Obituary: Miller County Autogram-Sentinel, September 1991
Doral VanHooser, 58, of Eldon died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1991 at the
University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia. He was born Sept.
10, 1932 in Miller County to Oscar M. and Montie Mae Jobe VanHooser. On
Dec. 24, 1953 he was married to Beulah Anderson, who survives at the
home.
Mr. VanHooser was a construction worker and a lifetime resident of the
Eldon community. He was employed with the Lodge of the Four Seasons for
several years prior to his retirement.
Other survivors are three sons, Leslie VanHooser, Darrell VanHooser and
Donald Horne, all of Eldon; a daughter, Paula Martin of Eldon; two
brothers, Donald VanHooser of Orrick and Chum VanHooser of Kansas City;
three sisters, Bonnie Campbell of Eldon, Helen McDonald of Sedalia and
Opal Wood of Gower; seven grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Life Assembly of
God in Barnett. The Rev. George Duckworth, Tom Madole and Ronnie Hess
will officiate. Burial will be in Dooley Cemetery. Visitation will be
held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Phillips
Funeral Home in Eldon. Memorials may be given to the American Heart
Association.

Eulice F. Anderson, 82, of Yakima, Wash., died Thursday, Aug 6, 1992, at
Emerald circle Nursing Home in Wapato, Wash. She was born Jan. 24,
1910, in Brumley to Levi and Julia Robinett Albertson. On Jan 12, 1927,
she was married in Brumley to Luther Anderson.
The Andersons moved to the Yakima Valley in 1941, living in the Wapato
area and then moving to Yakima in 1954. Mrs. Anderson had worked for
Pacific Fruit until her retirement in 1975.
Surviving her are three daughters, Ellen Johns of Lesti, Ark., Julia
Johnson of Yakima, Wash., and Ester Archer of Mabton, Wash.; a brother,
Murrell Albertson of Missouri, four sisters Bernice Ash, Anna Ahart,
Alice Ahart and Lura Smith of Missouri; nine grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Aug. 10 at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home in
Yakima, Wash., with burial in West Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may

Maurice J. Barklage, 67, of Rocky Mount died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1991 at
Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born Nov.
17, 1923 in St. Charles County to Emil and Adele Schlenther Barklage.
On Aug 6, 1949 he was married in St. Charles to Marva Honerkamp, who
survives at the home.
Mr. Barklage owned and operated Barklage Dry Wall Construction Company
in Rocky Mount. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and was
a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Barklage and
Jeff Barklage, both of Rocky Mount; two daughters, Jeanie Wright of
Olathe, Kan. and Judy Doolin of Spring Hill, Kan.; a sister, Mildred
Payton of Wentzville; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake Chapel of
Hedges Funeral Home. Burial was in Lake Memorial Cemetery at Osage
Beach.

Susan R. Pendleton, 95, of Tuscumbia died Monday, Aug 24, 1992, at St.
Elizabeth Care Center in St. Elizabeth. She was born April 30, 1897, in
Maries County to John and Sarah Hickey McKee. On April 8, 1917, she was
married to Osby W. Pendleton, who died Aug 12, 1980. Mrs. Pendleton was
a lifelong resident of Miller County.
Surviving her are three sons, Harold Alvin Pendleton of St. Elizabeth
and John Pendleton and Danny Pendleton, both of Tuscumbia; two
daughters, Nadine Moore of Raytown and Ila Shepherd of Russelville; 12
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Gene Edwards
officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Tuscumbia.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Everett “Jim” McGowan, 72, of Eldon died Saturday, March 7, 1992, at
Still Regional Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born Dec. 19, 1919,
in Miller County to Everett Douglas and Myrtle Helstab McGowan. On Nov.
10, 1937, he was married in Morgan County to Lucille Burris, who
survives.
Mr. McGowan was a lifetime resident of Miller County. He was a member
of a Baptist Church in Kansas City and was a self-employed carpenter.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Bob McGowan of
Elk, Wash., and James McGowan of Eldon; three daughters, Barbara Lanham,
Bonnie Hodge and Melissa McGowan, all of Eldon; two brothers Lewis Wood
of Gower and Hershel Wood, both of Eldon*; two sisters, Ina Gower of
Kansas City, Kan., and Emma Burris of Eldon; 10 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Griswold-Kays Funeral
Home in Eldon with the Rev. Marvin Witt officiating. Burial was in the
Tol Wood Cemetery near Eldon.

James “Jim” Noble Meredith of Seattle, Wash. Died Aug 2, 1991 at his
home. He was born May 22, 1918 to Marshall and Pearl Winfrey Meredith
and was reared in the Iberia area. He served with honors in the U.S.
Army during World War II. For 37 years he was a longshoreman in
Seattle.
Surviving him are a son, Michael Meredith of Des Moines, Wash.; a
daughter, Ramona Meredith Wood of Des Moines, Wash.; four grandchildren;
and three brothers, Gerald Meredith of Redwood City, Calif., and Paul
Meredith and Gene Meredith, both of Iberia.
Funeral services were held at Yarington Funeral Home Chapel in Seattle
with the Rev. Russell Galbreath of the West Seattle Christian Church
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.

Alphonse J. Holtmeyer, 81, of St. Elizabeth died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1991
at Still Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born July
10, 1910 at St. Elizabeth to Joseph and Margaret Schaffer Holtmeyer. On
June 23, 1943 he was married to Regina Luebbert, who survives.
Mr. Holtmeyer was a farmer and plumber employed by Lindenbusch Plumbing
in St. Elizabeth for many years. He was an Army Veteran of World War
II. He was a lifelong resident of St. Elizabeth where he was a member
of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Sodality.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Raymond Holtmeyer of
Osage Bend, George Holtmeyer and Leonard Holtmeyer, both of St.
Elizabeth; five daughters, Joann Feltrop and Helen Branch, both of
Jefferson City, Irene Schaben of Meta, Mildred Musick of Aurora and
Bernice Holtmeyer of St. Elizabeth; two brothers, Frank Holtmeyer of St.
Elizabeth and Leo Holtmeyer of St. Thomas; two sisters, Emma Brauhn of
Waterloo, Iowa and Mararet Hawkins of Tuscumbia; 37 grandchildren; and
eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Stevinson-Mossman Funeral
Home in St. Elizabeth. The rosary will be prayed at 4 and 7:30 p.m. at
the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence
Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with the Rev. John Degnan officiating.
Military rites and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in St.
Elizabeth.

