Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Monday, September 12, 1994
Mildred E. McMillin, 88, Eldon, died Saturday at Eldon Healthcare
Center. She was born April 13, 1906, a daughter of William C. and
Jennie Simmons Waterscheid. She was married Aug 12, 1933, to John H.
“Jack” Chalmers, who died Aug 3, 1963. She was married Dec 18, 1982, to
Howard R. McMillin, who died July 21, 1992.
She taught school for 38 years in Cole and Miller counties. She
attended Lincoln University and Central Missouri State University,
Warrensburg. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Eldon,
Eldon Senior Citizens, the National Association of Retired and Veteran
Railway Employees, the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Miller
County Retired Teachers Association and the Eldon Retired Teachers
Association.
Survivors include: one son, Harry H. Chalmers, Discovery Bay, Calif.;
five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son, James E.
Chalmers, died in 1981.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Clinton F. Wofford will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon
City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.

Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Monday September 19, 1994
Olive V. Carpenter, 62, Independence, died Sunday at Oakwood Manor,
Kansas City. She was born April 24, 1932, in Eldon, a daughter of
Claude C. and Clara M. Honiker Burris. Her mother survives in Eldon.
She was married Dec. 25, ,1953, in Harrison Ark., to Howard Carpenter,
who survives at the home.
She attended Osage High School and was a resident of the Eldon area
until she moved to Independence in 19153. She was a member of Aurora
Springs Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: one son, Kenneth Carpenter, Kansas City; three
brothers, James Burris, Donald Burris and Dewey Burris, all of Eldon;
seven sisters, Marsha Martin, Olean, Marla Burris, Eldon, Carolyn
Pollitt, Holts Summit, Connie Howser, Hazelwood, Mary Buster and Beverly
Buster, both of Pleasant Hill, and Betty Laughlin, Blue Springs.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Griswold-Kays Funeral Home, Eldon.
Joel Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial
Gardens, Barnett. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Lohman Robinett, 75, Henley, died Thursday at Capital Region Medical
Center—Still Campus (Jefferson City). He was born Feb 2, 1919, in
Henley, the son of Perry and Marcelle Luttrell Robinett. He was married
in Jefferson City in 1945 to Geneva Long, who survives at the home. A
lifetime resident of the Henley community, he farmed and drove a mail
truck.
Other survivors include: one son, Jerry Robinett, Jefferson City; one
daughter, Peggy Grefrath, Henley; four brothers, Glen Robinett, Iberia,
Paul Robinett and Donnie Robinett, both of Henley, and Gene Robinett,
Kansas City; four sisters, Irene Hager, Henley, Ruby Spalding, Eldon,
Ina Roark and Vernita Roark, both of Kansas City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Spring Valley Baptist Church,
Henley. The Rev. Robert D. Hoskins will officiate. Burial will be in
Hickory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at
Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Memorials are suggested to the
Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Tuesday, September 20, 1994
Cleet Wright, 74, Jefferson City, died Monday at Lincoln Nursing Center.
He was born March 29, 1920, in Brumley, a son of Isaac and Jane Hogue
Wright. He was married Dec. 8, 1941, in Jefferson City to Lillian
Lorraine Gray, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, he attended Jefferson City
public schools and served in the Army during World War II. He worked
for the Tweedie Footwear Factory until the plant closed. He then worked
as a painter for several Jefferson City painting contractors, including
the Clint Wright Painting and Decorating Company. In 1977, he became a
painter with Still Regional Medical Center, retiring in 1990. He was a
member of the First Church of God and of Painters Local 1185, Columbia.
Other survivors include: one son, Randy Wright, St. Louis; one
daughter, Sandra Hollaway, Jefferson City; one sister, Anna Belle
Simmons, Kansas City; one brother, William Wright, Kansas City; four
grandchildren and one great-grandson. One son, Ronald Wright, died Nov.
12, 1972.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Carl
Studebaker will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens
(Jefferson City). Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Margaret B. Carmine, 81, Iberia, died Thursday at Miller County Nursing
Home, Tuscumbia. She was born June 4, 1913, in Tuscumbia, the daughter
of W.A. and Fern Swanson Burd. She was married June 4, 1938, in
Tijuana, Mexico, to John M. Carmine, who died July 7, 1960.
She worked in real estate sales for more than 40 years. She lived in
Southern California before moving back to Central Missouri. She was a
member of Mt. Zion Christian Church, Tuscumbia. Survivors include one
daughter, Carol Smith, Crocker; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion
Cemetery, Tuscumbia. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Edith L. Vernon, 91, Eldon, died Tuesday at Memorial Community Hospital.
She was born June 19, 1903, in Eldon, the daughter of George and Annie
Googe Barnard. She was married Sept. 20, 1920, in Jefferson City, to
Carl W. Vernon, who died Feb 19, 1980.
She lived in Eldon and Aurora Springs area all her life. A published
author, she was an oil painter. She was a member of First Baptist
Church, Eldon, and a member of Miller Rebekah Lodge 324 for more than 40
years.
Survivors include: one son, C.D. Vernon, Eldon; one brother, Logan
Barnard, Eldon; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two
daughters, Madelene Barker and Nina Henley, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. The Rev.
Randall Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon,
with Rebekah services at 7:30 p.m. by Miller Rebekah Lodge 324.

Bobby Joe Joiner, 60, Tuscumbia, died Saturday at the Harry S. Truman
Veterans Hospital in Columbia. He was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Crocker.
He was married Dec. 23, 1963, in Oxnard, Calif., to Dorothy Ashby, who
survives at the home. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Rozanna Hyde-Rea and Rita
McDowell; one brother, Jerry Joiner; four granddaughters and two
great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Hope
Cemetery near Kaiser, with the Rev. Rick Hill officiating. Visitation
will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hedges Funeral Home in Osage Beach.

Kathryn B. “Kay” Wilson, 63, Eldon, died Tuesday at her home. She was
born July 4, 1929, in Rochester, N.Y., a daughter of Walter and Anne
Lobinski. She was married Sept. 11, 1948, in Webster, N.Y., to Charlie
Wilson who survives at the home.
She had lived in Eldon since 1976. She was a member of the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, Eldon, and was secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the
Eldon Fire Department.
Other survivors include: three sons, David Wilson and Douglas Wilson,
both of Eldon, and Donald Wilson, Webster, N.Y.; two daughters, Diane
Wilson and Dawn Wilson, both of Eldon; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Eldon. Fr. James O’Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon
City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips

Clara M. Sanning, 90, Jefferson City, died Wednesday at Oak View Living
Center, Jefferson City. She was born Sept. 18, 1902, in Miller County,
a daughter of Anton and Catherine Buechter Schwaller. She was married
Sept 26, 1922, in Marys Home to William Sanning who died Nov. 8, 1973.
She was a homemaker and had lived in the Eldon community from 1947-1982
when she moved to Jefferson City. She was a member of the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, Eldon, and the Altar Sodality.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Grossi, Waltham, Mass., and
Nadine Dellbringge, Jefferson City; four grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Eldon. Fr. James O’Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in
Greenmore Memorial Park, Barnett. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.

