called to step from this life to
his new one as he crossed the river of life. He will be missed by many.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Alicia; one daughter, Jehnna;
his father, Cleetis Sanders of Gainesville; two sisters, Dianne Rose
and Maria Cantrell, both of Dugginsville; two nieces, Maria Rose of
Theodosia and Tonya Gregory of Springfield; two nephews, Jacob Cantrell
of Theodosia and Mike Gregory of Springfield; one uncle, Ottie Long of
Theodosia; and two aunts, Ava Pettit and Eunice Baker, both of
Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Gordon Lee Riffey, 83, of Gainesville, died May 7, 2005, at St.
John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield.
Mr. Riffey was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Charleston, W.V., the son of
Trask and Nannie Pearl (Teets) Riffey. He married Twila Mary Barnhart
in December 1945, in Pennsylvania.
He was a resident of Gainesville since moving from Bradenton,
Fla., in 1977. He was a maintenance worker for Baxter Regional Medical
Center in Mountain Home, Ark., for several years before retiring. He
had also worked for the Bradenton, Fla., school system.
He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in Europe
during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working around
his home.
Mr. Riffey is survived by one son, Randy Riffey and his wife,
Brenda, of Gainesville; one daughter, Kathy Nolder of Springfield; four
grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

James Allen Call
Graveside services for James Allen Call, 46, of Isabella, will be
at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 21 at Girdner Cemetery with Rev. Donald Potter
officiating.
Mr. Call died May 12, 2005, in Christian County from injuries
sustained in an auto accident. He was born May 17, 1958, in Exeter,
Calif., the son of Lawrence Call and Betty Turner Brown.
He was a resident of the Isabella community for the past 15 years,
after moving from Washington. He was a cement finisher.
Mr. Call is survived by his parents, Lawrence Call and Betty
Turner Brown, both of Neosho; one daughter, Sarah Lynn Call, and one
son, James Call, both of Oregon; four sisters, Elaine King of Ozark and
Bessie Rice, Becky Kelly and Darlene Green, all of Neosho; one brother,
Tom Call of Washington; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother.

Velma McGinnis
Graveside services for Velma McGinnis, 89, of Mountain Home, Ark.,
were held Tuesday, May 17 at Mammoth Cemetery with Halbert Smith
officiating.
Mrs. McGinnis died May 16, 2005, at Auburn Hills Health and Rehab
in Mountain Home, Ark. She was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Mammoth, the
daughter of William Wesley and Hattie (Totten) Anderson. She married
Euel D. McGinnis May 25, 1941, at Howards Ridge.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker.
Mrs. McGinnis is survived by two daughters, Sue Ward of Marion,
N.C., and Joan Stone of Clarkridge, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Euel; her parents; one
son, William McGinnis; one grandson, Shane McGinnis; and three sisters,
Elsa, Elsie, and Thelma McGinnis.
Pallbearers were Eugene Strong, Mike Stone, Roland Stone, James
Stone and Jay Hoskins.

Jewell Tackitt
Funeral services for Jewell Tackitt, 90, of West Plains, were held
Sunday, May 15, at Elijah Church of Christ. Burial was in Elijah
Cemetery.
Mrs. Tackitt died May 12, 2005, at National Health Center. She
was born May 17, 1914, in Elijah, the daughter of Willis M. and Martha
(Hill) Tackitt. She married Arvel Tackitt Sept. 8, 1934, at Elijah.
She wrote many poems, enjoyed drawing and quilting and loved her
family. She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the
Elijah and Curry Street churches of Christ.
Mrs. Tackitt is survived by two sons, Hollis Tackitt and his wife,
Nancy, of Brentwood, Tenn., and Marcus Dean Tackitt of Lamar; three
daughters, Vernetta Collins and her husband Loren, of West Plains,
Francie Hardin and her husband, Joe, of Caulfield and Carol Richardson
of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Tackitt of
Caulfield; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-
grandchildren; two brothers, Leolen Tackitt and his wife, Edith, of
Viola, Ark., and Billy Joe Tackitt and his wife, Patsy, of Caulfield;
four sisters, Blanche Hardin and her husband, Richard, and Pauline Bean
and her husband, Gene, all of Caulfield, Doris Bonham of West Plains
and Myrtle Hensley of Elijah; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel, in 2001; her
parents; one son, Marvin; three sisters, Katherine Tackitt, Snowie
Spoon and Esther Langston; and one brother, J.B. Tackitt.

