Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Saturday, June 29, 1996
Beulah E. Breazile Graham, 83, Eldon, died Thursday at Lake of the
Ozarks General Hospital (Osage Beach). She was born Oct. 18, 1912, in
Atchison County, a daughter of William T. and Mattie Jane Ridgeway
Breazile. She was married March 10, 1935, in Eldon to John D. Graham,
who survives of the home. A homemaker, she was a member of Etterville
Christian Church. She moved to Eldon in 1929, and lived in that area
most of the rest of her life.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Matthews, Springfield,
and Doris Neth, St. Joseph; two sisters, Eula Phillips and Helen Clark,
both of Panorama City, Calif.; two grandsons and three
great-grandchildren.
Service3s will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
Borys Boyuk, minister, and Bro. Bob Jones will officiate. Burial will
be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Kent J. Crane, 89, Brumley, died Thursday at his home. He was born Oct.
8, 1906, in Ulman, a son of William C. and Estella Markle Crane. He was
married Sept. 14, 1940, in Waynesville, to Lucille Thornsberry, who
survives at the home. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of
Riverview Baptist Church, Osage Beach.
Other survivors include: one son, William C. Crane, Kansas City; two
daughters, Marilyn Umstead, Powell, Tenn., and Carolyn Lasey, Denver,
N.C.; one sister, Vera Adkins, Rayville; seven grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Riverview Baptist Church. The Rev.
Michael Parris will officiate. Burial will be in Gott Cemetery, Ulman.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage

Jim Richardson, 65, Brumley, died Wednesday at his home. He was born
Dec. 14, 1930, in Ulman, a son of Otis and Lilly Colvin Richardson. He
was married July 27, 1957, to Beverly Steinhauser, who died Jan. 17,
1994.
He was postmaster of the Osage Beach post office for several years,
retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Kaiser Veterans of Foreign
Wars and the Osage Beach Lions Club.
Survivors include: one daughter, Stephanie Jackson, San Antonio, Texas;
one son, Les Richardson, Richland; three brothers, Louis Richardson,
Eldon, Jack Richardson, Richland, and Lee Richardson, Brumley; and three
grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
The Rev. Jim McGowin will officiate. The remains were cremated.

Floyd Don Vaughan, 59, Smithfield, N.C., died Sunday. He was born Sept
15, 1936, in Miller County, a son of Floyd and Nora Brown Vaughan. He
was married March 8, 1962, in Las Vegas, to Dorothy Taraszkiewicz, who
survives at the home.
A Navy veteran, he was a pressman and attended Family Worship Center in
Smithfield.
Other survivors include: two sons, Greg Vaughan and Jeff Vaughan, both
of Smithfield; two brothers, Byron P. Vaughan, La Habra, Calif. and John
Vaughan, Diamond Bar, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services were at 2 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Burial
was in Tuscumbia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American

Goldia Olive Wall, 75, Iberia, died Sunday at her home. She was born
Aug 19, 1920, in Hattie, a daughter of George and Flora Tabor Brooks.
She was married June 27, 1942, in St. Charles, to Kenneth Dorn Wall, who
died Dec. 30, 1978.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church and
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6167 Ladies Auxiliary, both in Iberia.
Survivors include: three daughters, Diane Cooper, Brumley, Kathryn
Shelton, Iberia, and Faye Tucker, Mexico; two brothers, Claude Brooks,
Mountain View and Othel Brooks, Rich Hill; three sisters, Elizabeth
Wilbanks and Sylvia Vickers, both of Mountain View, and Irene Woolsey,
Penrose, Colo.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mabel Musick, 76, Eldon, died Friday at St. Marys Health Center. She
was born March 6, 1920, in Little Tulsa, Oklahoma, a daughter of Joseph
C. and Ethel Maude Pierce Musick. She was a homemaker and a member of
First Christian Church, Richland.
Survivors include: one daughter, Glotha Mae Franken, Eldon; one son,
David Musick, Waynesville; one brother, Shorty Musick, Eldon; three
sisters, Billie Shelton and Helen Morrison, both of Crocker, and Mary
Witt, Eldon; and three grandchildren.