Hazel Estes, 86, Eldon, died Tuesday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital, Osage Beach. She was born June 2, 1906, in Purdy, a daughter
of J. and Carolyn Boucher Moore. She was married May 4, 1928, in
Monett, to Lester Estes, who survives at the home.
A homemaker, she lived in the Lake area for more than 40 years. She was
a member of Arrowhead Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution
and Lake Ozark Christian Church, where she was active in CWF.
Other survivors include: one son, William Estes, La Crosse, Wis.; one
daughter, Elizabeth Graham, Kaiser; one brother, John Moore, Monett;
five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Stanley Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore
Memorial Park, Barnett. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

William A. Schwaller, 76, Marys Home, died Monday at his home. He was
born April 27, 1917, in Marys Home, a son of Anton and Jennie Sanning
Schwaller. He was married July 25, 1939, to Alvina Jurgensmeyer, who
died Feb 10, 1983. He was married Oct. 1, 1983, in Eldon to Harriet
Downs, who survives at the home.
A farmer and lifelong resident of the Marys Home community, he was a
member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church and the Knights of
Columbus. He was president of St. Elizabeth Mutual Insurance Co., and
was a salesman for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. He served as an
alternate delegate at the 1976 Republican National Convention in Kansas
City and as an elector in the 1980 election of President Ronald Regan.
Other survivors include: two sons, Tom Schwaller, Huntsville, Ala., and
Robert Schwaller, Marys Home; three daughters, Mary Raymond, Mesa,
Ariz., Carol Sexton, Westerville, Ohio, and Jennie Cronkhite, Morehead,
Minn.; two sisters, Blondine Frank, Eldon and Ermine Jurgensmeyer,
Jefferson City; and 15 grandchildren. One son, Darrell Schwaller, died
Oct. 9, 1965.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic
Church. The Rev. John Schutty will officiate. Burial will be in the
church cemetery. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Phillips
Funeral Home, Marys Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials
are suggested to Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri or Our Lady

Obituary: Miller County Autogram Sentinel, 1956
Martha Ellen Shelton, 14 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon
Shelton of Iberia, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7th, following surgery at
the Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Miss Shelton entered the hospital
a few weeks ago and had undergone treatment before returning home for
the Christmas holidays. She re-entered the hospital only a few days
ago.
Martha Ellen is survived by her parents; three sisters, Maurine Stamper,
Juanita McDowell and her twin sister, Mary Helen; two brothers, Paul and
Larry Wayne, and grandmother, Mrs. Martha Shelton. She was a freshman
at the Iberia High School.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at one o’clock at the
Hickory Point Baptist Church with the Rev. B. F. Dinwiddie officiating.
Interment was made in the church cemetery under the direction of the
Hedges Funeral Home.

Dora B. Wickham, 94, Eldon, died Thursday at the Osage Beach Healthcare
Center. She was born Jan. 9, 1899, in Ulman, a daughter of David and
Mary Winfrey Bear. She was married Feb 11, 1920, to Ilda Wickham, who
died Nov. 27, 1975.
She lived near St. Elizabeth and was a homemaker. She was a member of
the Ninth Street Christian Church, Eldon.
Survivors include: two sons, Alton Wickham and Wayne Wickham, both of
Eldon; two daughters, Mary Reed, Eldon, and Alfreda Medley, Columbus,
Ga.; 19 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 11
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Donald Renken will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Memorials are

Harry David Procter, 72, Jefferson City, died Wednesday at St. Marys
Health Center (Jefferson City). He was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Olean,
the son of David R. and Letha Lehr Procter. He was married Sept 28,
1950, to Betty Renshaw, who survives of the home.
He worked with Nabisco in Buena Park, Calif., as a machinist for many
years, retiring in 1977. He then moved to Jefferson City and then to
Eugene where he was a turkey farmer for 10 years. He was a Navy veteran
of World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Carl “Bud” Procter, Russellville,
and David Procter, Eugene; three daughters, Nancy Morris, New London,
Sandra Procter, Jefferson City, and Lori Jordan, Lake Ozark; one sister,
Margaret Stram, Loves Park, Ill.; two brothers, Tom Procter, Eldon, and
Ben Procter, Florissant, one stepsister, Cecil Amos, Mexico; nine
grandchildren, one step-grandson and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Olean Cemetery.

Loren Humphrey, 74, Iberia, died Wednesday at Truman Memorial Veterans
Hospital, Columbia. He was born May 5, 1918, in Iberia, a son of Cleve
Pendleton and Stella Humphrey.
He was married Nov. 14, 1936, to Ruth Holeyfield, who died Oct. 11, 1961. He was
married Feb. 13, 1969, to Kathy Raye Rowden, who survives at the home.
An Army veteran of World War II, he owned and operated Humphrey’s
Auction Service for over 40 years. A retired painter, he was a member
of Painters Local Union No. 1265, Iberia Coon Club, Rocktown C.B. Club,
and the American Legion and VFW, Iberia.
Other survivors include: five sons, David Humphrey, Tom Humphrey, Rick
Humphrey, Jim Humphrey and Willie Humphrey, all of Iberia; seven
daughters, Betty Schmidt, Montgomery City, Joyce Ray, Dixon, Joann Belk,
Weir, Kan., Cathy Winfrey, Brumley, Peggy Marso, Crocker, Janette
Campbell and Vicky Humphrey, both of Iberia; three sisters, Mabel
Simily, Simi Valley, Calif., Lois Hughes, Tulsa, Okla., and Ruby
Richards, Rolla; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home,

Shirley Jean Gaither, 57, Eldon, died Sunday at Osage Beach Health
Center. She was born Aug 25, 1937, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter
of Albert F. and Bernice M. Wood Gaither. Her mother survives in Eldon.
She lived in Eldon most of her life and worked at Citizens Bank of Eldon
for 36 years. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church near
Eldon.
Other survivors include: one sister, Joan Schupp, Eldon, and two
brothers, Ronald Gaither and Michael Gaither, both of Lee’s Summit.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home. Brother

Patricia Ann Barnhart, 49, Henley, died Sunday at Memorial Community
Hospital, Jefferson City. She was born Feb. 26, 1944, in Iberia, a
daughter of Phillip J. and Lucille Atwell Earp, who survives in Iberia.
She was married Sept. 23, 1961 in Tuscumbia to Leo F. Barnhart who
survives at the home.
A lifetime resident of Central Missouri, she was employed as a nurse’s
aide for more than 15 years. She was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist
Church.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Frances Graham, Ulman, and
Kathy Purl, Eldon; three sons, Gene Barnhart, Olean, Leo Barnhart Jr.,
Tuscumbia, and Randy Barnhart, of the home; one brother, Jack Earp,
Iberia; one sister, Pamela Graham, Iberia; and seven grandchildren. One
son, Phillip Barnhart, preceded her in death.