Funeral services for Maxine Sanders, 70, of Gainesville, were held Monday,
May 1 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home with Gale Wooten officiating. Burial
was in the Lilly Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Sanders died April 28, 2006, at her home. She was born Nov. 6, 1935,
at Hocomo, the daughter of Camby and Mary (Casto) Batesel. She and William
Sanders were married July 24, 1954, in Kansas City.
She attended Mammoth Assembly of God. She worked in the cafeteria at
Gainesville Elementary School for many years.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, Bill; two daughters, Linda
Connelly of West Plains and Leila Steele of Tontitown, Ark.; four
grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, C. N. Batesel of
West Plains and Paul Batesel of Mayville, N.D.; and one sister, Nancy
Batesel of West Plains.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Carolyn Sanders.
Pallbearers were Don Morgan, Gordon Thompson, Jerry Fugitt, Jack Grimmett,
Don Amyx and Jim Britt.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Standlee, Jim Kyle, Bill Anderson, Roy

Funeral services for George Robert Huse, 80, of Hardenville, were held
Friday, April 28 at Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church in Hardenville with
Jeff Dotson and Dale Roberts officiating. Burial was in the Lilly Ridge
Cemetery.
Mr. Huse died April 24, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 29, 1925, at
Bakersfield, the son of Henry E. and Gertie (Hathcock) Huse. He and Ida
Mae Rackley were married March 10, 1948, in Mountain Home, Ark.
He was a resident of Ozark County his entire life and was an active member
of Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School
secretary/treasurer for many years. He served as Postmaster at Hardenville
Post Office for 12 years. He also served as clerk of the Ozark County
Probate Court under Judge G. W. Rogers.
Mr. Huse was a school bus driver for Gainesville Schools for 19 years,
owned and worked at the Hardenville General Store, worked for local
plumbing and electrical shops, worked as bank courier. However, his
favorite occupation was being on the farm and raising cattle. He continued
this occupation until his death.
He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
While on active duty, he served as a construction engineer with the 1387th
Engineers in the Phillipines and as a battery clerk with the 834th
Anti-Aircraft in South Korea.
Mr. Huse is survived by his wife, Ida Mae; one daughter, Carol King and
her husband, Wayman, of Gainesville; two sons, Mike Huse and his wife,
Brenda, of Russellville, Ark., and Jeffrey Huse and his wife, Stacey, of
Centreville, Va.; five granddaughters, Angela MacLaughlin and her husband,
Jeremy, of Springfield, Christina Webster of Little Rock, Ark., Holly Huse
and Emily Huse of Centreville, Va., and Nicole Huse of Tempe, Ariz.; three
grandsons, Eric King of Gainesville, Jeffrey Biffle of Russellville, Ark.,
and Jakob Huse of Centreville, Va.; two great-grandsons, Nathan
MacLaughlin of Springfield and Shelby Biffle of Jonesboro, Ark.; two
sisters, Dorthy Pendergrass of Russellville, Ark., and Inez Martin and her
husband, Johnie of Peck, Kan.; and one brother, Donald Huse and his wife,
Betty, of Lovelady, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lonez Ingram.

MacLaughlin, Jeff Biffle, Tim Lee and Sid Smith.

Graveside services for Herman Wayne Miller, 85, of Tecumseh, were held
Thursday, April 27 at Lilly Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Miller died April 24, 2006, at his home. He was born March 11, 1921,
in Mangham, La., the son of Wayne Sutton and Beulah Virginia (Wallace)
Miller. He and Derrylene Lewis were married Jan. 24, 1947, in Hernando,
Miss.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He
was a former Memphis, Tenn., police officer, owner and operator of
Pleasant View Kennels in Memphis and a professional dog trainer for more
than 50 years.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Derrylene; two sons, Larry Miller of
Memphis, Tenn., and Mark Miller of Seymour; two grandchildren, Dustin
Wayne Miller and Blair Elizabeth Miller; one great-grandchild, Jaycie
Crawford; two sisters, Myra Chesher of Loranger, La., and Dorothy Williams
of Baton Rough, La.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Truett Miller,
Laddie Miller and Travis Miller; five sisters, Minnie Lee Davis, Nettie
Zachary, Donnis Cagel, June Carpenter and Ruth Baham; and an infant
brother.

Funeral services for Inez Herd, 79, were held Tuesday, May 2 at the Walnut
Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Springfield. Burial was in the Brashers
Cemetery.
Mrs. Herd died April 29, 2006, at her home after a short illness. She was
the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Snyder) Treat. She and Troy Herd were
married Jan. 10, 1944, in Mountain Home, Ark.
She was loved by all and worked for her church.
Mrs. Herd is survived by sons, J. C. Herd and his wife, Pat, Tim Herd
Craig Herd and his wife, Vivian; daughter, Mary Jane Brufett and her
husband, Larry; daughter-in-law, Wanda Herd; five sisters, Martha West,
Laura Lawson, Edna Lawson, Lula Hechler and Helen Shelton; one brother,
Franklin Treat; eight grandchildren; 16-1/2 great-grandchildren; Gunner,
who she raised and loved him as her own; and many friends, nieces, nephews
and cousins.