Howard Hall, 76, of Eldon died Monday, Aug 12, 1991 at St. Mary’s Health
Center in Jefferson City. He was born Nov. 25, 1914 at Buick, Mo. to
William Melvin and Alice Menerva Crocker Hall. On March 24, 1934 he was
married in Capps to Flossie Barton, who survives at the home.
Mr. Hall moved to Eldon in 1988 from a farm near St. Elizabeth where he
lived for 43 years. He was a farmer and carpenter and in 1949 he was
ordained as a deacon of Humphrey’s Creek Christian Church where he was a
member.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Ronald Howard Hall of
Center and James William Hall of Iberia; six daughters, Wanda Chandler
of St. Charles, Donnavee Henley, Alicia Atwell and Kathy Albertson, all
of Eldon, Glenna Gardner of Lake Ozark and Diane Blankenship of Iberia;
a sister, Villa Fern Corbin of Jefferson City; a brother, Lloyd “Pete”
Hall of Glover; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral
Home with the Rev. Gene Edwards and the Rev. Ed Teal officiating.
Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 to 8
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gertrude Goeller, 86, of Iberia died Friday, Oct. 18, 1991 at Green
Meadows Health Center in Linn. She was born May 19, 1905 at St. Anthony
to Bernard and Mary Berhorst Holtmeyer. On July 28, 1932 she was
married at St. Anthony to Anton Goeller, who died July 26, 1966.
Mrs. Goeller was a lifetime resident of the ST. Elizabeth and St.
Anthony communities. She was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic
Church and the Ladies Sodality.
Surviving her are four sons, John Goeller of Meta, Jerome Goeller of
Jefferson City, Raymond Goeller of Russellville and Clarence Goeller of
St. Anthony; five daughters, Marie Wenrick, Anna Shook and Eleanor Reed,
all of Jefferson City, Dorothy Schroll of Girard, Ill. and Donna
Sleffner of Ballwin; a sister, Josephine Wieberg of St. Elizabeth; 25
grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at the St. Anthony
Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Lorenz officiating. Burial was in
the St. Lawrence Cemetery at St. Elizabeth under the direction of
Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home in Iberia.

Goldie Mae Wall, 73, died Wednesday, Aug 7, 1991 at St. Mary’s Health
Center in Jefferson City. She was born Aug 25, 1917 in Richland to
William and Bertha Knatzer Becker. On April 28, 1937 she was married in
Rolla to Andy Wall, who survives at the home.
Mrs. Wall taught school for 24 ˝ years before retiring. She was a 1936
graduate of Richland High School and also was a graduate of Lincoln
University.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Kenneth Wall of
Crocker; five daughters, Mrs. Garland (Wilda) Leach of Crocker, Mrs. Bob
(Karla) Tannehill of Union, Mrs. John (Jeannie) Matukewicz of Cassville
and Mrs. Joe (Brenda) Helton and Mrs. Jim (Donna) Shalbot of Iberia; 17
grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a
sister, Helen Ramsey of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, Ray Becker of
Clark, S.D. and Ed Ward Becker of Iberia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Long Funeral Home in
Crocker with Pastor Billy Claiborn officiating. Burial was in the
Crocker Cemetery.

Edwin B. “Ted” Clement, 67, of Tuscumbia died Thursday, March 5, 1992,
at his home. He was born March 19, 1924, in Fowler, Kan., to Neill and
Esther Bishop Clement. On Sept. 15, 1944, he was married in Van Buren,
Ark., to Juanita Pendleton, who survives at the home.
Mr. Clement lived in Iberia from the mid-1950s until moving to Tuscumbia
in 1969. He was a retired contract truck driver. During World War II
he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Iberia Masonic Lodge
410, AF & AM.
Surviving , in addition to his wife, are three sons, Ron Clement of
Eldon, Mark Clement of Tuscumbia and Rick Clement of Columbia; two
daughters, Edwina Slone of Tuscumbia and Teddy Sue Allen of Eldon; a
sister, Alma Adams of Yakima, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stevinson-Mossman
Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Gene Edwards officiating. Burial was
in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Tuscumbia. Masonic services were held at 8
p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Donald D. Green, 59, of Cahokia, Ill., formerly of Capps, died Thursday,
Aug 8, 1991 at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill. He was
born Aug 6, 1932 at Capps to Elmer F. and Tina A. Barton Green. On
Sept. 5, 1951 he was married at Fayetteville, Ark. To Shirlene Star, who
survives at the home.
Mr. Green was employed as an engineer for Manufacturer’s Railroad in
Roxanna, Ill. for 20 years. He retired last year.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Debbie Beys
of Waterlo, Ill. and Karen Rose of Montreal, Mo.; four brothers, David
Green of St. Elizabeth, Floyd Green of Meta, Dewey Green of Tuscumbia
and Marvin Green of Cahokia, Ill.; two sisters, JoAnn Goshwa of Marion,
Ohio and Marilyn Mauzy of West Plains; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Stevinson-Mossman
Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth with the Rev. Edward Teal officiating.
Burial was in the Capps Cemetery.

Harold W. Adcock, 62, of Imperial Beach, Calif., died Dec. 28 at his
home. He was a decorated master chief in the U. S. Navy, specializing
in photo intelligence. He had a second career at National Steel and
Shipbuilding Co.
Surviving him are his wife Noriko; his mother, Ocra Adcock of Tuscumbia;
sons Richard Chase of San Francisco and Randy Chase of San Diego;
daughters Shirley Nakawatase of Imperial Beach and Nikia Angel of New
Mexico; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Pinkham-Mitchell Mortuary. He was
cremated and his ashes scattered at sea.