Frank D. Brown, 72, Eldon, died Tuesday at his home. He was born Jan
24, 1922, in Henley, a son of Levi J. and Myrtle A. Wilson Brown. A
resident of Eldon since 1974, he worked as a farm and railroad laborer.
Survivors include one nephew and one niece.

Rita Bunch, 75, Eldon, died Tuesday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital. She was born Dec 21, 1918, in Bagnell, the daughter of Jake
and Jessie Woolley Gier. She was married Nov. 15, 1938, in Versailles,
to Leonard D. Bunch, who died Oct. 19, 1993.
A lifetime resident of the Bagnell community, she was a homemaker. She
was a member of the Bagnell Baptist Church, and most recently attended
the First Baptist Church of Eldon.
Survivors include: one son, Darrell Bunch, Eldon; four daughters, Joan
Taylor, Kay Pace and Fonda Bunch, all of Eldon, and Arlinda Martien,
Godfrey, Ill.; one sister, Irmina Dowers, Eldon; one brother, Harley
Gier, Russellville; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and
three step-great-grandchildren. One daughter, Carol Janet Bunch,
preceded her in death.

Goldilee Kissinger, 88, Iberia, died Sunday at her home. She was born
Sept. 17, 1906, in Stoutland, a daughter of Henry F. and Edna Beck
Kissinger.
A graduate of Drury College, Springfield, she taught school in Stoutland
and Hughesville until her retirement. She was a member of Barnett Union
Church, Barnett. She is survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Martha Crum Lake, 61, Olean, died Friday at the University of
Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. She was born Sept 28, 1932, in
Tuscumbia, a daughter of Wade A. and Edna Irene Bartsch Crum. On Dec.
24, 1952, she was married at Olean to Ross Lake, who survives of the
home.
She attended Olean Grade School and graduated from Eldon High School. A
graduate of Central Missouri State, Warrensburg, she taught in several
rural schools, Bond School, Harmony School, and High Point School, and
spent over 30 years teaching at Cole R-V Schools, Eugene. She was a
member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Olean Christian
Church.
Other survivors include: a son, Robert Lake, Eugene; a brother, John W.
Crum, Eldon; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ninth Street Christian Church,
Eldon, with Jim Kruse, Gilbert Pearson and Don Renken officiating.
Burial will be in Olean Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at
Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Memorials have been suggested to the
Martha Lake Memorial at Eugene School.

Davis, Knoxville; one sister, Coral Ann Strickler, Arizona City, Ariz.;
four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two sons, Gerold
Davis and Glen Davis, preceded her in death.

Quincy, Ill. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at 9th Street

Rosemund G. Volment, 82, St. Elizabeth, died Thursday at Ellis Fischel
Cancer Center, Columbia. She was born May 7, 1912, at St. Elizabeth,
the daughter of Conrad and Angela Holtmeyer Stuckenschneider. She was
married May 10, 1938, at St. Elizabeth, to Lester J. Volmert, who died
March 26, 1975.
A lifelong resident of St. Elizabeth, she was a member of St. Lawrence
Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s sodality and the WPFA. She was an
accomplished quilter.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Farquhar, Columbia and
Marjorie Cline, Rich Hill; two brothers, Norbert Stuckenschneider and
Harry Stuckenschneider, both of St. Louis; two sisters, Marie Riley and
Vera Redman, both of St. Louis; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St.
Elizabeth. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be

Denzle Carl Slone, 76, Tuscumbia, died Tuesday at St. John’s Medical
Center, Springfield. He was born May 7, 1918, the son of Elmer and Mary
Alice Crane Slone. He was married to Gladys Whitaker, who survives at
the home.
A former mayor of Tuscumbia, he was a member and elder of Tuscumbia
Christian Church. He owned and operated Slone Locker and Grocery, Ozark
Poultry Processing Company, and Slone Feed and Supply. In 1973 he was a
member of the Federal Land Bank Board, and he was listed in Who’s Who in
Missouri. He was a former member of the Eldon Bass Club, the Lake Ozark
Bass Club, the Tuscumbia Lions Club, the Tuscumbia Fire Department and
the Tuscumbia School Board. After retirement, he farmed and was a
fishing guide in Florida and Missouri.
Other survivors include: two sons, Donald Gene Slone, Springfield, and
Danny Ray Slone, Tuscumbia; one daughter, Nancy Ann Kays, Springfield;
one brother, Lloyd Slone, Eldon; two sisters, Genevieve Sullivan,

Harry Raymond Pope, 84, Versailles, died Sunday at Memorial Community
Hospital (Jefferson City). He was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Brumley, a
son of John W. and Maud Selby Pope. He was married March 31, 1931, in
Lebanon, to Mildred I. Allee, who survives at the home.
He was employed at the General Motors Leeds Plant, Kansas City, for 39
years. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 93, the Versailles Masonic
Lodge 320 A.F. & A.M., and the Camden County Historical Society. He was
a board member and volunteer for the Versailles Nutrition Site. He
served as a Boy Scout leader, and a Sunday school teacher at the Leeds
Baptist Church, Kansas City.
Other survivors include: two sons, Warren Pope, Collinsville, Ill., and
Donald Pope, Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Susan Hilliard, Kansas
City, and Neta Pope, Versailles; three sisters, Clara Miller, Ruth
Hunter and Nelta Morgan, all of Kansas City; seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eva Doris Pope, preceded him in death.

Archie Rado Golden, 88, Topeka, Kan., died Wednesday at a Topeka nursing
home. He was born Oct. 27, 1905, near Mary's Home, the son of Oliver G.
and Iva Jenkins Golden. He was married March 10, 1925, to Mildred
Sullens, who died Sept 9, 1982. He was raised and attended school in
Spring Garden. He worked for Rock Island Railroad as a section foreman
for 41 years, retiring in 1973. He then worked for two years for Bodine
Construction, Olathe, Kan.
Survivors include: three daughters, Bonnie Redmon, Ruby Trahoon and
Delores Borough, all of Topeka; three sons, Lonnie Golden, Hoyt, Kan.,
and Carl Golden and Jim Golden, both of Topeka; one brother, Lawrence
Golden, Eldon; one sister, Margaret Pitts, St. Louis; 17 grandchildren
and 30 great-grandchildren. An infant son, Raymond Gene Golden preceded
him in death in 1935.

Center (Jefferson City). She was born Dec. 23, 1909, in Eldon, the
daughter of James P. and Leora Fitzgerald Bullard. She was married in
1934 in Columbia to Earl Dunstan, who died Nov. 20, 1971.
A lifetime resident of the Eldon community, she was a graduate of
Christian College in Columbia. She was a member of the Fellowship Bible
Church in Eldon, and the AARP. She was a past member of the Town and
Country Garden Club and the Euterpean Club.
Survivors include: one daughter, Joan Jungmeyer, Eldon; one son, Robert

Before their retirement in 1971, she and her husband owned and operated
the Amos Café in Russellville. She was a member of the Ninth Street

A homemaker, she was a lifelong resident of the Marys Home area. She

Ladies’ Sodality of the church, and Marys Home Senior Citizens.