Dorothy Lee Musick Eads, 72, Eldon, died Saturday at University of
Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. She was born Aug 6, 1923, in
Brumley, a daughter of Oliver F. and Daisy Leona Phillips Musick. She
was married June 25, 1950, to Kenneth Willard Eads, who died Feb. 11,
1969. A resident of Miller County for most of her life, she was a
homemaker.
Survivors include: three sons, Kenneth Eads Jr., Osage Beach, Fred
Eads, Columbia, and Michael Eads, Eldon; three daughters, Barbara
Porter, Eldon, Rebecca Ehler, Columbia, and Jerry Sue King, Wheatland,
Wyo.; one brother, Robert Musick, Ava; four sisters, Lorraine Schorer,
New Bloomfield, Georgia Dearixon, Jamestown, Anna Lampe, Holts Summit,
and Lillie Whitaker, Salem; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Virgie R. Setser, 60, Eldon, died Wednesday at Villa Marie Skilled
Nursing Facility. She was born Nov. 22, 1935, in Miller County, a
daughter of Willie S. and Nora Bell Lawson Lee. She was married Feb.
20, 1954, in Granite City, Ill., to Chester W. Setser, who survives at
the home.
She was employed as a secretary by Belleville Mutual Insurance Co.,
Belleville, Ill., for more than 20 years until her retirement in 1994 as
secretary manager. A resident of Eldon since 1994, she was a member of
the Order of the Eastern Star and Winstanley Baptist Church, Fairview
Heights, Ill.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Yvonne Vitosky, Urbana, Ill.; one
son, Greg Setser, Webb City; two brothers, Garvin Lee, Iberia, and Ellis
Lee, Overland; three sisters, Bonnie McClure and Ruby Patterson, both of
O’Fallon, Ill., and Esther Machon, Russellville; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Doris D. Milburn, 68, Eldon, died Monday at St. Marys Health Center.
She as born Dec. 8, 1927, in Etterville, a daughter of Cecil H. and
Ethel Mae Cunningham Deffenbaugh. She was married July 26, 1945, in
Kansas City, Kan., to Howard E. “Gene” Milburn, who survives at the
home.
She was employed by the War Labor Board, International Sole Leather and
International Shoe Factory. She was secretary to the Eldon R-I Board of
Education for 32 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of First
Baptist Church, Eldon, where she was a Sunday school teacher and
assistant Sunday school department director.
She was a lifelong member of the National Association of Educational
Office Personnel, and the Missouri Association of Educational Office
Personnel, where she served in elected offices, including president in
1985.
Other survivors include: two sons, Howard Milburn and David Milburn,
both of Jefferson City; two sisters, Dale Clotworthy, Bella Vista, Ark.,
and Betty Jacobs, Jefferson City; three grandchildren, three
step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Eldon. The

Leota Faye King, 77, Brumley, died Sunday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital. She was born March 29, 1919, in Brumley, a daughter of Oliver
and Ada Duncan Plemmons. She was married Oct. 16, 1938, in Miami,
Okla., to Marion B. King Jr., who died July 17, 1985.
She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Brumley. She was a member
of the Mt. Union Church of Christ, Brumley.
Survivors include: two sons, Randy King, Moberly, and Ronnie King,
Brumley; two daughters, Bernda McDaniel and Linda Kaiser, both of
Brumley; two brothers, Farris Plemmons, Brumley, and Leslie Plemmons,
Iberia; four sisters, Darlene Singleton, Crocker, Kate Snelling,
Richland, Freda Wright, Iberia, and Shirley Baker, Sibley; 16
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one son, Roger King.

Eugene L. “Gene” Andres Sr., 82, Marys Home, died Tuesday at Lincoln
Nursing Center. He was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Marys Home, a son of
Joseph and Mary Schulte Andres. He was married May 27, 1941, in Marys
Home, to Fredonna J. Tellman, who died Jan 11, 1992.
A farmer, he worked for Chesebrough-Ponds. He lived in the Marys Home
community most of his life. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows
Catholic Church; and of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 3267,
at Marys Home.
Survivors include: three sons, Eugene L. Andres Jr., Palatine, Ill.;
Gerald C. Andres, Jefferson City, and Richard J. Andres, Holts Summit;
three daughters, Betty J. Kliethermes and Janet M. Lepper, both of Marys
Home, and Diane Spieker, Jefferson City; one brother, Alfred Andres,
Brazito; one sister, Sophia Schweiss, St. Louis; 16 grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.

Pearl A. Dean, 89, Pevely, died Thursday at Westview Retirement Center,
Herculaneum. She was born July 19, 1906, in Brumley, a daughter of
Frank and Martha Jane Brown White. She was married April 14, 1928, in
California to Earnest V. Dean, who died May 3, 1976.
She was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, where she taught Bible
school and Sunday school for 40 years. She lived most of her life near
Eldon, moving to Pevely in 1994. She was a longtime member of the
Farmers Wives Club.
Survivors include: one son, Leroy Dean Pevely; one sister, Alta Smith,
California; two grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and two
step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home. The Rev.