Visitation for Carol Francis Martin, 68, of Gainesville, were held
Tuesday, May 2 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville.
Mr. Martin died April 28, 2006, at his home. He was born June 20, 1937, in
Gorham, Maine, the son of Albert and Louise (Edgecomb) Martin.
He was an electrician technician with Western Union.
Mr. Martin is survived by four daughters, Donna Rafferty of Ashburnham,
Mass., Jean Jeffrey of Clinton, Md., Julie Smith of Niangua and Nancy
Martin of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and three brothers,
Carlton Martin of Florida, Phillip Martin of New Hampshire and Norman
Martin of California.
He was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Turner died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Gainesville Health Care
Center. She was born April 25, 1915, at Nottinghill, the daughter of
Daniel Hardy and Sarah Ann (Wright) Baker. She and Olin Russell Turner
were married April 25, 1931.
A member of the Church of Christ, she was baptized by Harold Turner many
years ago.
Mrs. Turner is survived by four daughters, Helen Rowland of Gainesville,
Anna Sobczak of St. Louis, Barbara Flowers of Bull Head City, Ariz., and
Dolly Thomas of Wasola; two sons, Russell Turner of Caliente, Nev., and
Sam Turner of Virginia; one sister, Alta Behary of Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell in 1964; her parents;
one son, Daniel Robert Turner; and two brothers, Archie and Alvis Baker.
Pallbearers were Steve Thomas, Jim Turner, Kevin Lemons, Mike Turner, Dan

Funeral services for Hughie “Hugh” Wallace, 87, of Ozark, were held
Saturday, April 22, at the Thornfield Chapel with Rev. John Haskins
officiating. Burial was in Thornfield Cemetery.
Mr. Wallace died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Primrose Health Care Center
in Springfield. He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Ozark County, the son of
McKinley and Mary (Honeycutt) Wallace.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He was a graduate of Thornfield High School and worked for Boeing Aircraft
in Wichita, Kan., for several years. He retired from Wassau Insurance
Company. After retiring, he worked part-time delivering limousines for
Springfield Limo Builders.
Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife, Euwana; one son, Roger Wallace of
Wichita, Kan.; two step-sons, David Hogue of Springfield and Mark Hogue of
Ozark; one step-daughter, Marketa Keith of Ozark; one sister, Arlene
Hillhouse and her husband, Fray, of Springfield; one brother, Eldon
Wallace and his wife, Betty, of Springfield; one grandson; two
step-grandsons; two great-grandsons; and several nieces, nephews, cousins
and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Berry Lynn and Kendell Wallace; his
parents; and one brother, Arthur Wallace.

Funeral services for Edna Jones, 64, of Noble, were held Thursday, April
13 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Oren Alcorn and Tom
Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Longrun Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones died April 10, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Gassville, Ark.
She was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Longrun, the daughter of Ted and Beulah
(Silvey) Pellham. She and Robert Jones were married Dec. 29, 1972, by Elza
McFarland at Wasola.
She lived in Ozark County most of her life. At an early age she was
converted to Christ and became a member of the Longrun General Baptist
Church.
Mrs. Jones worked at the courthouse as deputy collector for seven years
under Howard Haskins. She was then elected as Ozark County Collector. She
served as Collector for 20 years, before retiring in 2003.
She enjoyed working in her yard and garden and loved being with her family.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Robert; one daughter, Shelia White
and her husband, Jim, of Gassville, Ark.; two granddaughters, Jeana
Dresner and her husband, Matt, of West Plains and Lisa Prahl and her
husband, David, of Cotter, Ark.; three great-grandsons, Caleb and Lucas
Dresner, of West Plains and Joshua Prahl of Cotter; three sisters, Joan
Wilson Pond and her husband, Charlie, and Sharon Turner and her husband,
John, all of Theodosia and Ethel Jones and her husband, Connie, of
Thornfield; two brothers, Keith Pellham and his wife, Mildred, of Ava and
Garland Pellham and his wife, Joyce, of Wasola; and special aunt, Vada
Smith of Theodosia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ovid Pellham; and
infant brother, Loyd Pellham.
Pallbearers were Ted Pellham, Randall Pellham, Nelson Burnett, Brad
Pellham, Ray Jones, Brian Pellham, Bryson Pellham and Stan Pellham.