He was a member of the Vienna Church of Christ, and attended Dix Road
Church of Christ. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a
member of Local 662, Jefferson City. He worked as a painter in Ft.
Leonard Wood for 12 years. He worked in construction in Jefferson City
for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1987.

George Edward Brown, 53, Elston, died Monday at St. Mary’s Health Center
(Jefferson City). He was born Sept. 22, 1940, in Brumley, a son of
Walter and Ova Harrison Brown. His mother survives in Brumley. He was
married Nov. 5, 1966, in Eldon to Marilyn Steen, who survives at the
home.
He was a 1958 graduate of the School of the Osage. He worked for the
Missouri National Guard for 18 years and was employed by Hill Equipment,
Jefferson City, for 20 years.
He had been a farmer in Elston since 1976. A U.S. Army veteran, he was
a member of the American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5, Jefferson City, and
the National Rifle Association. He attended the Elston Baptist Church.

Roma Boatman and Alice Tannehill, both of Eldon, and Ellen McCubbin,

James W. Marberry, 69, Brumley, died Saturday at Lake of the Ozarks
General Hospital, Osage Beach. He was born July 9, 1925, in Flippin,
Ark., a son of Paul and Velma Stacy Marberry. His mother survives in
Flippin. He was married Dec. 20, 1945, in Yellville, Ark., to Pauline
Wood, who survives at the home.
He was a teacher at School of the Osage, and was elementary principal
for 15 years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World
War II. A member of Riverview Baptist Church, Osage Beach, he served as
a deacon and a substitute Sunday school teacher.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jim Marberry, Columbia and Armond
Rosenthal, West Memphis, Ark.; one daughter, Joyce King, Lake Ozark; one
brother, Bob Marberry, Flippin; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Baptist Church. The
Rev. Michael Parris will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake Memorial
Cemetery, Osage Beach. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hedges
Funeral Home, Osage Beach. Memorials are suggested to Riverview Baptist

Edna A. Gaither, 63, Eldon, died Saturday at Memorial Community
Hospital. She was born June 24, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., a daughter
of Albert and Bernice Wood Gaither. Her mother survives in Eldon.
A resident of the Eldon area most of her life, she was a member of New
Harmony Baptist Church, Eldon. She was employed by International Shoe
Co., Eldon, and Interco, Jefferson City, until her retirement.
Other survivors include: two sisters, Shirley Gaither and Joan Schupp,
both of Eldon; and two brothers, Ronald Gaither and Michael Gaither,
both of Lee’s Summit.
Services will be at 1 plm. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
Brother John W. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Toll Wood

Hazel Phillips, 69, Eldon, died Monday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital, Osage Beach. She was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Ulman, a daughter
of Henry and Dora Hale Horton. She was married Jan 2, 1945, in Kansas
City, Kan., to Wesley Phillips, who died Oct 18, 1988.
A homemaker, she lived in Miller County most of her life. For 13 years,
she co-owned and co-managed The Hut Restaurant, Olean, until her
retirement. One brother, Jack Horton, survives in Bagnell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phililps Funeral Home, Eldon.
Burial will be in Olean Cemetery, Olean. Visitation will be from 4-8

Mary Lee Vernon, 92, Eldon, died Monday at Laurie Nursing Home,
Versailles. She was born Oct. 5, 1901, in Morgan County, the daughter
of George and Mary Croy Hayes. She was married Sept 10, 1921, at
Tuscumbia, to Fred Vernon, who died June 19, 1976.
She worked as a seamstress at Glazer Brothers Pants Factory in Eldon for
20 years. She also did design quilting. She was a member of Aurora
Springs Baptist Church and of the Mount Pleasant Ladies Club.
Survivors include: two sons, Wesley Vernon, Eldon, and Andrew Vernon,
Versailles; three daughters, Ruth Beanland, Harlingen, Texas, Genevieve
Weaver, Ft. Smith, Ark., and Jean McIntyre, Tulsa, Okla.; 13
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren
and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Bob Stevenson and the Rev. Ernie Buscher will officiate. Burial
will be in Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.

Malcolm “Mac” E. Stamper, 78, Eldon, died Sunday at Eldon. He was born
May 14, 1916, in Linn Creek, the son of William and Ollie Burch Stamper.
He was married May 20, 1970, in Lebanon, to Flossie Webery, who
survives at the home.
He was raised in the Linn Creek area and lived in the Kansas City area
for more than 20 years, working in the concrete business. He spent his
last 30 years in Miller County. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Other survivors include: one son, Larry Stamper, Montreal; two
stepsons, Darrell Webery, Eldon, and Marvin Fisher, Lincoln, Neb.; two
stepdaughters, Betty Durham and Delores Webery, both of Eldon; one
brother, Bill Stamper, Linn Creek; three sisters, Icel Fields,
Versailles, Syble Spencer, Osage Beach, and Stella Baughn, Adrian; three
grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 12
step-great-grandchildren.

Ola Mae Burks, 74, Tuscumbia, died Thursday at Memorial Community
Hospital, Jefferson City. She was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Winston
County, Ala. a daughter of Melvin and Luetta Hood Taylor. She was
married to George Lee, who died in 1936. She later was married in
October 1938 in New Madrid to Virgie Burks, who survives at the home.
She lived in Sikeston before moving to Tuscumbia in1977.
Other survivors include: two sons, R. L. Lee, Tuscumbia, and Bobby
Burks, Winfield; two daughters, Annie Hines, Gustin, Calif., and Georgia
Lowe, Godfrey, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One
son, Virgie Burks Jr., died in 1969.

Ophia Mae Morrow, 92, St. Louis, formerly of Iberia, died Monday at
Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis. She was born June 19, 1900, in
Brumley, a daughter of Smith and Anna Mae Brickey Hill. She was married
Nov. 10, 1923, in St. Louis to Lester Morrow, who died Oct. 2, 1983
She moved from St. Louis to Iberia in 1961, then back to St. Louis in
1979. She was a homemaker and a member of Brays Advent Christian
Church, Iberia.
Survivors include: one daughter, Darlee Kimble, St. Louis; one son,
Lester Morrow Jr., St. Louis; three half-brothers, Eddie Hill and Edison
Hill, both of Parsons, Kan., and Roy Hill, Erie, Kan.; five
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brays Advent Christian Church.