Willard H. Schulte, 82, Eugene, died Tuesday at Capital Region Medical
Center-Southwest. HE was born July 1, 1913, in Miller County, a son of
August and Lena Kurtz Schulte. He was married April 28, 1936, in Marys
Home, to Dorsie L. Schulte, who survives of the home.
He worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue for 13 years prior to
his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic
Church, Marys Home.
Other survivors include: one son, Darrell L. Schulte, Jefferson City;
one brother, Carl Schulte, Happy, Texas; two sisters, Mildred Boessen,

Bert Cantwell, 78, Eldon, died Wednesday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital, Osage Beach. He was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Camden County, a
son of Shelva and Zona Vaughan Cantwell.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars. He worked as a driver with Dunstan and Yows for many
years. He worked as a custodian at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital,
Columbia, prior to his retirement.
Survivors include: two brothers, Burleigh Cantwell, Eldon, and Brandt
Cantwell, Kansas City; and one sister, Beulah Apperson, Eldon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The body will be cremated. Private interment of the cremains will be at
a later date. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today. Memorials are

Arthur Lovell, 87, Eldon, died Monday at his home. He was born July 2,
1908, in St. Louis, a son of Arthur and Maude Hesselmier Lovell. He as
married Dec. 10, 1931, in St. Louis, to Goldie Mabel Shackleford Bond,
who died Jan. 21, 1980. A retired dock loader, he was a member of the
Teamsters Union in St. Louis.
Survivors include four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four
step-great-grandchildren, and four step-great-great-grandchildren. A
son, Paul Veron Lovell, preceded him in death, June 1, 1993.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

Miller County Autogram January 30, 1890
Wm. Stepp, living north of town on the Saline Creek, died of a complicatio of
diseases on Thursday morning of last week after an illness of several weeks. He
was buried at the Russell Graveyard on the day following. He leaves a wife and
several children not very well provided for.

David Preston Taylor died at Versailles and was buried Saturday at the Taylor
graveyard west of town. He was something over 98 years old. HE was a soldier of
the war of 1812 for which he received a pension.

Arthur “Ed” Buechter, 63, St. Anthony, died Monday at his home. He was
born Nov. 2, 1932, in St. Anthony, a son of William and Lucy Otto
Buechter. He was married Oct. 26, 1957, in Meta, to Dorothy
Lueckenotto, who survives of the home. A farmer, he was a member of St.
Anthony Catholic Church.

Vernice I. Sebest, 77 Eldon, died Wednesday at Capital Region Medical
Center-Southwest. She was born April 6, 1919, in Iberia, a daughter of
George L. and Emma Alice Roberson Eads. She was married July 18, 1987,
in Eldon, to Arthur G. Sebest, who survives of the home.
She worked as a waitress and was a life member of the Eldon Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 2442 ladies auxiliary.
She also is survived by five grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. One son, Dewayne Dake, preceded her in death.

Paul T. Martin, 58, Eldon, died Monday at Columbia Regional Skilled
Nursing Facility, Columbia. He was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Miller County,
a son of William M. and Bessie J. Upton Martin. He was married Aug 7,
1960, near Eldon, to Rebecca Boan, who survives of the home.
He worked for Southwestern Bell for 29 years before retiring. An Army
veteran, he was a member of the Aurora Springs Baptist Church near
Eldon, where he was a deacon.

daughters, Elaine R. Martin, Kansas City, Laura G. Martin, Jefferson

Care Center. She was born Jan 3, 1921, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of
Eddie and Clara Bilyeu Wickham. She was married July 13, 1945, in
Granite City, Ill., to Edwin L. Keilbach, who died April 25, 1990. A
homemaker, she was a member of Humphrey’s Creek Christian Church near
Capps.
Survivors include: two sons, Eddie Dean Keilbach, Tuscumbia, and
Tennyson Wickham, Granite City; one brother, Curtis Wickham, Granite