Edna Mae Jones, 92, of Iberia died Saturday, March 23, 1991 at the St.
Elizabeth Care Center in St. Elizabeth. She was born Feb 13, 1899 at
Iberia to Mannasah and Sarah Ann Aust Jones.
Miss Jones taught for many years in Central Missouri. She was a
graduate of the Iberia Academy and held a Bachelor of Science degree in
education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was a member of
the Iberia First Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter
537 in Iberia.
Surviving are nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m.
Monday at Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Stan Way
officiating. Burial was in Livingston Cemetery near Iberia.

Matthew William Bilyeu, 17, of Dixon died Thursday, October 17, 1991 as
the result of a truck accident. He was born Dec. 26, 1973 at Rolla to
Jesse Lee and Glenna Jean Johnson Bilyeu, who survive at Dixon.
Also surviving are a brother, Seth Isaac Bilyeu of the home; two
sisters, Amber Coren Bilyeu and Jenna Lee Bilyeu, of the home; his
maternal grandparents, Harley and Erma Johnson of Dixon; and his
maternal great-grandparents, Basil and Lola Howser of Barnett.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Dixon Church
of Christ with Bro. Rick Blackburn officiating, assisted by Bro. Robert
Heil and Bro. Charles Pitts. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery near
Dixon under the direction of Birmingham-martin Funeral Home of Dixon.

John Junior Rekus, 73, of Kaiser died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1991 at Lake of
the Ozarks General Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born May 6, 1918 in
Rutledge to John and Carrie Golbricht Rekus. On Oct. 27, 1945 he was
married at Agency to Dixie Guinn, who survives at the home. Mr. Rekus
had lived and farmed in the Colony community of Knox County until 1968
when he moved to Lake Ozark where he was a partner in ownership and
management of Ozark Village Resort. For the past eight years he had
worked at Arnold’s Gift Shop in Osage Beach. He was a member of the
Riverview Baptist Church at Osage Beach.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rekus is survived by a son, Roger Rekus of
Iberia; a daughter, Linda Glasgow of Republic; a sister, Roberta
Hamstreet of Ottumwa, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Riverview Baptist
Church with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be at 2
p.m. Friday at Harmony Grove Cemetery near Colony under the direction of
Stevinson-Mossman funeral Home at Iberia.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church and from
non to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Colony Baptist Church. Memorials may be made
to the Riverview Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.

Elizabeth Wittmann, 87, of St. Elizabeth, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1991
at St. Elizabeth Care Center in ST. Elizabeth. She was born Oct. 31,
1903 in St. Elizabeth to Frank and Annie Wilde Duebbert. On June 4,
1927 she was married in Normandy, Mo. to Jokshan Wittman, who died April
23, 1976.
Mrs. Wittmann lived most of her life in St. Louis where she was a cook
for Schapleigh Hardware Co. for 16 years and a baker for Bishop DuBourg
High School for 15 years. She moved back to St. Elizabeth following her
retirement in 1971. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic
Church in St. Elizabeth and the St. Ann’s Sodality.
Surviving her are a son, Giles Wittmann of St. Louis; a daughter,
Patricia Sinopole of Marthasville; nine grandchildren; and 14
great-grandchildren.
The rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday at Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home
in St. Elizabeth. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the
St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with Rev. John Degnan
officiating. Burial was in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Glee Colvin, 67, of Iberia died Sunday, March 24, 1991 at Still Regional
Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born Dec. 24, 1923 at Brumley
to Clayton and Ollie Shelton Witt. On Dec. 13, 1941 she was married to
Sterling Colvin, who died May 15, 1976.
Mrs. Colvin was a life-long resident of Miller County. For 17 years she
was a seamstress at L.B. Manufacturing in Iberia, retiring in 1986. She
was a member of Glover Chapel Church of Christ near Richland.
Surviving her are two sons, Gary Colvin and Timothy Colvin, both of
Iberia; two daughters, Joyce Rodden and Gloria Lenox, both of Brumley; a
brother, Clay Witt of Montreal; a sister, Hazel Robinett of Brumley; 12
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stevinson-Mossman
Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Farris Wall officiating. Burial was in
the Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.

Rozenna E. “Rose” Brumley, 62 of Eldon died Friday, March 12, 1993, at
her home. She was born Sept. 15, 1930, at Eldon to Charles and Gertrude
Spratt Spurgeon. On Sept. 6, 1968, she was married in Eldon to Junior
W. Brumley, who survives at the home.
Mrs. Brumley was a seamstress in the custom drapery business for many
years and she recently had been employed by Casey’s General Store in
Eldon. She was a member of the Old Path Baptist Church near Eldon.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Judy Bridgewater
of Hooks, Tex.; five sons, Calvin Basham of Texarkana, Ark., Dwayne
Basham and Bruce Anderson of Eldon, David Basham of Owens, N.C., and
Danny Brumley of the home; two step-daughters, Donna Albertson of Eldon
and Pamela Jenkins of Tuscumbia; a brother, Bob Spurgeon of St. Louis; a
sister, Vivian Blunkall of Wichita, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stevinson-Mossman Funeral
Home in Iberia with the Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial was in
Mt. Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Bertie E. Patterson, 91, of Springfield died Wednesday, March 10, 1993
at her home. She was born Feb. 7, 1902, near Brumley to James D. and
Joe Ann Story. On August 25, 1917, she was married to George H.
Patterson, who died April 5, 1967.
Surviving her are five children, James W. “Mac” Patterson of O’Fallon,
Ill.; Alfro Patterson, Vivian Bender, Lowell Patterson and Carl
Patterson, all of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Long Funeral Home with
Raymond McClary officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery.