Elmer O. Crane, 84, Meta, died Saturday at Still Regional Medical Center
(Jefferson City). He was born Sept 21, 1908, at St. Anthony, a son of
David and Ollie Pendleton Crane. He was married June 5, 1923, to Effie
Mae Stokes, who died Nov. 15, 1982. He was married Jan 20, 1986, in
Waynesville to Clarice Lorene Schriefer, who survives at the home.
He lived for 30 years in Granite City, Ill., where he was a
superintendent for General Steel Co. Following retirement in 1971, he
moved to a farm at Jerome, where h lived until moving to Meta in 1984.
He was a member of Campground Christian Church near Meta.
Other survivors include: five sons, Donald Crane, Quincy, Ill., Robert
Crane, New Orleans, La., Harley Crane, Gale Crane and Gary Crane, all of
Granite City, Ill.; one daughter, Shirley Boneau, Granite City, Ill.;

Ruby May Luttrell, 82, Osage Beach, died Thursday at Ozark Care Center,
Osage Beach. She was born Aug 30, 1910, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of
Lewis and Mary McGowan Hawken. She was married July 4, 1928, to Joel
Luttrell, who died Feb 3, 1966.
She lived most of her life in Iberia, but had lived in Richland for the
past 12 years before moving to the nursing home. She was a member of
Mt. Union Church of Christ, Brumley.
Survivors include: two sons, Junior Luttrell and Sammy Luttrell, both
of Richland; three daughters, Ida Newell and Vivian Boren, both of
Richland, and Carol Callison, Barnett; one brother, Andrew Hawken,
Tuscumbia; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Dixon Oaks Health Centre. She was born Aug 18, 1904, in Iberia, a
daughter of Wesley and Nancy Aust Denton. She was married March 5,
1922, to Dugan Shepherd, who died Sept 1, 1945.
She was a lifelong resident of the Iberia area until moving to Dixon
Oaks two years ago. She worked at Fort Leonard Wood during World War II
and later was employed with Casey’s Store in Iberia for 12 years. She
was a member of Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia.
Survivors include: one daughter, Catherine Humphrey, Dixon; three sons,
Lemoin Shepherd, Wentzville, Leman Shepherd, Foristell, and Carl
Shepherd, Dixon; three sisters, Mary Wray, St. James, Ida Belle Hails

Services were June 5 for Jerry John Hake, 80, Labadie, who died June 2
at his home. He was born March 4, 1913 in St. Elizabeth, a son of Henry
and Ida Gray Hake. He was married March 2, 1946, in Luebbering, to
Marie Timpe, who survives at the home.
He attended schools in Miller County. He was a World War II U.S. Army
veteran and earned two bronze stars. He was employed by Purina Farms,
Gray Summit, and later operated a service station. He also farmed and
raised livestock. He was a member of St. John’s Gildehaus Church.
Other survivors include two sons, William Hake, Labadie, and Randall
Hake, Villa Ridge; one daughter, Rosalyn Lewis, Villa Ridge; two
sisters, Mary Bardot, Lonedell, and Lucy Tappehorn, St. Elizabeth; two
brothers, John Hake St. Elizabeth, and Lawrence Hake, Linn; nine

Clem J. Berendzen, 87, Eugene, died Saturday at Memorial Community
Hospital, Jefferson City. He was born April 8, 1906, in Marys Home, a
son of William and Anna Schulte Berendzen. He was married Nov. 17,
1937, in St. Elizabeth to Martha C. Bax who survives at the home.
A farmer, he operated Clem’s Store in Marys Home from 1949 to 1976. He
was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Marys Home; a
member of the church choir for more than 60 years; and a fourth-degree
member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a past board member of the
Miller County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
Other survivors include: three sons, James Berendzen, Centertown, Tom
Berendzen, Clearwater, Fla., and Dan Berendzen, Wardsville; six
daughters, Dolores Schulte, Dottie Kempker and Marsha Hayes, all of

life. She was active in a senior citizens group and belonged to the

married to Jessie Wallace, who also preceded her in death.
She lived in the Lake area all of her life and worked as a waitress in
many area restaurants. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church,
Kaiser.

She retired after 40 years of employment from Biltwell Manufacturing,
Tipton. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, Clarksburg.

Constance Atherton Dolby, 69, Eldon, died Saturday at Boone Hospital
Center, Columbia. She was born March 8, 1924, in Kansas City, a
daughter of Harold and Lois Stevens Atherton. She was married April 26,
1946, in Columbia, to Richard Dolby, who survives at the home.
She had been a member of the Eldon community since 1946. She and her
husband owned and operated Dolby Locker Plant and Dolby Real Estate
prior to retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church,
Eldon, member and past president of Beta Sigma Pi Sorority, and member
and past president of the Eldon Garden Club.
Other survivors include: one son, Harold Dolby, Eldon; one daughter,
Elizabeth Calvert, Topeka, Kan.; and five grandchildren. Services will

John C. Stuckenschneider, 80, St. Elizabeth, died Monday at Still
Regional Medical Center. He was born June 12, 1912, at St. Elizabeth,
the son of Joseph and Josephine Kemna Stuckenschneider. He was married
Sept 16, 1939, to Isabelle Vandeven, who survives.
He farmed most of his life in the St. Elizabeth community and was a
member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Other survivors include: two sons, John Stuckenschneider, St.
Elizabeth, Joe Stuckenschneider, Arnold; five daughters, Norma Beck, St.
Elizabeth, Pat Pickles, Livermore, Calif., Mary Lou Stuckenschneider,

Norbert J. Kirkweg, 59, Eldon, died Tuesday at his home. He was born
May 30, 1933, in St. Elizabeth, a son of William and Mary Borgemeyer
Kirkweg. He was married Nov. 24, 1956, in Eldon to Anna Sanning, who
survives at the home.
He had lived in the Eldon area for over 30 years and was employed as an
auto body repairman with Eldon Ford Mercury for several years before his
retirement. He was an Army veteran and a member of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, Eldon; Knights of Columbus; and Eldon VFW Post 2442.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Patricia West, Lake Ozark and
Brenda Kennedy, Kimberling City; four sons, Roger Kirkweg, Mark Kirkweg,
Jim Kirkweg and Jason Kirkweg, all of Eldon; three brothers, Cornie

survives in Tuscumbia. She was married Oct. 8, 1955, in Tuscumbia to
Donald Abbett, who survives at the home. A homemaker, she was a member
of Tuscumbia Christian Church.

Grant Skaggs, 74, Iberia, died Sunday at Still Regional Medical Center
(Jefferson City). He was born April 21, 1918, near Iberia, a son of
Theodore and Octavie Humphrey Skaggs. He was married June 15, 1939, in
Tuscumbia, to Irene Palmer, who survives at the home.
He was a farmer and drove a school bus for the Iberia school district
for 17 years. He was also a substitute mail carrier for Iberia for 19
years. He was a lifelong resident of the Iberia area and member of the
Brays Advent Christian Church, Iberia.
Other survivors include four daughters, Joan Juergens, Belleville, Ill.,
Sue Grider, Gardner, Kan., Reta Shelton, Jefferson City, and Paula
Schneider, Eldon; two brothers, Rayborn Skaggs, Bunker, and Gordon
Skaggs, New London, Conn.; three sisters, Alma Myers, Lutesville, Nova
Dake, Iberia, and Faye Lamb, St. Louis; and eight grandchildren. One
son, Tom Skaggs, preceded him in death on Feb 12, 1992.