Freda Earnestine Dinwiddie, 67, Olean, died Saturday at Osage Beach
Healthcare Center. She was born Sept 7, 1928, in Tuscumbia, a daughter
of Henry and Blanche Moneymaker Keeth.
A lifelong resident of Miller County, she had been employed as a machine
operator for Chesebrough-Pond’s in Jefferson City. She was ill for the
last seven years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Freda Green, Tuscumbia, and Donna
Alexander, Olean; two sons, Wayne Porter and Keith Dinwiddie, both of
Eldon; two sisters, Ailene Bishop, Olean and Esther Dinwiddie Eldon; two
brothers, Cecil Keeth, Kansas City and Verlon Keeth, Lincoln; five
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Griswold-Kays Funeral Home,

Opal Hilary Twitchel, 79, California, died Monday at Bristol Manor,
California. She was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Miller County, a daughter
of Columbus and Elsie Belle Russell Brown. She was married Sept. 20,
1932, to A. R. Twitchel, who died April 24, 1974.
She worked as a seamstress at California Manufacturing Co. until her
retirement. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, California.
Survivors include: two sons, Les Twitchel, Russellville, and Rex
Twitchel, Overland Park, Kan.; six daughters, Kitty Crow, Belton, Sue
Elmore, Clinton, Miss., Jane Jarrett, Montreal, Barbara Bond, Jefferson
City, Juanita Brown, California, and Rozi Wood, Eagle, Colo.; two
sisters, Grace Retherford, Sedalia, and Lynn Beck, state of Georgia; 20
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren. One infant son, Norris Edward Twitchel,
preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Main Street Baptist Church. The

Harry Paul Patterson, 94, Iberia, died Sunday at Capital Region Medical
Center-Madison. He was born April 15, 1902, in Miller County, a son of
George W. and Mary Kerschner Patterson. He was married Dec. 30, 1923,
in Iberia, to Goldie Cross, who died Oct. 2, 1985. He was married Dec.
13, 1992, in Iberia, to Wilma Allee who survives at the home.
He was a farmer. He was a charter member of First Assembly of God
Church, Iberia, where he served as a deacon and secretary/treasurer for
50 years.
Other survivors include: four sons, Floyd Patterson, Lake Lotawana,
Paul Patterson, Iberia, and James Patterson and Sam Patterson, both of
Lee’s Summit; two daughters, Hazel Catron, Springfield, and Barbara
Moss, Iberia; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. One daughter, Anna Mae Stricklan, preceded him
in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church,
Iberia. The Rev. Nelson Sachs and the Rev. Doug Wheeler will officiate.

Helen Mary Kliethermes, 94, St. Elizabeth, died Monday at St. Elizabeth
Care Center. She was born March 3, 1902, in Loose Creek, a daughter of
Gerhard and Theresa Sandbothe Jaegers. She was married Nov. 25, 1924,
in Loose Creek, to Henry Kliethermes, who died Sept 14, 1965.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth, and St.
Ann’s Sodality. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two sons, Harry Kliethermes, Wardsville, and David
Kliethermes, St. Elizabeth; one daughter, Jane Kliethermes, St.
Elizabeth; one brother, Herbert Jaegers, Jefferson City; two sisters,
Frances Pirner, Jefferson City, and Sabina Kliethermes, St. Ann; four
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One son, Alexander
Kliethermes, died June 1, 1990.

Benny V. Hodge, 65, Barnett, died Saturday at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Eugene, a son of Ben and Carrie Hinds
Hodge. He was married to Sandra Luschen, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Miller County, he was employed as an iron worker
for Rich-Con until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War and was a prisoner of war. He received the Bronze Star, the
Silver Star and Purple Heart with clusters. He was a member of Old Time
Gospel Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2442, both in Eldon.
Other survivors include: one son, Mitchell Hodge, Jefferson City; two
brothers, Truman Hodge and Tommy Hodge, both of Eldon; seven sisters,
Jean Koons, Blue Springs, Myrtle Eth and Ruth Lathrom, both of Warsaw,
Mary Lou Lankford, Independence and Katherine Novogradac, Gloria Jeter
and Linda Vaughan, all of Eldon; and one grandchild.

John “Dean” McKee, 66, St. Anthony, died Thursday. He was born May 6,
1930, in Granite City, Ill., a son of John and Della Baugh McKee. He
was married Oct. 3, 1953, in Granite City, to Wande Lee Dake, who
survives at the home. A U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War, he
retired from Granite City Steel in 1979 and moved to Iberia.