Beth M. Call, 12, of Jefferson City died Wednesday, June 23, 1993, at
Still Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City after an automobile
accident. She was born Aug 15, 1980, at Jefferson City to Richard and
Mary Beth Mueller Call. Her mother survives at the home. Her father
died as the result of the same accident.
A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, Beth recently completed the
seventh grade at the Immanuel Lutheran School at Honey Creek where she
played on the volleyball team and was a cheerleader. She was a member
of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Kids in Christ Youth Group. She
attended th Jefferson City Dance Academy and played softball in the
summer league.
Other survivors include a sister, Heather N. Call of the home; her
paternal grandparents, William Robert and Mary Call of Eugene; and her

Daniel Z. Call, 14, of Jefferson City died Wednesday, June 23, 1993, at
the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia as the result of
injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was born May 2, 1979,
in Jefferson City to Richard and Mary Beth Mueller Call. His mother
survives at the home. His father died as the result of the same
accident.
A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, Daniel graduated from Immanuel
Lutheran School at Honey Creek where he played on the basketball team.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Kids in Christ Youth
Group. He also played baseball in the Jefferson City Babe Ruth Baseball
League.
Surviving him are a sister, Heather N. Call of the home; his paternal
grandparents, William Robert and Mary Call of Eugene; and his maternal
grandmother, Dorothy Mueller of Honey Creek. A sister, Beth Call, died
as a result of the same accident.

Richard C. “Dick” Call, 37, of Jefferson City died Wednesday, June 23,
1993, at Still Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City of injuries
suffered in an automobile accident. He was born Nov. 19, 1955, in
Jefferson City to William Robert and Mary Williams Call, who survive at
Eugene. On Oct. 16, 1976, he was married at Honey Creek to Mary Beth
Mueller, who survives at the home.
Mr. Call was a lifelong resident of Central Missouri. He was a 1973
graduate of Cole County R-5 High School at Eugene. He served in the
Missouri Army National Guard for six years. He was employed as a
carpenter for many years and at the time of his death was employed by
Ray-Jac Construction Company. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran
Church at Honey Creek where he had several offices. He currently was a
member of the board of elders and sang in the church choir. He also was
a member of Carpenters Local 945.
Other survivors include a daughter, Heather N. Call of the home; seven
brothers, Bill Call, James Call and Charles Call, all of Jefferson City,
Raymond Call and Michael Call of Henley, Ronald Call of Eugene and David
Call of California, Mo.; and a sister, Linda Hood of Eugene. Two
children, Beth M. Call and Daniel Z. Call died as a result of the same
accident.

William A. Schwaller, 76, of Mary’s Home died Monday, June 28, 1993, at
his home. He was born April 27, 1917, at Mary’s Home to Anton and
Jennie Sanning Schwaller. He was married July 25, 1939, to Alvina
Jurgensmeyer, who died Feb. 10, 1983. On Oct. 1, 1983, he was married
to Harriet Downs, who survives at the home.
Mr. Schwaller was a lifetime resident of the Mary’s Home community. He
was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church at Mary’s Home and
the Mary’s Home Knights of Columbus. He was president of the St.
Elizabeth Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Schwaller was a farmer and for
several years was a salesman for the ST. Louis Globe Democrat.
A lifelong Republican, Mr. Schwaller served as an alternate delegate at
the 1976 Republican National Convention in Kansas City and he was an
elector for the first Regan presidency.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Schwaller is survived by two sons, Tom
Schwaller of Huntsville, Ala., and Robert Schwaller of Mary’s Home;
three daughters, Mary Raymond of Mesa, Ariz., Carol Sexton of
Westerville, Ohio, and Jennie Cronkhite of Morehead, Minn.; two sisters,
Blondine Frank of Eldon and Ermine Jurgensmeyer of Jefferson City; and
15 grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Philips Funeral Home
Mary’s Home Chapel. The rosary was prayed at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the
Snows Catholic Church in Mary’s Home with Father John Schutty
officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Jefferson City and
Mid-Missouri, 212 Jackson, Jefferson City, or to Our Lady of the Snows
Catholic Church at Mary’s Home.

Charles Howard Curtman, 70, of Eldon died Thursday, March 7, 1991 at
Columbia. He was born Feb. 27, 1921 near Brays in southern Miller
County to William Frederick and Mary Emma Patterson Curtman. In 1945 he
was married to Doris Wall. On Dec. 29, 1973 he was married to Virginia
Squires, who survives.
Mr. Curtman was retired from the Waynesville School District, where he
had been employed for 13 years. He was a resident of Crocker for 20
years before moving to Eldon two years ago. He was a navy veteran of
World War II and had been employed by the City of St. Louis for many
years before moving to Crocker.
Other survivors include seven sons, Steve and Ronnie Squires of
Columbia, Wayne Squires of Fulton, Terry Squires of Pittsburg, Kan.,
Bill Taylor of Woodruff, S.C., Darren Curtman of Phoenix, Ariz. And
Randy Curtman of Swartz Creek, Mich.; six daughters, Joanie Camp of
Phoenix, Ariz., Janie Johnson of Iberia, Winnie Thomas of Plant City,
Fla., Cheri Black of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeanie Elliott and Pamela Vann
both of Eldon; four brothers, Guy Curtman of Sunrise Beach, Dean Curtman
of Iberia, Bill and Larry Curtman of Crocker; two sisters, Illene Smith
of Livermore, Calif., and Geneva Thompson of Omaha, Nebr.; 32
grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Colonial Funeral Chapel.
Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Eldon.

Jimmy Lynn Jones, 39, of Eldon died Sunday, June 27, 1993, in a traffic
accident that occurred two miles south of Tuscumbia on Missouri 17. He
was born Sept. 13, 1953, in Kansas City, Kan., to Jesse L. Jones, who
survives at Russellville, and Lula Hopper Jones, who survives at
Moberly. Mr. Jones was employed as a supervisor with Pheasant Concepts.
Surviving him in addition to his parents are a son, Jesse Jones of
Barnett; two daughters, Vanessa Jones and Brandi Jones, both of Barnett;
a sister, Cleta Curtis of Moberly; and a half-sister, Carlene Dalton of
Eldon.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home
in Eldon with the Rev. Jerry Frye officiating. Burial was in Enloe
Cemetery near Russellville.