Center. She was born Aug 14, 1892, in St. Elizabeth, a daughter of
George and Angela Rehagen Dickneite. She was married Nov. 27, 1913, in
Knoble, Ark., to Dr. Henry Luetkemeyer, who died Feb. 18, 1929.
She was a homemaker and lived in Meta for the past 80 years. She was a
member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta, the Ladies Sodality,
Meta Senior Citizens and Meta Civic League.
Survivors include one daughter, Margie Luebbert, Meta; three sons, Anton
Luetkemeyer, St. Louis, George Luetkemeyer, Chicago, James Luetkemeyer,
Florissant; 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. Two sons, Lawrence Luetkemeyer and Charles

Memorial Hospital, LaGrange, Ill. She was a daughter of Charles and
Cora Miller Short.
She taught high school in Missouri and Illinois before retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Morris, the United
Methodist Women’s Meriam Circle, Illinois Education Association, Grundy
County Retired Teachers Association, Morris Women’s Club and Morris
Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include one sister, Edith Chittum,
Morris.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stevinson-Mossman Funeral

5, 1917, at Iberia, a son of Joseph and Nettie Bond Hensley. He was
married June 27, 1981, at Osage Beach, to Lois Dean Colvin Hulsey, who
survives at the home.
A 1937 graduate of Tuscumbia High School, he was a farmer for most of
his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II. He was
a member of the Ulman Christian Church and of the Masonic Lodge 410, AF
& AM, at Iberia.
Other survivors include: one stepson, Edward Hulsey, Brumley; two
brothers, Wade Hensley and Jasper Hensley, both of Ulman; and one
sister, Ocal Condra, Columbia.

He worked for the Frisco Railroad, St. Louis, before retiring and moving

Tuscumbia. She was born Jan. 8, 1893, in Iberia, a daughter of Albert
and Mary Long Whittle. She was married Sept. 22, 1912, in Iberia, to
Owen Barnett, who died Oct 28, 1984.
She was a homemaker and had worked as a cook at Fort Leonard Wood during
World War II. She was a lifelong resident of Iberia and one of the
founders of the Iberia Friendship Hall. She was a member of the Iberia
First Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Elzie Barnett, Cuba, Wayne Barnett,
Iberia, and Jennings Barnett, Montreal; two daughters, Imogene
Riemensnider and Geraldine Dake, both of Iberia; 19 grandchildren, 34
great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. One son, Earl
Barnett, preceded her in death in 1982.

Mrs. Arie B. Fogleman, 84, Tuscumbia, died Thursday at the Phelps County
Hospital in Rolla. (1974)
Mrs. Fogleman was born September 7, 1890. at Eldon, the daughter of Isaiah
and Martha Moseley Bunker. On March 6, 1912, she was married to William
Fogleman who died in March 1937.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldon.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Helen Lawson, Tuscumbia, Mrs. Ruby
Webb, Rolla, Mrs. Pauline Meehan, Arlington, Va.and Mrs. Lilliam Thomas, Raytown;

died April 9, 1983. He was married Sept 13 in Osage Beach to Betty
Miller Goewey, who survives at the home.
A Navy veteran, he was an antique dealer in the Iberia area for many
years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints in Osage Beach.

Fla., Phillis McDaniel, Eldon, Maxine Happe, Montreal, Barbara Nations,

1989.
A lifelong resident of the Eldon Area, she was a member of Mt. Pleasant

Center (Jefferson City). He was born April 6, 1958, in Louisville, Ky.,

Leitchfield, Ky. His mother survives in Eldon. He was married Feb. 17,
1979, in Long Beach, Calif., to Debra L. O’Dell, who survives of the
home.
He moved from Kentucky to Eldon in 1979. He worked as a processor at
Cargil in California.

Sunday at her home. She was born Dec 2, 1905, in Tuscumbia, a daughter
of John N. and Eliza Wilcox Brockman. She was married Nov. 22, 1930, to
Roy W. Starling, who died June 18, 1949.
She was employed as a legal secretary for the Missouri Supreme Court,
Jefferson City, until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of First
Presbyterian Church, Leavenworth, the Order of the Eastern Star, Eldon
and Chapter EO, PEO, Leavenworth. She worked as a volunteer at Cushing
Memorial Hospital and the YWCA, Leavenworth.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Nell Semple, Leavenworth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Randall W. Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City

Melvin H. Allen, 68, Iberia, died Monday at Truman Memorial Veterans
Hospital, Columbia. He was born April 29, 1926, in Crocker, the son of
John and Anna Morgan Allen. He was married Dec. 4, 1946, in
Waynesville, to Reba Shelton, who survives at the home.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was known for his woodwork of
miniature log cabins. He was a volunteer at Iberia Friendship Hall, and
a member of various groups and organizations in Iberia.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Birdsong, Eureka
Springs, Ark., and Pam Ash, Iberia; two brothers, Delmar Allen,
Stockton, and Gene Allen, Swedeborg; one sister, Lois Karr, High Point;
two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

born Aug. 17, 1923, in Miller County, a son of Charley F. and Mary R.

He was employed by Sunshine Silver Mine Company, state of Idaho, until
his retirement. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a lifetime member of a
Veterans of Foreign Wars post in the state of Tennessee.

to Wesley Pope, who died in 1969. She was married in 1979 to Henry
Platter, who survives at the home. She lived most of her life in the
Kansas City area, and was a member of the Church of God.

George W. Colvin, 73, Jefferson City, died Saturday at St. Marys Health
Center. He was born April 22, 1921, in Iberia, a son of Pete and
Marjorie Wyrick Colvin. He was married Aug. 4, 1945, in Jefferson City,
to Katherine Connell, who survives at the home.
A World War II veteran, he received three bronze stars. He was a member
of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003. He worked at Landwehr, Quality
and Central dairies. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator for
the Special Road District.

James Hamacher, 80, Jefferson City, died Friday at St. Marys Health
Center. He war born March 29, 1914, at Marys Home, the son of Otto and
Gertrude Ley Hamacher. He was married May 23, 1933, in Jefferson City
to Margaret Kliegel who survives at the home.
He attended Marys Home schools. He was employed with the Jefferson City
Police Department for 12 years, then was employed as the first
supervisor of the Jefferson City Parking Authority Garage for 17 years
until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic
Church, and a charter member of the Eagles Lodge, Aerie 2693.
Other survivors include: one son, Jerry Hamacher, Jefferson City; two
daughters, Betty McMichael, Florissant, and Judy Hasenbeck, Jefferson
City; one sister, Dorothy Mankin, Holts Summit; nine grandsons; and six
great-grandchildren. One son, David Hamacher, died Aug. 30, 1975.

Lewis Edwards, who died July 12, 1941. She was married in 1946 in
Jefferson City, to Clarence Miles, who died in November 1984.
A housewife, she was a member of the Christian Church. She attended
Tuscumbia schools.

A lifetime resident of Miller County, she was employed for the past 13
years with the U.S. Postal Service in Olean, managing the post office
there for the past two years. She was a member of the Olean Fair Board
and a longtime member of the Mt. Herman Homemakers Club. She belonged
to Olean Baptist Church, where she served as organist for more than 25
years. She also was clerk of the Miller County Baptist Association.

He was retired from civil service at Ft. Leonard Wood where he worked in
the meat packing department. He served in the Army Air Force during
World War II.