Jefferson City; two daughters, Sharon Pendleton, Meta, and Michelle
Luttrell, Iberia; one brother, Terry McKee, Jefferson City; three

Barbara Lambert, who survives at the home.
He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Eldon and the Olean area. He

to Henry S. Wallendorf Sr., who died in 1941.
She attended Eldon schools and St. Louis University, and sold real
estate in Hollywood, Calif. She then owned and operated Wallendorf Real
Estate Co. until her retirement. She was a member of the Baptist
Church, the Gold Star Wives of America and the Veteran Wives of America.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was employed by the U.S.

died Jan. 9, 1985.
She was a homemaker and taught school until she retired. A resident of
Eldon since 1946, she was a member of First Christian Church, Eldon, and
taught Sunday school for 48 years. She was a member of the Christian
Women’s Fellowship of the church, and the Miller County Retired Teachers
Association.

Garland V. Platter, 74, Lake Ozark, died Tuesday at University of
Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. He was born March 14, 1922, in
Eldon, a son of Herbert and Pearlie Bunch Platter. He was married March
29, 1941, in Eldon, to Alta L. Cotton, who survives at the home.
A 1940 graduate of School of the Osage, he was an Army veteran of World
War II and received three bronze stars. He worked for Union Electric
from 1947 until his retirement in 1986 as an operations supervisor. He
was a 15-year member of the School of the Osage Board of Education,
serving one term as president.
He was an ordained deacon at Bagnell Baptist Church, where he served as
a song leader and Sunday school teacher. He was a committeeman on the
Miller County Central Republican Committee, and co-owned and co-operated
the Red Lantern Gift Shop in Lake Ozark.
Other survivors include: two sons, Howard Platter and David Platter,
both of Lake Ozark; two daughters, Mary Platter-Dickerson, Camdenton,
and Donna Platter-Brack, Cincinnati, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one infant son, Francis Wayne Platter, and one
infant daughter, Marilyn Sue Platter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bagnell Baptist Church. The Rev.
Charles Pratt and the Rev. Cellis Crum will officiate. Burial with
military honors will be in Riley Lamm Cemetery in Eldon. Memorials are

death.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, she attended school in

in Eldon, to Curtis G. Weeks, who died Feb. 17, 1970.
A lifelong resident of the Eldon community, she was a graduate of Eldon
High School and William Woods College in Fulton. She was a homemaker
and a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Eldon,
where she taught Sunday school for 70 years. She also was a member of
Chapter C.H., P.E.O. (past president); Euterpean Club; and Mid-Missouri
China Painters. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star and
the Parent Teachers Association.
Survivors include: one son, Dr. G. R. Weeks, Cape Girardeau; one
daughter, Margaret Rose Foote, Lebanon; nine grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Center-Southwest. He was born Oct. 16, 1918, at Tuscumbia, the son of

Valparaiso, Ind., to Mary Lee Johnston, who survives at the home.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the
Christian Church, was active in the Tuscumbia Fire Department, and
served on the board of trustees of the Village of Tuscumbia. He was a
longtime employee and machinist at Osage Products.

Floyd R. “Whitey” Whittle, 94, Versailles, died Sunday at Good Shepherd
Nursing Home, Versailles. He was born Dec. 16, 1901, in Iberia, a son
of Thomas and Carrie Woolrey Whittle. He was married Aug 1, 1925, in
Kansas City, to Grace A. Holmberg, who died Dec. 9, 1994.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War I, he was a sheet metal worker in
defense plants during World War II. He received a citation for working
on the atomic bomb. He played semi-pro baseball in the Texas-Oklahoma
League. In 1952 he became a dealer and pit boss in Las Vegas, where he
operated the first Las Vegas dealers’ school. After his retirement in
1968, he returned to Versailles, where he was a member of Rolling Hills
Country Club and First Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Thomas D. Whittle, Las Vegas; three
daughters, Loretta Foxgrover, Chicago, Wilma Jean Towne, Carson City,
Nev., and Dorothy W. Lane, Reno, Nev.; 21 grandchildren and 26
great-grandchildren. One daughter, Doris Lee Vitorino, preceded him in
death.

Omer M. Goode, 70, Eldon, died Tuesday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital, Osage Beach. HE was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Merna, Ill., a son
of Richard L. and Myrtie Pendleton Goode. He was married Jan. 13, 1946,
in Lexington, Ill., to Ingrid Bloomquist, who survives at the home.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a resident of Eldon since
1950. He was a radio announcer at KRMS during the 1960’s and 1970’s,
and assistant chief of police at the Lake Ozark Police Department until
his retirement in 1991. He was commander of the American Legion Cadet
Academy of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Eldon, American Legion Post
229, Eldon/Lake Ozark, Eldon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2442, and
Lake of the Ozarks Shrine Club. He was a past district eight commander
of the Missouri American Legion, a member of the Forty and Eight, and
the Bloomington, Ill., Masonic Lodge 43.