20 at St. Williams Catholic Church in Gainesville with Father Paul
Wightman officiating. Rosary services will be at 10:30 a.m., with a
funeral mass to be held at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Miller died April 17, 2006, at Manor Care in Springfield. She was
born April 25, 1917, in Fremont, Neb., the daughter of Nels Chris and
Hannah (Christianson) Nelson. She was married to Cotton Miller.
She was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church and had worked as a
seamstress for a casket manufacturing company.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two brothers, Harold Nelson and Clarence
Nelson, both of Omaha, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cotton; her parents; six
sisters; and three brothers.

Delmar died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s
Disease. He was born Feb. 2, 1938, at Romance, the son of Charlie and Rena
(Welch) Loftis. He married Lorene Coffey April 25, 1961, in Ava.
Delmar is survived by his wife, Lorene; two daughters, Norene Prososki and
her husband, Tim, and Tammie Mahan and her husband, Ron, all of Pontiac;
four grandchildren, Amanda Loftis and Jessica Prososki, both of Pontiac,
Johnathan Prososki of Little Rock, Ark., and Jennifer Yarger and her
husband, Zack, of Escondido, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Loftis of Ozark
and Marlin Loftis of Oldfield; and one sister, Freda Lane of Thornfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Delbert, and
brother, Clifford.
Delmar was a sales manager for Interstate Brands Corporation for 32 years
before he and Lorene retired and moved to Pontiac in 1989. He was a deacon
at Frontier General Baptist Church. Delmar loved music and played mandolin
and sang at churches around the area.
Delmar’s family would appreciate memorials to the Hospice House of the
Ozarks or Pontiac Cemetery.
Funeral services for Aline Clayton, 81, formerly of Ozark County, will be
at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville,
with Pastor Raymond Haden and Pastor Jim Hillhouse officiating. Burial
will be in Hicks Cemetery.
Mrs. Clayton died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab
Center in Waterloo, Iowa, due to complications of alzheimers. She was born
Oct. 13, 1924, in Theodosia, the daughter of Callie and Myrtle (Brown)
Mahan. She married Roland Clayton in May 1940 in Ozark County.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed doing yard work, working in her flower
gardens, and being with her neighbors, friends and family.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by two sons, Howard L. Clayton and his wife, Mae,
and Harold D. Clayton, all of Waterloo, Iowa; one granddaughter, Christine
and Jeff Budensick Dunlap of Waterloo; two grandsons, Bruce Clayton and
his wife, Kellie, of Waterloo, and Arlin Clayton and his wife, Laurie, of
Evansdale, Iowa; four step-grandsons, Andy Anderson of Vero Beach, Fla.,
Steve Anderson of Waterloo, and Jordan Dunlap and Clayton Kittelson; three
great-grandchildren, Bryant Budensick, Kaley Clayton and Kyle Clayton; one
brother, Bill Mahan and his wife, Juanita, of Theodosia; and two sisters,
Beaulah Mashburn of Theodosia and Jean Hillhouse and her husband, Ray, of
Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, in 1974, and her parents.

Memorial services for Archie Vernon Hackler, 78, of Tacoma, Wash., will be
held at a later date. Burial was in Firlane Cemetery in Spanaway, Wash.
Mr. Hackler died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in Chandler, Ariz.
He was born Nov. 22, 1927, at his grandmother Mary Mahan’s home near old
Theodosia, the fourth child of Melburn and Bessie (Mahan) Hackler. His
father was killed in a hunting accident in June 1927.
For the past 48 years, he and his wife, Ericka, had lived in Tacoma,
Wash., where he was a real estate broker until retiring in 1976.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Military, having served for 20 years in
Europe and Vietnam.
Mr. Hackler was a member of the Life Center Church in Tacoma, Wash., and
worked for several years in the Life Center Church street ministries.
He loved his family and was known for his generosity and sense of humor.
He enjoyed reading his morning scriptures, traveling with his wife,
golfing with his brothers and friends and was an avid gardener.
He enjoyed coming back to Ozark County for Hootin an Hollarin and seeing
family and friends. He had already made plans to come this year for the
festival.
Mr. Hackler is survived by his wife, Ericka, of 53 years; one daughter,
Debra McGaffin; two grandsons, Johnathan Gummeringer and Nickolas Hackler,

Funeral services for W. E. “Bill” Jones, 86, of Huntington, Texas, were
held Sunday, Feb. 19 at Gipson-Metcalf Chapel in Lufkin, Texas, with Rev.
Bob Lewis officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Memorial Park in
Lufkin.
Mr. Jones died Feb. 15, 2006, at his home. He was born Sept. 27, 1919, in
Ozark County, the son of Nancy (Owens) and Lexa Jones.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He
was a retired self-employed auto mechanic and was a life-member of VFW
Post 1836.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Madalyn; two sons, Jack Jones of Bow,
Wash., and Roger Jones of Kennard, Texas; one daughter, Helen Hall of
Pflugerville, Texas; one step-son, Victor Allison of Lewisville, Texas;
one step-daughter, Shirley Reynolds of Lufkin, Texas; and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virgie Jones on
Aug. 20, 1980; one sister, Marcella Reich; and one brother, Max Jones.