Hospital, Brooklyn. She was born June 10, 1916, in Bagnell, a daughter

since 1940.
Survivors include: two sisters, Icel Routon, Blue Springs and Roberta
Biggs, Eldon; and one brother, Robert Howser, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
A memorial graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Eldon City

Lee W. Mason, 78, Eldon, died Monday at his home. He was born June 24,
1915, in Humnoke, Ark., a son of John and Vina Campbell Mason. He was
married June 2, 1953, in Eldon to Aulta Clark, who survives at the home.
He was a carpenter for 55 years. He lived in Eldon for 23 years. He
was a member of Carpenters Local No. 945, Jefferson City, and Bible Way
Church, Eldon.

Fla.; one stepson, Gerald Hale, Eldon; one stepdaughter, Dianna

Sarah A. Whittle, 90, Brumley, died Friday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital, Osage Beach. She was born Feb. 26, 1903, in Iberia, a
daughter of Fred and Augusta Crane Stone. She was married July 31,
1920, in Tuscumbia to Otto E. Whittle, who died Dec. 18, 1987.
For more than 40 years, she was co-owner and operator of several taverns
in Miller County, including the Brumley Tavern for the past 15 years.
She was a member of Brumley Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Bill Whittle, Brumley; three daughters,
Vivian Whittle, Eldon, Pearl Wood, Brumley, and Edna Fletcher, Dallas;
one brother, Bill Stone, Oak Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Josephine
Nicholas, Sacramento, Calif., and Bertha Coburn, Hughson, Calif.; 18
grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, Elmer Whittle and Harold Whittle,
preceded her in death.

Delbert O. Lindstrom, 79, Eldon, died Saturday at Memorial Community
Hospital (Jefferson City). He was born May 20, 1914, in Crown Point,
Ind., a son of Frank O. G. and Dottie D. Sherrick Lindstrom. He was
married Sept. 1, 1989, in Tuscumbia to Lucy Stocking, who survives at
the home.
He was a policeman for 15 years in the Midlothian, Ill. Police
Department. He retired as a machinist from Accuraute Ready Mix,
Hazelcrest, Ill. He was a member of Machinist Local No. 701, in
Chicago. He served in the Marines from 1943-1947.
Other survivors include: one stepson, Ricky Wittrock, Stover; one
sister, Violet Shipe, Boulder, Colo.; and two step-grandsons.
No services are planned. The body will be cremated under the direction
of Griswold-Kays Funeral Home, Eldon.

Grace M. Vernon, 102, Eldon, died Saturday at Lake of the Ozarks General
Hospital. She was born Aug. 30, 1890, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of James
E. and Martha Jane Hawken Clark. She married Edgar W. Vernon on June
26, 1920, in Eldon. He died Dec. 14, 1980.
A homemaker, she also taught in rural schools in Miller County for
several years. She was a lifetime resident of the Eldon community. She
belonged to the Aurora Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert H. Vernon, Jefferson City, and
Clark L. Vernon, Eldon; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren
and one step-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son,
Harry Vernon.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home,
Eldon. The Rev. Bob Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in the

William Walter Ash, 69, Brumley, died Thursday at St. Marys Health
Center. He was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Miller County, a son of Parthena
Ash. He was married Oct. 14, 1943, in Kansas to Naomi Barton, who
survives at the home.
He was a heavy equipment operator and carpenter for the Lodge of the
Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, until his retirement.

Paul Vernon Lovell, 59, Eldon, died Tuesday at St. Marys Health Center,
Jefferson City. He was born Dec. 24, 1933, in St. Louis, a son of
Arthur and Goldie Shackleford Lovell. His father survives in Eldon. He
was married Nov. 12, 1953, in Salem Ark., to Peggy Page, who survives at
the home.
He served in the Air Force from 1953-1973. Following his retirement
from the Air Force, he worked for Kraft Foods, Eldon; Pryor Novelty,
Tuscumbia; and Osage Products, Eldon. He also had a woodworking shop in
his home. He was a member of the Eldon VFW Post.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Joan Ryan, Tuscumbia, Virgin
Morrison, Versailles, Peggy Waite and Scarlet Albrecht, both of Eldon;
12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was raised in Lebanon and had worked for Empire Gas Co. for more than

Fannie O. Roberds, 88, Jefferson City, died Tuesday at the Villa Marie
Skilled Nursing Facility (Jefferson City). She was born Dec. 18, 1904,
in Miller County, a daughter of Green and Alice Rea Blackburn. She was
married May 20, 1920, in Versailles, to James Farris who died Dec. 11,
1970. She was later married March 23, 1974, to Oscar Roberds, who died
in October 1980.
She had been a resident of Jefferson City since 1969. She attended
schools in Miller County. She had been employed as a file clerk with
the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 40 years in Kansas City prior to her
retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nadine Sanders, Jefferson City; one son,
James Farris, Clovis, Calif.; six grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Freeman Chapel. The Rev. Gary

A farmer for several years, he was a tie and lumber inspector with the

She was a licensed practical nurse, and performed on a local radio

Curtis “Curt” L. Musick, 54, Wheaton, died Wednesday at St. John’s
Regional Health Center, Springfield, following a lengthy illness. He
was born Sept. 21, 1938, in Hickory Hill, a son of Elmer L. and Gladys
Scott Musick. He was married June 1, 1957, in Tuscumbia to Gladys
Robinett, who survives.
A graduate of Tuscumbia High School, he received his degree in
agriculture from Lincoln University, Jefferson City. He was employed
for 28 years as a dairy farm specialist with Kraft General Foods. He
moved to the Wheaton area from Warsaw in 1971. He was a member of
Prosperity Baptist Church at Rocky Comfort.
Other survivors include: one son, Jeff Musick, Wheaton; two daughters,
Vicki Holmes, Wheaton, and Stephani Leverich, Joplin; three brothers,
Charles Musick, Tuscumbia, Conley Musick Springfield, and Carroll “Dink”

A homemaker, she had lived in the state of California. She was a member
of the Bethel Baptist Church, Escondido, Calif.

Escondido, and Bruce Harrell, state of Oregon; one daughter, Delores
Cochran, Iberia; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Tuscumbia, to Pauline Bittle, who survives of the home.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He served as a state
representative for six years, and as Miller County Commissioner for
several years. He was then the Miller County clerk, retiring in 1982.
A lifetime resident of Miller County, he was a member of Eugene
Christian Church.

Lucian A. Brown, who died Nov. 11, 1981.
She had worked as a press operator in the printing business and was a
graduate of Kentucky State Normal School. She taught public school for
several years and had been a member of the First Christian Church,
Eldon, since 1983.
She is survived by one daughter, Marje Ketcham, Eldon, three
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He worked as an auto mechanic. He lived most of his life in Pulaski and
Miller Counties, except for a time in California and most recently in
Texas.

Camden County, to Virginia Runyan, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Miller and Morgan counties, he owned and operated
Maher Auto Sales, Eldon for 25 years. He was a past president of the
Eldon Kiwanis Club, past local union president of International Shoe
Co., Eldon, and past chairman of the Miller County Democratic Committee.