Goode, Eldon; one brother, Francis L. Goode, Bowie, Texas; two

schools, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He lived on the West Coast for a

A life-long Central Missouri resident, Mrs. Vieth attended schools in
Miller County. She was employed as a sales clerk with Young Fashions
for many years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, Circle 5 and 6 of the church, the Lutheran
Women’s Missionary League, the Auxiliary of Heisinger Lutheran Home, and

She owned and operated a general store near St. Elizabeth. She was a

Clarence A. Frank, 87, Eldon, died Wednesday at Eldon Healthcare Center.
He was born Feb. 28, 1908, in Etterville, a son of Edward and Anna
Thomas Frank. He was married Sept 5, 1933, in Marys Home, to Blondine
Schwaller, who survives at the home.
He drove a truck for Ivy Oil Company until his retirement in 1974. He
later farmed. He was a member of the Miller County Fox Hunters
Association and a former member of the Eagles Lodge. He was a member of
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eldon, and was a former board member of
the Moreau Fire Department.
Other survivors include: one son, David Frank, Eldon; one daughter,
Cathy Larabee, Claremore, Okla.; four sisters, Lillian Miller, Wichita,
Kan., Cleo Peace, Tulsa, Okla., Gertrude Leuthen, Eldon, and Myrtle
Curty, Eugene; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. One
son, James Edward Frank preceded him in death.

Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. She was born Aug 22, 1901, in
Tuscumbia, a daughter of John E. and Hattie Maylee Kallenbach. She was
married June 3, 1931, in Atchison, Kan., to Asa M. Mayfield, who died
Dec. 13, 1987.
A graduate of Tuscumbia High School and the University of
Missouri-Columbia, she as a teacher at Tuscumbia Elementary School and
the El Reno, Okla., public school system until her retirement. She also
farmed near Tuscumbia.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Eldon, and the church’s
Christian Women’s Fellowship Group. She was a member of the Missouri
Retired Teacher’s Association and the American Association of University
Women. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The

Center. She was born Jan. 1, 1907, in St. Elizabeth, a daughter of
Henry Kirkweg and Catherine Mermann. She was married Nov. 24, 1925, in
St. Elizabeth to Conrad A. Evers, who died on April 3, 1985.
A homemaker, she was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church
and the Ladies Altar Sodality. She lived most of her life in Marys Home.
Survivors include: four sons, Ilde Evers and Fred Evers, both of
Henley, Bernard Evers, Eldon, and Sylvester Evers, Eugene; two
daughters, Martina Goeller, St. Anthony, and Anna Marie Braun, Osage
Bend; 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Max Snodgrass, 71, Jefferson City, died today at St. Marys Health
Center. He was born Jan 25, 1925, in Olean, a son of Minton and Mary
Atkinson Snodgrass. He was married Feb. 20, 1988, in Jefferson City, to
Dana Schumaker, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Eldon public schools and a U.S. Navy veteran of
World War II. A resident of Jefferson City since 1975, he was employed
by Woodman Engineering and worked as a maintenance engineer at the
Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel until his retirement. He was a member of the
American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5, and Parents Without Partners.

1946, at Sedan, Kan., to John A. Shalbot, who died June 16, 1980.
She worked several years as a cook for the Iberia Friendship Hall. She
also worked in the cafeteria of the Iberia School District and in the
food service at the Tan-Tar-A resort in Osage Beach. She was a member
of the Honey Springs Baptist Church near Iberia.

Backes, who survives at the home.
A lifelong farmer in the Marys Home area, he was a bus driver and
transportation supervisor for the Cole R-V School District, Eugene. He
was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Marys Home,
and the Holy Name Society. He was a past member of the Marys Home
Knights of Columbus and the Miller County Fox Hunters Association.