Hazel died April 6, 2006. She was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Holly, Colo., the
daughter of Wendell Marshall and Tena Hazel (Snelson) Jones.
She was a life long resident of the Wasola and Ava area and attended Oak
Grove General Baptist Church. She was a Christian and was baptized at the
age of 17. She loved children and was a childcare giver for many years for
her family, caring for her nieces and nephews. She was also a loving
caregiver to her mother. She enjoyed doing needle work, picking berries
and mushrooms, reading and playing cards and puzzles.
Hazel is survived by two sisters, Gloria Evans and her husband, Gary, of
Noble, and Maxine Stewart and her husband, Voyne, of Blue Springs; two
brothers, John Jones and his wife, Charlene, and Douglas Jones and his
wife, Linda, all of Gassville, Ark.; many nieces and nephews; and a host
of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Athel
Snelson; and one sister, Berniece Heriford Glover.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Odessa and a stay-at-home
mother.

Mr. Owens died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, from a blood clot in his lung. He
was born Feb. 27, 1938.
He moved with his family from San Diego, Calif., to Gainesville in 1982,
when he purchased Miller’s Store. He owned and operated the store from
1982 until 2002.
Mr. Owens is survived by two sons, Brad Owens and Brent Owens, both of
Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Jennifer Easley of Topeka, Kan.; and six
grandchildren, Brandon, Grant, Spencer, Zachery, Cloe and Maddison.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, in 2002.

Services were held Friday in Clovis, N.M., for Phillip Mark Hall, 58, son
of Dollie Jean Luna Hall and the late L. S. “Bud” Hall. He died Nov. 1 in
Clovis of an apparent stroke.
He was born May 10, 1947, the grandson and great-grandson of Ozark County
natives Clifford and Pearl Hunt Luna, and George B. and Florence Morrison
Hunt, and the cousin of several Ozark County residents, including the
family and descendents of the late Cleo and Carrie Hunt Luna.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Hall, of Clovis.
His grandparents, Pearl and Clifford Luna, left Ozark County after World
War I to work in a confectionary shop in Globe, Ariz., that was run by
former Ozark Countians Clifford and Edith Upton.
Later Clifford Luna moved the family to Portales, N.M., where he became
the manager of a J C Penney store. Clifford and Pearl’s daughter, Dollie
Jean, married Bud Hall, and after he served in the Navy during World War
II, they eventually settled in Clovis.

Shasta County, Calif., from Pacoima, Calif.

28, 1931, in Mountain Grove, the daughter of William E. and Louise Harris

She was raised in Ozark County. She and her husband had lived in Kearney
for 35 years. She was a former member and past president of the Republican
Women’s Club in Ozark County. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge,
where she served as past Noble Grand and past District Noble Grand. She
was a member of the Gainesville Church of Christ.
Mrs. Mooney is survived by her husband, Clayton; two daughters, Jeanie
Richison of Gainesville and Dana McConnell and her husband, Roger, of

Electric. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was a loving wife, mother
and grandmother.

her husband, Ed, and Joe Watkins and friend, Connie, all of Dora; six

Funeral services for William Mearl Strong, 75, of Gainesville, were held
Friday, July 29 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Burial was

Mr. Strong died July 27, 2005. He was born Dec. 15, 1929, the son of
Lisses and Ethel (Pitcock) Strong. He married Mamie Friend July 20, 1949,
in Mountain Home, Ark.
He was raised in Ozark County and attended school in the Sallee and Luna
schoolhouses. He was a truck driver for more than 20 years. He owned
Mearl’s Tire Service for seven years and was a farmer.
Mr. Strong also worked for the Gainesville School District as a bus
mechanic before retiring in 1992. After retiring, he continued driving the
activity bus to school events and basketball games.
He enjoyed fishing, trips with his family to Wisconsin each summer,
chasing squirrels out of his tomatoes, bowling, playing cards with friends
and mowing down his wife’s flowers.
He was a member of the Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church.
Mr. Strong is survived by his wife, Mamie; two sons, Gene Strong and his