David E. Atchison, 47, of Liberty died Sunday, June 13, 1993. He was
born May 10, 1946, in St. Louis to Erwin J. and La Verne Wilhelm
Atchison. His mother survives in St. Louis. He was married Nov. 3,
1973, in St. Louis to Carla M. Doerhoff, who survives at the home.
Mr. Atchison was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in Vietnam. He
was a hydraulic technician for Fleet Body Equipment in Kansas City. He
was a member of the National Hot Rod Association. He was a member of
Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Smithville.
Other survivors are a daughter, Kimberly A. Atchison of the home; three
brothers, Michael Atchison and Thomas Atchison of St. Louis and Daniel
Atchison of San Francisco, Calif.; and two sisters, Patricia Dobbs of
Valley Park and Margaret of St. Louis. He was a son-in-law of Lambert
and Gladys Doerhoff of St. Anthony.
Services were held at 10 a.m. June 18 at Good Shepherd Church in
Smithville with the Rev. Bernard Branson officiating. Burial was in
Paradise Cemetery in Clay County.

Marl O. Houser, son of Mrs. A. W. McNally of Wapato, Wash., died Sunday
night Oct. 22, in the hospital at Mare Island, California, where he had
been confined for a week. His illness was a complication of a chest
injury sustained several months ago.
Born in Planville, Kans., May 23, 1915, Houser had made his home in the
Wapato community until he joined the navy nine years ago. He was a
graduate of Wapato high school. Members of his family are his widow,
Mrs. Vella Houser of Vallejo, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. McNally; his
father, Ed Houser of Caldwell, Ida.; three brothers, Kenneth of Seattle,
Ralph of Eugene, Ore., and Harry of Yakima, Wash., and a half-sister,
Lina Jane Houser of Caldwell, Ida.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, Oct. 30 at the chapel of
the Sourwine-Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, with the Rev. F. W. Goff
the officiating minister.
Mrs. Houser and her mother accompanied the body to Wapato from
California. Mr. Houser has many relatives in this and adjoining
counties and his parents are well known by many people here.

The body of Edgar Spearman, veteran of the First World War, who passed
away in a private hospital at Colorado Springs, Colo., on Monday, Oct.
30, arrived here Wednesday afternoon of last week. The place of his
birth, and burial was Thursday afternoon in the Iberia Cemetery, with
graveside services conducted by the American Legion.
Funeral services were held at the Adams & Casey Funeral Parlors in
Iberia, Missouri, for Edgar Spearman Thursday, November 2, at 2:30 p.m.,
Rev. W. Burd, officiating. Following this service, the American Legion
performed graveside services before interment in the Iberia Cemetery.
His aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Workman, was not able to attend
the funeral. At her request the body was taken to the old home place
west of Iberia where it remained Wednesday night.
Edgar passed away early Monday morning, October 30, in a Colorado
Springs Hospital, of a heart attack. During World War I he served
overseas for over a year. While in Germany he received injuries which
resulted in his spending the major part of the past 25 years in a
hospital.
His sister, Miss Ethel Spearman, from California, accompanied the body
from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Iberia, Missouri for burial.
Another sister, Miss Jo Ann Spearman, arrived from Ft. Smith, Arkansas
and met the body at Eldon. Mrs. Mable Workman Fancher, a half-sister
and her family attended the funeral. Oscar Spearman and James Workman
were unable to be present.
Edgar was born near Iberia, Mo., Nov. 24, 1893; died at Colorado
Springs, Colo., Oct. 30, 1944.

W. S. Luttrell, prominent resident of the Watkins community, passed away
at his home Wednesday, October 18, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and
23 days. Mr. Luttrell was born August 24, 1864, the son of Henry and
Celia Luttrell, who preceded him in death a number of years ago.
He was united in marriage to Mrs. Nancy Dunnahay about 60 years ago. To
this union were born twelve children, namely: Mrs. Sophia Wall, Wapato,
Wash., Mrs. Isaac Luttrell, of Hawkeye, Mo., Miss Rosa of near Iberia,
Mrs. Julius Olander of St. Louis, Mrs. Olia Whittle of Iberia, Mrs.
Jesse Sons of Brumley, Mrs. Bert Strutton of San Francisco, Calif., and
Mrs. Albert Luttrell of Iberia, and four others who preceded him in
death in infancy. His first companion passed away March 13, 1908.
Later he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Karr, on January 27, 1910.
To this union seven children were born, namely, Lola, Pauline, Rawl and
Lee of the home; Alonzo and Robert of the armed services. Alonzo is in
Fort Lewis, Wash., and Robert in Belgium and at the time of his father's
passing was unable to be here.
Just before Mr. Luttrell passed away he spoke of wanting to see Bob. He
also had two step-children, Henry Dunnahay, who preceded him in death,
and Mrs. John Allee of Brumley. He is also survived by 47
grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren. He is the last of eight children, five
brothers and two sisters, George, Ben, Bluford, John Roe and Fannie
Pemberton and Jane Duncan. A host of other relatives and friends are
left to mourn his passing.
Regardless of how many of his friends came to visit him at once there
never was too many for him and he said, "They don't bother me." He bore
his suffering with great patience. All that loving hands and care could
do was done for him but all in vain.
He united with the Church of Christ at Mt. Union a number of years ago
and his membership always remained there. He remained true to that
belief until the end. He was a kind husband and father and he had many
friends who loved him. He always was glad to lend a helping hand in
sickness and trouble and his many friends attest that he has been well
paid for what he had done for others.
Wm. F. Jones spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family at Mt. Union,
reading from Gen. 47 and 3 Cor. 5, taking for his key thought the words
of Pharoah to Jacob, "How old are Thou?" The funeral was held Friday
afternoon, Oct. 20, Burial was in Mt. Union Cemetery under direction of
Adams & Casey Funeral Home of Iberia.

Mary Katheryn Phillips Robinett was born in 1864, passed away November
2, 1944, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 22 days. She was born
near Brumley and had lived there all her life.
“Aunt Cat”, as she was better known by all her neighbors, friends and
relatives, was loved by everyone. She always had a saying “hi” and a
kind smile that long will be remembered by all who knew her.
She was married 60 years ago to Sammie Robinett, who died just two years
ago. To them six children were born, four of them dying while small,
two now living, who are Mrs. Dolph (Jane) Ash of Brumley, at whose home
she was at the time of her death, and Febie Ann, also of the home. She
leaves six grandchildren, Lena Mae Phillips of Tuscumbia, Bert and
Bernis Ash, who just returned from Wapato, Wash., one day before she
passed away, Thelma Ash of Richmond, Calif., Ernest and Farris of
Brumley; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Dema Phillips of
Brumley, one brother, Gravely Lace Phillips of Brumley.
Her religious faith was with the Baptist Church at Brumley.
The body lay in state at her home from Wednesday until Friday, where a
number of friends of the family came to pay their last respects.
Funeral services were held at Pension Ridge church with Rev. V. M. Smith
officiating. Burial was at Robinett Cemetery.