died Feb. 5, 1926. On April 24, 1929, he married Flossie Alice Nott,

Services were held today for Johnnie Stark, 68, Olean, who died
Wednesday at Capital Region Medical Center-Southwest. The Rev. Gene
Edwards officiated at services at Griswold-Kays Funeral Home, Eldon.
Burial was in the Stark Cemetery.
He was born July 17, 1927, in Tuscumbia, a son of Jess and Emma Cross
Stark. He was married to Zelphia Helton, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Miller County, he was a laborer. He was employed
by Holiday Inn, Lake Ozark, for 10 years until his retirement in 1993.
Other survivors include: one son, Dennis Stark, Eugene; three stepsons,
Doug Belk, Crocker, Ronnie Belk, Olean, and Donald Gene Belk, Iberia;
one daughter, Geraldine Patterson, Tuscumbia; two stepdaughters, Virgie
Lane, Crocker, and Darlene Crismon, St. Charles; two brothers, Raymond
Stark, Ulman, and Hadley Stark, El Dorado Springs; four sisters, Tracey
Starling, Detroit, Myrtle Wilson, Tuscumbia, Maude Wall, Iberia, and
Bertha Casey, Valley Park; six grandchildren and 10 step grandchildren.

Roy C. Hoskins, 66, Barnett, died Monday at Capital Region Medical
center-Southwest. He was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Miller County, a son of
John C. and Ethel Margaret Foote Hoskins. He was married Aug 14, 1953,
in Lake Ozark, to Mary E. Plemmons, who survives at the home.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a lifelong resident of
Miller and Morgan counties. He was a farmer until his retirement. He
was a member of Barnett Baptist Church, and a charter member of the
Barnett Lions Club.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Roberta K. Hoskins-Hibdon and
Margaret A. Roepe, both of Barnett; one brother, Paul Howard Hoskins,
St. Louis; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Randall Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City
Cemetery, Eldon. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m.

John Haskue Kaiser, 63, Eldon, died Friday at his home. He was born
Dec. 16, 1932, at Eldon, a son of Orville and Maybell Harrison Kaiser.
He was married to Mary Lou Wallace, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Eldon, Mr. Kaiser was employed as a laborer with
Osage Products in Eldon, and previously with the Eldon Special Road
District and International Shoe.
Other survivors include: one son, Stanley Kaiser, California; two
sisters, Bonnie Stickney and Catherine Hutchison, both of Eldon; and two
grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Big Rock Cemetery,

Roy H. McDaniel, 81, Eldon, died Thursday at Casa Grande, Ariz. He was
born July 16, 1914, at Argyle, a son of Frank J. and Hester Breeden
McDaniel. He was married June 28, 1940, at Eldon to Margaret Moore, who
survives at the home.
Mr. McDaniel was employed as a conductor with the Rock Island Railroad
for many years before retiring. He also owned and operated McDaniel
Cleaning and Supply in Eldon for a number of years. He was a member of
the First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, all in
Eldon, and the Eldon Country Club.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Janelle O’Dell, Casa Grande,
Ariz., and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church, Eldon.
The Rev. David Grousnick will officiate. Burial will be in the Eldon

Milo M. Burris Jr., 49, Eldon, died Sunday at University of
Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. He was born June 13, 1946, in
Eldon, a son of Milo M. Sr. and Betty Strahm Burris. His father and
stepmother, Milo and Faye Burris, survive in Brumley.
A lifelong resident of Eldon, he owned Eldon Drywall Co. He was a
member of Eldon IOOF, Barnett Masonic Lodge 591, and was district deputy
grand master of District 58. He was a member of Lake Ozark Shrine Club
and Abou Ben Adhem Temple of SCFD.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Charles Burris, Lake Ozark, and
Dennis Burris, Eldon; and one sister, Judy Burris White, Lake Ozark.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Griswold Kays Funeral Home,
Eldon. The Rev. Curtis Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in
Tuscumbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a

Death Notice: Miller County Autogram Sentinel, April 16, 1940
Dr. Preston Thompson, age 55, prominent Lebanon surgeon and physician,
was instantly killed at 7:30 o’clock Sunday morning in an automobile
accident six miles south of Iberia. It is reported the car came to rest
right side up with Mr. Thompson still in the machine.
Charley Shelton and son were aroused by the crash and hurried to the
scene where they found Dr. Thompson dead from a broken neck.
Dr. Thompson was on his way to Iberia after Dr. G. W. Duncan, whom he planned to
take to Mayo Brothers, Rochester, Minn., for treatment. Although the car was
virtually demolished, with the rims of all four wheels twisted and bent, it is said
that not a tire was punctured.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lev Thompson of Brumley, he was born at Brumley
and spent his entire life there. Dr. Thompson was graduated from Iberia
Academy and medical college. He served as a surgeon overseas during the
World War.