Mr. Cubbage died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in St. Louis, after a long battle
with multiple myeloma. He was born April 1, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, the
son of G. O. and Carmen (Conery) Cubbage. He married Verla Mosman April 2,
1961.
He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1957. After
graduation, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960.
Mr. Cubbage worked for Rock Island Railroad Company from 1960 to 1966. He
then worked as a deputy bailiff for the City of Des Moines from 1967 to
1973. In January 1973, he along with wife and children purchased Spring
Creek Resort in Isabella and operated the resort until 1987. Verne’s final
career was as a self-employed commercial printing salesman from 1987 to
2003. In 2003, he retired and he and his wife moved to Hollister.
He always put his family and friends first and loved attending his
children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He especially enjoyed driving
the school bus to take students to special events around the Midwest. His
greatest pastime was fishing when he wasn’t hard at work.
Mr. Cubbage is survived by his wife, Verla; one daughter, Jennifer Camacho
and her husband, Steve, of Nixa; one son, Jerry Cubbage and his wife,
Julie, of Wildwood; one grandson, Jake Camacho; two step-grandchildren,
Jordan and Mike Camacho; four sisters; two brothers; two brothers-in-law;
two sisters-in-law; and 15 nieces and nephews.

1965. He served with the 101st Airborne at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He was also a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Nebraska. He was honorably
discharged in 1967 after returning home from Vietnam.
Supporting his family of 40 years as an over-the-road truck driver, he
worked for Operant Systems Corp., for the department of mental health with
colleague and friend Doug Cummins.

Florence Alberta Stimpert Myers, 95, died Dec. 9, 2005. Memorial services
will be in Galva, Ill., and will be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Myers was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Panola, Ill., the daughter of
Theobald and Frederika (Reiner) Stimpert. She married C. H. Myers in 1936,
at Galva, Ill.
She graduated from El Paso, Ill., High School in 1928, and attended
college in Chicago, Ill., South Dakota and graduated with a degree in
physical education from Sterling College in Sterling, Kan., in 1932. She
taught physical education in Galva, Ill., Kenosha, Wis., and Lockport,
Ill.
Mrs. Myers also operated a children’s store in Princeton, Ill., for many
years, and sold Childcraft books and silver door to door in western
Illinois.
She was the executive director of the Waukegan, Ill., YWCA for two years
and a dance teacher for several years.
She retired in 1975 and moved to Florida where she was very active in
senior citizens affairs and the Grey Panthers organization. She was a
member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Sarasota, Fla.
Mrs. Myers is survived by three children, Derek Myers and his wife, Rhoda,
of Blacksburg, Va., Paul Myers of Roanoke, Va., and Jane Elder and her

Funeral services for Bill “B.E.” Jennings, 69, of Protem, were held
Sunday, Dec. 4, at Forsyth Whelchel Chapel. Burial was in Protem Cemetery.
Mr. Jennings died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug.
28, 1936, in Protem, the son of Elijah and Linda (Coiner) Jennings. He and
his wife, Alma, were married Jan. 20, 1963, in Ocie.
He was a member of the Protem Pentecostal Church. He worked for the city
of Branson as a truck driver in the Public Works Department.
Mr. Jennings is survived by his wife, Alma; one daughter, Karen Huffman
and her husband, Larry, of Ocie; two sons, Kevin Jennings and his wife,
Tera, of Hollister and Amiel Jennings and his wife, Cindy, of Ocie; four
grandchildren, Alisha Huffman, Dustin Huffman, Tyler Jennings and Heath
Jennings; Allison Richey, whom he loved as one of his own; three sisters,
Irene Smith of Isabella and Emmagene Hillhouse and Charlene Schofield,
both of Theodosia; and four brothers, Raymond Jennings of Protem, Glendon
Jennings of Gainesville, Arnold Jennings of Theodosia and Denzil Jennings

Mrs. Gade died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at her home. She was born Sept. 4,
1938, in West Milton, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Mary (Brown)
Steiner. She married Norman Gade Dec. 18, 1988, in Dayton, Ohio.
She was a member of the Theodosia United Methodist Church and had been an
accountant at Miami Industries Steel Tube Co.
Mrs. Gade is survived by three children, Scarlett Smith, Sam Helmick and
Scott Helmick, all of Troy, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and four siblings,
Doug Steiner of Michigan, Dick Steiner of Florida, Sonia Phillips of
Wisconsin and Isis Dillon of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman on Nov. 3, 2005, and her

Funeral services for Hazel Crawford, 89, of Mountain Home, Ark., were held
Nov. 23, 2005, at the College and North Church of Christ in Mountain Home