Mrs. Elbert Huddleston passed away Friday morning, Oct. 27, at her home
in Kaiser, Mo. The Huddleston family had lived there about a year.
They had lived in Eldon for 27 years and are well known throughout
Miller County. Her health has steadily failed for about five years.
She was seriously ill for three weeks preceding her death.
Stella C. Stubblefield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stubblefield, was
born February 17, 1886, at Ulman, Mo. She passed away October 27, 1944.
December 31, 1914, she was married to Elbert Huddleston. One son,
Leonard, was born to them. Mrs. Huddleston’s parents preceded her in
death several years ago.
Surviving her are her husband and her son, Leonard of the family home.
She leaves a sister, Mrs. Della Baker, of St. Louis, Mo., and one niece,
Mrs. R. A. Clark, of Jefferson City, Mo. Besides these loved ones, Mrs.
Huddleston leaves many relatives and friends all of whom will sadly miss
her.
In early life she became a Christian and has since that time lived the
life of a good, kind, faithful Christian woman. For a number of years
she was a member of the Eldon Christian Church. Later she became a
devout member of the New Hope Baptist Church where she remained faithful
through life. Mrs. Huddleston had been a member of the Royal Neighbors
of America for many years.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at New Hope
Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Wilson of Lebanon, Mo., in charge. At
the graveside a representative of the R. N. A. Lodge paid loving tribute
to the departed one, placing a spray of flowers on the grave. Interment
was made in New Hope Cemetery with Kays Funeral Service directors.

Beulah A. Drace, 67, of Iberia died Sunday, Dec. 29, 1991 at the Miller
County Nursing Home in Tuscumbia. She was born June 9, 1924 in Miller
County to Virgil and Ann Hill Wall. Her mother survives at Tuscumbia.
On Oct. 7, 1939 she was married at Iberia to Newell Preston Drace, who
died Oct. 26, 1972.
Mrs. Drace worked for a number of years at L.B. Manufacturing in Iberia
and later as an aide and cook at the Miller County Nursing Home at
Tuscumbia. She was a member of the Iberia First Assembly of God and the
American Legion Ladies Auxiliary at Iberia. She was a lifetime resident
of the Iberia area.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Drace is survived by a son, Preston
"Pete" Drace of Iberia; a daughter, Janet Lawrence of Iberia; a brother,
James Lewis Wall of Iberia; two sisters, Alpha Sacco of Osage Beach and
Doris Brown of Eldon; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Iberia First
Assembly of God with the Rev. Randall Hoffman officiating. Burial was
in the Iberia Cemetery under the direction of Stevinson-Mossman Funeral
Home in Iberia.

Judith Ann Secrest, 45, of Springfield, formerly of Iberia, died Monday,
March 18, 1991 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. She was born
Feb. 13, 1946 in Iberia to Newell and Beulah Wall Drace. Her mother
survives in Iberia. Mrs. Secrest was a 1964 graduate of Iberia High
School and had lived in the Springfield area for several years.
Other survivors are three sons, Gary, David and Tommy Secrest, all of
Springfield; a brother, Preston "Pete" Drace of Iberia; a sister, Janet
Lawrence of Iberia; and her maternal grandmother, Ann Wall of Iberia.

Shirley Marie Gaddy, 50, of Eldon died Tuesday, March 26, 1991 at Ellis
Fischel State Cancer Center in Columbia. She was born Dec. 1, 1940 at
Dixon to Walter and Zella Gertrude Thompson Veasman. Her mother
survives at Dixon.
Mrs. Gaddy worked at Iberia for a number of years. She had lived and
worked in the Lake Ozark-Osage Beach area for the past several years.
She was manager of Exotic Lingerie at Osage Beach.
Surviving her are two sons, Bill Hoff of Lee’s Summit and Chris Gaddy of
the home; a daughter, Sheila Scrivner of Barnett; John E. Veasman of
Newburg, Ind. and Doyle Veasman of Iberia; a sister, Connie Lawson of
Dixon; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stevinson-Mossman
Funeral Home in Iberia with the Rev. Dan Cuffle officiating. Burial
will be in the Iberia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9
p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Shirley
Gaddy Memorial Fund.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Church for
Oliver S. McDowell, a lifetime citizen of that vicinity. Rev. B. F.
Dinwiddie was in charge of the service. The Riverview Church choir sang
and friends helped with the floral arrangement. Pallbearers were six
cousins of the deceased. They were Green McDowell, George McDowell,
Arthur McDowell, Frank McDowell, Charles McDowell and William McDowell.
Interment was at New Hope Cemetery and other funeral arrangements were
directed by the Kays funeral Service of Eldon.
Oliver Sherman McDowell was the son of Leander and Sarah McDowell. He
was born in Camden County, but spent his life in Miller County. He
owned a farm near Tuscumbia at the time of death. Three weeks ago he
was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Walter Winfrey of Brumley.
His condition grew steadily worse until death claimed him November 16.
For several years he had fought a losing battle with health.
In early youth Mr. McDowell professed faith in Christ. He was a fine
citizen, honest and upright and well respected. He was widely known and
enjoyed many friends.
There were seven sisters and two brothers in the family, of which two
brothers and one sister are deceased. The surviving sisters are Mrs.
Waler Winfrey of Brumley; Mrs. Alsa Allison of Claremore, Okla.; Mrs.
Bethel Francis of Vallejo, Calif.; Mrs. Opal Cusick of Denver, Colo.;
Mrs. Ethel House of Kansas City; Mrs. Elsie Cusick of Kansas City. A
large number of close relatives and many friends also survive.