Bryce Fischer, 88, Tuscumbia, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Care
Center. He was born March 10, 1908, in Ulman, a son of John N. and
Nellie Sooter Fischer. He was married June 12, 1932, in Iberia, to Eula
Bilyeu, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Tuscumbia, he farmed and was a member of the
Miller County Historical Society. He attended Iberia Church of Christ.
Other survivors include: one son, Roger B. Fischer, Tuscumbia; one
daughter, Karen Fagan, Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Ialeen Scott,
Jefferson City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Bro
Gene Edwards and Bro. Gary Murrell will officiate. Burial will be in
Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.

Lloyd Wallace Hart, 84, New Bloomfield, died Tuesday at St. Marys Health
Center (Jefferson City). He was born July 25, 1912, in Mary’s Home, a
son of John and Minnie Bamgart Hart. He was married Aug. 10, 1940, in
Jefferson City, to Margaret Renn, who survives at the home.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Fraternal Order
of Eagles Lodge for more than 20 years.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Pauline Schobert, New
Bloomfield; two sisters, Evelyn Mormann, Eugene, and LaVerne Allen,
Eldon; two brothers, Jack Hart and Osby Hart, both of Eldon; four
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit.
The Rev. Robert Korff will officiate. Entombment will be in the
mausoleum at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8

Walter P. Smith, 85, Tuscumbia, died Thursday at his home. He was born
Dec. 28, 1911, in Tuscumbia, a son of Roy E. and Ida Lee Wright Smith.
He was a self-employed electrician in the Miller County area for several
years. He served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army during World War
II.
Survivors include: two sisters, Mary Dean Thompson, Tuscumbia, and
Vivian E. Carlson, Fallon, Nev.; two brothers, Paul C. Smith and Bryce
Gene Smith, both of Tuscumbia; two stepdaughters, Billy Sue Herzing,
Russellville, and Sandra Conduff, Centertown; and two step-grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Don Bilbary will officiate. Full military graveside honors will be
presented by Eldon VFW Post 2442 at Gott Cemetery, Ulman.

Norman W. Varner, 85, Eldon, died Wednesday at Eldon Healthcare. He was
born Feb. 25, 1912, in Tuscumbia, a son of Francis L. and Missouri Allen
Varner. He was married Jan. 2, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan., to Ethelene
A. Brown, who died Sept 30, 1987.
He was raised in Miller County and lived in Springfield and Kansas City
for many years, moving back to Miller County in 1977. He was a
carpenter and worked for Dog Patch in Lake Ozark and the Eldon School
District. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include: two sons, Raymond W. Varner, Jamestown, and Norman F.
Varner, Jefferson City; four daughters, Ann Imhoff, Betty Lee Varner and
Jackie Cantwell, all of Eldon, and Toni L. Pace, California; one sister,
Estella Thieme, St. Louis; 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Griswold-Kays Funeral Home,
Eldon. The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon

Services were Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Alves J.
“Al” Herx, 77, formerly of Raytown and Jefferson City, who died March 4
at Foxwood Springs Nursing Home, Peculiar. Burial was in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
He was born March 19, 1919, in Tuscumbia. He was married to Blanche
Rackers who survives at the home.
He was a mechanic for A. J. Goss & Co. and a member of Teamsters Local
552. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean
Conflict.
Other survivors include: two sons, Bill Herx, Fort Wayne, Ind., and
Dennis Herx, Nova Scotia, Canada; three daughters, Marilyn Scott,
Peculiar, Sheila Laird, Lee’s Summit, and Jackie Geisler, Bates City;
one brother, August Herx, Jefferson City; two sisters, Marie Goodman,

Nolan L. “Nole” Robinett, 75, Tuscumbia, died Monday at Capital Region
Medical Center-Madison (Jefferson City). He was born Aug 7, 1921, in
Henley, a son of Elmer and Cecilia Luttrell Robinett. He was married
Oct. 25, 1941, in Brumley, to Leona Morrow, who survives in St.
Elizabeth.
Prior to retirement, he worked for the State Highway Department and the
Bagnell Special Road District. He was a member of the Miller County Fox
Hunters Association and was recognized by the Tuscumbia Lions Club for
his support of youth athletics.
Other survivors include: seven daughters, Mary Barnhart, Montreal,
Marjorie Forbis, Alice Ash and Cindy Colvin, all of Iberia, Betty
English, Eldon, Debbie Davenport, Ulman, and June Kaiser, Brumley; one
son, Leslie Robinett, Columbia; 15 grandchildren and 19
great-grandchildren.

Ella Louise Ponder, 62, Iberia, died Monday from injuries sustained in
an automobile accident near Iberia. She was born May 21, 1934, in
Centertown, a daughter of Charles Sr. and Regina Steimel Hurst. She was
married May 7, 1955, in Jefferson City, to Wayne Ponder, who survives at
the home.
She was an auditor for the Army Air Force Exchange System in Alaska.
She retired in 1986 and returned to Missouri. She worked at Ozark Care
Center, Osage Beach and attended St. Anthony Catholic Church, St.
Anthony.
Other survivors include: two sons, Dennis Ponder, Palmer, Alaska, and
Mark Ponder, North Pole, Alaska; two brothers, Charles Hurst Jr.,
Jefferson City and Franklin Hurst, Meta; two sisters, Myrene Hoellering,
California, and Virgnia Burger, Independence; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Robert L. “Bob” Graham, 71, Brumley, died Saturday at Lake of the Ozarks
General Hospital, Osage Beach. He was born March 21, 1925, in Brumley,
a son of Ray and Ethel Blew Graham. He was married Sept 9, 1947, in
Ulman, to Dixie Faye Devore, who died April 28, 1986.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he farmed in the Brumley area and worked
as a ski instructor at Kirkwood Lodge, Osage Beach. He was employed as
a school bus driver by School of the Osage for more than 35 years until
his retirement in 1996.
Survivors include: three brothers, Clrence Graham and George Graham,
both of Ulman, and James Graham, Bonner Springs, Kan.; and four sisters
Mildred Alieksaites and Marilyn Carico, both of Ulman, Norma Jean Ahart,
Tuscumbia, and Kathryn Humphrey, Brumley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Bro.

Larkin Douglas “Doug” Watson, 87, Eldon died Tuesday at Capital Region
Medical Center-Southwest. He was born Jan. 20, 1910, in Coldwater,
Mich., a son of Joseph R. and Mabel Milnes Watson. He was married Aug
19, 1977, in Eldon, to Margaret Myers, who survives at the home.
He had been a dispatcher for Joe Booth Towing Co. in Kansas City. He
was a member of St. Marks Church, Coldwater, Past Exhalted Ruler of Elks
26, member of the Kansas City Country Club, Masonic Lodge 656 and Araret
Temple in Kansas City.
Other survivors include: one stepson, Ronald Watson, Scottsdale, Ariz.;
one sister, Barbara Symons, Coldwater; nine grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Iberia.
She was a member of Iberia VFW Post 6167 Ladies Auxiliary, and past
president of the Second District of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