Mrs. Crawford died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Pine Lane Health Care in
Mountain Home, Ark. She was born March 12, 1916, in Clarkridge, Ark., the
daughter of George and Bertie (Gist) Simpson. She married Marshall
Crawford Sept. 16, 1933, in Ozark County.
Mrs. Crawford, a lifetime area native and member of a pioneer Baxter
County, Ark., family, owned three grocery stores with her husband, two of
them at Clarkridge. She also served as postmaster of Clarkridge Post
Office.
She was a member of the College and North Church of Christ in Mountain
Home, Ark., and its Ladies Bible Class and was active in helping the
visually impaired.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by two sons, Bobby Crawford and his wife, Dyana,
and Joey Crawford and his wife, Nancy, all of Mountain Home, Ark.; one
daughter Marcelene Lloyd and her husband, Ted, of Searcy, Ark.; one
brother, Rhoby Simpson of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Rees Lloyd
and his wife, Mandy, Melissa Master and her husband, Robert, Kelly Martin
and her husband, Tim, Stacey Covington and her husband, Rodney, Jason
Crawford, Vanessa Martin and her husband, Tom, and Amy Barnett and her
husband, Monty; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; her parents; three
brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Martin died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at Cox South Hospital in
Springfield. She was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Trail, the daughter of Richard
and Polly (Workman) Trail. She married Tan William Martin Feb. 8, 1946.
She was a member of the Odom Church of Christ.
Mrs. Martin is survived by seven children, Inez Martin of Springfield;
Dillard Martin and his wife, Dorothy, of Creedmoor, N.C., Richard Martin
and his wife, Becky, and Loretta Anderson and her husband, Mike, of
Springfield, Lonez Simmons and her husband, Bob, of Fair Play, Rick Martin

Staff Sgt. Robert C. "Rob" Hobbs, 29, died Nov. 3 in Germany when he was
struck by a civilian car while tending to his disabled military vehicle on
the roadside. Services were held Nov. 14 at Baue Funeral Home in St.
Charles.
He was the son of Linda Hobkirk of St. Charles and former Ozark County
resident Gary Hobbs, who now lives in West Plains with his wife, Leadon.
Rob had served in the U. S. Army for 11 years, two in the reserves and
nine on active duty, including a 15-month tour in Iraq. He was a senior
supply clerk. According to Nov. 15 article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
citing an Army press release, "The accident occurred while he and a fellow
soldier were fueling a truck on the side of the autobahn near Giessen."
The Post-Dispatch quoted high school friend Brett Dunsford as saying that
Hobbs "was setting out emergency markers when a truck driven by a civilian
veered onto the shoulder and hit him. Manslaughter charges against the
driver are pending in Germany."
Dunsford told the Post-Dispatch Hobbs was "hand-picked for the mission to
storm the Mosul palace of Saddam Hussein's eldest son, Uday Hussein. . . .
During that tour, he survived an attack on his vehicle and was recognized
with more than 10 meritorious service awards for his bravery, commitment
and expertise."
Rob was born April 23, 1976, in St. Charles. He was preceded in death by a
half-brother, Stephen Hobkirk, and a grandfather, Robert Hobbs, who for
many years worked in Ozark County for Continental Telephone.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Hobbs, who will be returning from Germany
to reside in California; a half-sister, Rebekah Hobkirk of St. Charles; a
brother, Joseph Hobbs, of Wentzville; grandparents Nelda Skeele of St.
Peters; Darrell and Linda Gregory of Newton, Kansas; and Bonnell Hobbs of
West Plains; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of
friends.

Mrs. Curtis died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005. She was born Sept. 2, 1931, in
Wood River, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Helen Dial. She married Donald
E. Curtis Oct. 7, 1950, in Cottage Hills, Ill.
She and Mr. Curtis moved to Riverside, Calif., in 1966, where they resided
until they retired and returned to Missouri in 1997, living in Gainesville
She attended the Mammoth Assembly of God, where she played the piano and
organ for several years.
Mrs. Curtis is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon R. and Ron
E. Hollingsworth of Lee’s Summit; one granddaughter, Cynthia L. Johnson of
Cottonwood, Calif.; one brother, Elmer Dial and his wife, Shirley, of Lake
Havasu City, Ariz.; and two sisters, Ruth Staib of Highland Park, Ill.,
and Shirley B. Ringering of Bethalto, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her great-grandson,

Funeral services for Jerry Donald (Donnie) Evans, 51, of Mountain Grove,
were held Tuesday, May 2 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Chapel in Ava.
Mr. Evans died April 29, 2006, at his son Levi’s home near Gentryville. He
was born June 29, 1954, in Gainesville, the son of Orville and Norma
(Hathcock) Evans. He and Patricia Dianne Lee were married June 12, 1976,
in Gentryville. They later divorced.
He was a graduate of Gainesville High School. He was an auto mechanic and
loved to fish and hunt, running coyote dogs and beagles, often entering
field trials with both breeds.
His favorite things to do were playing with his grandchildren and playing
and listening to bluegrass music.
Mr. Evans is survived by one son, Levi Evans and his wife, Venice, of
Gentryville; one daughter, Crystal Evans of Bakersfield; four
grandchildren, Adline Evans, Whitney Evans, Hunter Evans and Bently Adam
Moody; five brothers, David Evans and his wife, Delores, of Mountain
Grove, Bob Evans and his wife, Wanda, and Larry Evans and his wife,
Rhonda, of Mountain Home, Ark., Jim Evans and his wife, Regina, of Ava and
Junior Evans of Tecumseh; three sisters, Linda McCrea and her husband,
Junior, of Houston, Annie Sloan and Fern Robertson and her husband,