James William (Tom) Witt, well known resident of the Brumley community,
passed away at his home near there on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the age of 71
years, 6 months and 10 days. Mr. Witt was born March 29, 1872. He
obeyed the gospel early in life under the preaching of Eld. John
Henderson at Mt. Union, of which body he remained a faithful member
until death. He was united in marriage to Safronia Duncan Sept. 24,
1896, and to this union eight children were born. His wife and three
children preceded him to the spirit world.
He leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn his departure, namely:
Mrs. Tom Shelton, Everett Witt, Fred Witt, Belle Witt and Orville Witt,
all of the Brumley community; also one sister, Mrs. Ruthia Drouillard of
Wilmington, Calif., and one brother, George Witt, of San Diego, Calif.
There are eighteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and
friends who mourn his going.
He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, neighbors and
friends. All that skilled physicians and willing hands and loving
hearts could do was done but to no avail. After several years of
suffering, the Lord said, "It is enough, come up higher."
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, from the Mt.
Union Church of Christ, at which time the writer of this sketch tried to
speak words of comfort to the sorrowing ones. His mortal body was laid
to rest beside his companion who preceded him in death several years ago
there to await the sound of the trumpet of god when all the sleeping
nations of the dead will arise to stand in the presence of our loving
Master to give an account of what we have done, whether it be good or
bad. And now I want to say to sorrowing ones, let us bow our heads in
humble submission to him that doeth all things well and until that great
day let us say, "Dear father, dear brother, dear grandfather, farewell
until we meet again on that other and better shore where sorrow and

Mr. and Mrs. John Pemberton of this place received the sad news Monday
afternoon, announcing the death of their daughter, Mrs. Chester Sanders
and her infant babe born only a short time before. Mr. and Mrs.
Sanders, since their marriage a few years ago, have resided on a farm
near Paris, MO. Mrs. Sanders was taken to a hospital in Moberly, Mo., a
week or so ago to be under the care of special physicians and it was
there she departed this life together with her infant.
Mr. and Mrs. Pemberton, of this place and their daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. K.L. Burdon of St. Louis, left here Monday night to attend
the funeral, which we understand took place at the Sanders home near
Paris Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock.
Mrs. Sanders (nee Gladys Pemberton) is survived by her husband, parents
and three sisters, namely: Mrs. K. L. Burdon of St. Louis, and Mrs.
Norah Law and Mrs. Opal Davis of El Centro, Calif. The latter two
sisters were unable to attend the funeral, but we are informed that they
will arrive here latter part of the week.
The entire community joins in extending deep sympathy to the bereaved
husband, parents and sisters in their hour of sorrow. A complete

Louisiana W. Cochran
Miss Lucy Cochran passed away Friday night, Feb. 1, 1918; aged 60 years.
Aunt Lucy was loved by all who knew her. She leaves two brothers and
one sister: S. L. Cochran and W. G. Cochran of Miller County, and
Katherine Hinerson of Oklahoma, besides many relatives and friends to
mourn her death. Aunt Lucy was a devoted Christian for many years. She
was a member of the Church of Christ at Mount Union where she was buried
Sunday afternoon, February 3rd. The funeral services were conducted by
Rev. J. D. Thompson of Hawkeye, Mo. The services were very appropriate
and a large crowd of relatives and friends attended. We hope to meet

Funeral services were held Monday at the Mt. Zion Christian Church for
William Carroll Rodden, 79, of Tuscumbia. Mr. Rodden died Saturday,
June 24, 1972 at the Jones Boarding Home near Tuscumbia. The Rev. Mark
Sooter officiated at the services at 2 p.m.
Mr. Rodden, a retired farmer, was born Aug. 8, 1892 in Miller County to
the late Lindsey and Elizabeth Rodden. He was never married. He was a
veteran of World War I. Mr. Rodden was preceded in death by five
sisters and a brother.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Phillips
Funeral Home of Eldon.

The Rev. Mark Sooter, 79, Eldon, died Monday at the University of
Missouri Medical Center in Columbia. Rev. Sooter was minister at the
Mt. Zion, Fairview and Humphreys Creek and Campground Christian
Churches. He was born Feb. 9, 1896, at Ulman, the son of Charles and
Jane Carson Sooter. He was married Nov. 11, 1919, at Bagnell, to Lena
Burke, who survives.
From 1938 to 1947, he operated a grocery store in Kansas City. Also
before entering the ministry in 1956, he worked at the Rock Island
Railroad shops in Eldon and in Horton, Kan.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Geneva Varnell, Eugene;
Mrs. Lorraine Whitaker, Trenton; and Mrs. Rayma Nixdorf, Iberia; one
son, Mark J. Sooter, Eldon; one brother, the Rev. Menzo Sooter, St.
James; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mt. Zion Christian
Church at Tuscumbia. The Rev. Earl Wyrick, Rev. Sooter and Gene Edwards
will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Phillips
Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The body will lie in
state at the Mt. Zion Christian Church after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Obituary: Miller County Autogram-Sentinel, August 1957
John P. Allee, 84, of Iberia died Monday at the Humphreys Hospital,
Tuscumbia, where he had been a patient only a few days. Mr. Allee was a
well known farmer in the Iberia community for many years until ill
health forced him to retire. For the past few years, he and his wife
had lived in town.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clarence Wall of
Iberia, and two sons, Ora of Wilmington, California and Emery of
Oklahoma City, Okla. He is also survived by two sisters, Stella Hater
of Eldon and Artie Nichols of Oklahoma and two brothers, Horace of
Stoutland and William of California.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the
Curry Church with William F. Jones officiating. Burial will be in the
church cemetery with Hedges Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Miller County Autogram-Sentinel, October 1943
Ben Kroll, 60, Meta farmer, was killed Sunday morning as he walked down
the railroad tracks on his way to church. He was struck by a train a
short distance from a railroad crossing where his wife died several
years ago.
Mr. Kroll failed to hear the approaching train because of deafness. His
body was badly mangled.
Mrs. Kroll died several years ago when a car in which she and her
husband were riding was struck by a train. Mr. Kroll was seriously
injured in that wreck but had fully recovered.
Mr. Kroll was a native of St. Thomas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore
Kroll, and moved to Meta and had resided on a farm there for many years.
He was well known in that section. He was a member of the Meta parish
of the Catholic Church.
Surviving is a daughter, Miss Martha Kroll, who resides at the family
home. Funeral services were held Monday from the Meta Catholic Church.