Ruth Mae Vann, 87, Eldon, died Tuesday at Good Shepherd Nursing Home,
Versailles. She was born May 8, 1908, in Enon, the daughter of Grant C.
and Leona Nail Reynolds. She was married Aug. 14, 1937, in Versailles
to George H. “Budd” Vann, who died Oct. 15, 1953.
An Eldon resident since 1955, she had been a member of First Baptist
Church, Eldon since 1950. She taught in rural schools for nine years.
She also worked as a packer at International Shoe Company, Eldon, and at
Interco, before retiring in 1976.
Survivors include: one son, Donald R. Vann, Wakefield, Kan.; two
brothers, Charles Reynolds, Barnett, and Reu Reynolds, Eldon; three
sisters, Ethel Parkes, Loveland, Colo., Marie Moran, Kansas city, and
Wanda Meng, Fort Morgan, Colo.; four grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. The Rev.
Randall Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home,

Anna G. Bax, 87, Marys Home, died Sunday, at Jefferson City Manor. She
was born Dec. 24, 1908, in Marys Home, a daughter of Henry and Sophie
Lepper Kempker. She was married May 22, 1928, in Marys Home to Andrew
J. Bax, who died Nov. 9, 1966.
A homemaker, she was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church,
Marys Home. She was a member of Ladies Altar Socality of the church and
the Marys Home Senior Citizens Group.
Survivors include: one son, Elmer Bax, Jefferson City; two daughters,
Geneva Mormann, Marys Home, and Lucille Mormann, Olean; three sisters,
Alma Loethen and Hlida Doerhoff, both of Marys Home, and Martha Schulte,
Henley; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic
Church. The Rev. William Korte will officiate. Burial will be in Our
Lady of the Snows Cemetery, Marys Home. Visitation will be from 2-8
p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Marys Home, with a senior citizens’
rosary at 3 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

at the Baptist Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness. Born
June 8, 1903 at Miller County, Mo., Mrs. Gibson had worked at a box
factory in Kansas City, MO., for 35 years before moving to Miami 13
years ago. She was a member of the Quapaw Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Hershel Shelton, rural Miami; one sister,
Mrs. Zola Magos, Tulsa, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be announced by the Cooper Funeral Home, Miami.
The family will meet at the home of Hershel Shelton two miles south and
one and one-fourth mile east of Shawnee Grocery.

Obituary: Tuscumbia Autogram, June 17, 1920 CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES
Richard Holtmeyer died at his home near St. Elizabeth on June 6, at the
age of 77 years, 1 month and 25 days. His death was caused by a stroke
of apoplexy. He had a stroke in 1915.
He joined the Union Army, volunteering at the age of 19. Uncle Dick, as
he was called by many, lived on a farm on the Big Tavern near St.
Elizabeth, since before his marriage until 1908 when he turned the farm
over to his sons and moved to town.

Mrs. Ora Hendricks passed away at her home in the Dog Creek community
April 15. She had been in ill health for about five weeks suffering
from Cerebral thrombosis.
Miss Oma Helton, daughter of David and Roberta Helton, was born October 10, 1887.
On Feb. 28, 1914 she was united in marriage to Ora Hendricks. To this union one
child was born, Vivian, now Mrs. Roy Bell of Kansas City, who, with the husband
survives. She is also survived by her aged father of near Brazito, three sisters
and four brothers as follows: Geo. W. Helton, Tuscumbia, Mrs. W. J. Topping of St.
Louis, Mrs. G. B. Pope Jr. of Fulton, Dewey Helton of Brazito, Mrs. Nina Abbet of
Brazito, Addison Helton of Tuscumbia and Otto Helton of Brazito.

Lallah Brooks Andrews, a former resident of Iberia, died Friday, Dec.
17, 1976, at Camdenton. She was 93. The daughter of Joseph and Leatha
Whittle, she was born at Iberia Nov. 23, 1883. May 3, 1905, she was
married to Franklin Verner Andrews, who died April 18, 1966.
About the age of 19 Mrs. Andrews was united with the Pleasant Hill
Church near Iberia. She was a lifelong resident of Miller and Camden
counties.
Surviving are three daughters, Lola McDonald, Richland, Gertrude
Atkisson, Kaiser, and Juanita Stone, Darien, Ga.; a sister, Sylvia
Alexander, Iberia; two brothers, Otto Whittle, Brumley, and John
Whittle, Crocker; and eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 16
great-great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Beatrice Keeth, died Sept 30, 1930, and Mrs. Andrews was
also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Georgia Wade
Chapel of Hedges Funeral Home in Camdenton. The Rev. George Cox
officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with nephews as
pallbearers.