Funeral services for Charles Clinton Haskins, 81, of Brixey, were held
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville

Mr. Haskins died Sept. 17, 2006, in Springfield. He was born Aug. 15,
1925, in Isabella, the son of Walter and Socia (Gaulding) Haskins. He and
Juanita Smith were married Dec. 26, 1946, in Mountain Home, Ark.
He was a life long resident of Ozark County and a veteran, having served
in the United States Navy during World War II as a Carpenter’s Mate Second
Class. After returning home and marrying, he went into the electrical,
plumbing and heating and air conditioning business. He also built several
resorts in Ozark County, including Rockbridge Trout Ranch.
He also enjoyed working with cattle on his farm, but he especially enjoyed
spending time with his family.
Mr. Haskins is survived by his wife, Juanita; one son, David Haskins of
Brixey; six grandchildren, Janeen Scott, Anne Marie Drew, Jeremy Haskins,
Ashley Haskins, Katie Peterson and Charley Haskins; eight
great-grandchildren, Carrington, Kendrick, Brendon, Sydney, Makayla,
Kadden, Nathan and Gracie; one sister, Ella Mae Delp; and one brother,
Ronnie Haskins.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Haskins; his parents; and two
sisters, Vada Dauchy and Polly Willbanks.

Mr. Reich died Sept. 12, 2006. He was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Lutie, the
son of Rev. Burton Nell and Dovie (Haskins) Reich. He and Charlotte
Henderson were married Nov. 6, 1958, in Lenexa, Kan.
He had been a resident of the Ava area since May 2006, moving from
Kirbyville. He was employed with Taney County Road and Bridge for 10
years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and going to bluegrass festivals.
Mr. Reich is survived by his wife, Charlotte Henderson; two sons, Keith
Vaughn Reich of Ava and Kevin Vance Reich and wife, Cindy, of Branson;
four grandchildren, Jessica Maggard of Coos Bay, Ore., Grant Reich of
Coquille, Ore., and Hannah Reich and Keaton Reich, both of Branson; one
sister, Donna Duggins of West Plains; and many relatives and friends.

Mrs. Hampton died Sept. 16, 2006, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in
Mountain Home, Ark. She was born March 30, 1911, in Ozark County, the
daughter of George and Alta (Blackwell) Coulter. She and Isaac Hampton
were married May 13, 1928, in Lutie.
She was a life long resident of Ozark County. She was a member of the
Church of Christ. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. She
especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Hampton is survived by her children, Almeda Wyman of Kissee Mills,
Imogene Grisham and Carma Frazier, both of Gainesville, E.J. Hampton and
Thomas Hampton, both of Wasola, Troy Hampton of Wichita, Kan., and Bobby
Hampton of Seneca; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 17
great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ethel Herd of Long Beach,
Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac, Sept. 3, 1973; her
parents; one daughter, Betty Lou Hampton; two brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services for Jack Herbert Kyle, 78, of Springfield, will be at 11
a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Christ Church Unity. Graveside services
will be at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery.
Mr. Kyle died Sept. 17, 2006, in Cox Hospital in Springfield, following a
long illness. He was born March 20, 1928, in Nottinghill, the son of
Glennie and Beulah (Hargis) Kyle. He and Mary Etta Minkler were married
Nov. 22, 1951.
He attended Ava High School before joining the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.
He served four years in the Navy, the last two of which were on a hospital
ship.
Besides spending time with his family, Mr. Kyle enjoyed fishing, hunting,
boating, woodworking and private aircraft.
For 45 years he served in the life insurance business, the last 20 years
with sons Kent and Rick, and office manager Rhonda Baker. His business
accomplishments include: first Franklin Life Agency, under manager Guy
Cowden; professional designation of chartered life underwriter; lifetime
member of Million Dollar Round Table; past President of the Springfield
Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors; Greene County Estate
Planning Council; and Springfield Chapter Society of Financial Service
Professionals. In the past he had also served as a board member of his
church, Christ Church Unity and a member of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine.
Mr. Kyle is survived by his wife, Mary Etta; two sons, Rick Kyle and his
wife, Michal, Kent Kyle and his wife, Jerri Lynn, all of Springfield; one
daughter, Julie Simonson and her husband, Tim, of Springfield; and six
grandchildren, Mary Joe, Joshua, Mackenzie, Colton, Adam and Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