Mrs. Opal Edith McCommons, Rte. 1, Ulman, died Friday, March 10, 1972 at
Charles E. Still Hospital, Jefferson City, where she had been a patient
40 days. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Mrs. McCommons' 73rd
birthday, at the Ulman Baptist Church.
She was born March 12, 1899 at Ulman, the daughter of the late Walter M.
and Ida Mae (Bass) Burks. On January 22, 1916 she was married at the
family home at Ulman to Albert R. McCommons. Mr. McCommons was in
construction work, and they moved frequently until returning to Ulman to
make their home in 1959. Mr. McCommons died Sept. 14, 1963. Mrs.
McCommons was a member of the Ulman Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Raymond Graham of Ulman; four
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Gail Burks of Iberia,
and one sister, Mrs. Glee Carico of Ulman.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ulman Baptist Church
with the pastor, the Rev. Charles Cox, officiating, assisted by Raymond
L. Bond. Burial was in Gott Cemetery under the direction of Phillips
Funeral Home of Eldon. Pallbearers were Albert Ray Graham, Harold Gene
Graham, Gary Graham, James Walter Burks, Jesse Flaugher, and Les Burris.

Funeral services were held Friday for Joseph Clinton Musick, son of
William Henry and Dicy Musick who was born on July 4, 1887 in Camden
County and died April 11, 1972 at his home in Ulman.
Joe Musick had lived his entire life in Camden and Miller Counties,
engaging in farming for several years. On Sept. 20, 1914, he was
married to Ethel Pierce. They were the parents of seven daughters and
three sons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel in 1963, and
one son, Perry Musick, who passed away at the age of 21 years.
Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Clara King of Tuscumbia, Mrs. Anna
Kincaid of St. Louis, Mable and Glota Musick, of the home, Mrs. Hellen
Morrison of Crocker, Mrs. Mary Witt of Eldon and Mrs. Billie Shelton of
Brumley; two sons, Almon (Shorty) Musick of Ulman and David James Musick
of Russellville; one brother, Basil Musick of Brumley; 22 grandchildren
and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services Friday were held at the First Baptist Church in Brumley
with the Rev. Selby Graham officiating. Interment was in the Hawkins
Cemetery near Brumley. Escorts were Bill Morrison, Kent Crane, Carl
Winfrey, Joe Bogart, Lester Pemberton, and John Kincaid. Funeral
services were under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home of Brumley.

Mrs. C. E. Wyrick, 53 years of age, passed away at her home six miles
south of Tuscumbia on highway 17, Wednesday morning at 4 o’clock, after
having suffered ill health for the past several years.
Mrs. Wyrick was born Miss Stella Clark, the daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Clark, on the farm where the Miller County Home is now
located. On April 14, 1907, she was united in marriage to Charles E.
Wyrick, and they had made their home since that time on the farm where
she died.
Mrs. Wyrick leaves the husband and seven children, Malachi and Arthur
Wyrick, of Kansas City, Kans.; Charles Wyrick of Fairbanks, Alaska;
Warren Wyrick somewhere in Australia; Mrs. Ethel Revele and Mrs. Mabel
Benzl of St. Louis; and Mrs. Opal Robinett of the home place. She is
also survived by two brothers, John Clark of Osage Beach and Barney
Clark of Sedalia, and four sisters, Mrs. Jewell Kennedy and Mrs. Harry
Thornsberry of the State of California, Mrs. Rig Patterson of Ulman and
Mrs. Eunice Stark of Pittsburg, Kans.
In early womanhood Mrs. Wyrick became a member of the Tuscumbia
Christian Church and lived true to this faith to the end. She was a
good wife and mother and was loved by all her neighbors and friends.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time, but probably will be held
Friday at the Mt. Zion Church.

Obituary: Miller County Autogram-Sentinel, (undated) Gave His Life For His Country
Staff Sergeant Bernard P. Holzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holzer,
entered military service August 27, 1942. He received his basic
training at Camp Wolters, Texas, was then assigned to the 134th
Infantry, 35th Division. He then trained in California, Camp Rucker,
Alabama, maneuvered in Tennessee. From there they trained in Camp
Butner, North Carolina and West Virginia. In April he went overseas and
was stationed in England until about the 1st of July when he went into
France. He saw service at the battle of St. Lo. He was first reported
missing on August 23rd, then reports came that he was killed on that
date.
Bernard P. Holzer was born near Henley in 1921 and was at the time of
his death 23 years of age. He was married Nov. 30, 1940 to Miss Irene
McDowell of Linn Creek. To this union one daughter, Rebecca, was born.
In addition to his wife and baby daughter and his parents, Bernard is
survived by three sisters, Lucy of the home, Mrs. Elizabeth Johns of
Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Mathilda Kliethermes of Bonnots Mill; three
brothers, Frank with the armed forces in Mississippi, Sylvester with the
armed forces in New Caledonia, and Leo of the home; many other relatives
and friends.

Roy H. Perkins, 74, of Iberia, died Saturday morning at a Jefferson City
hospital. A native of the Iberia area in Miller County, Mr. Perkins was
born July 12, 1897, the son of Melvin and Addaline Cross Perkins. On
Oct. 10, 1920, he was married to the former Miss Mae Mace, who survives.
For several years, Mr. Perkins was employed as a sanitary engineer at
Fort Leonard Wood. From 1960 until his retirement in 1963, he was
employed by the State Department of Health. An Army veteran of World
War I, Mr. Perkins was a member of the Iberia United Church of Christ,
Congregationalist Christian, where he served as a Sunday school
superintendent for 32 years.
He was also a member of Iberia Lodge No. 410, A.F. & A.M., Iberia
American Legion Post No. 105, Miller County Barracks No. 1441, Veterans
of World War I, and the Iberia Saddle Club.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Kirkwood; three
brothers, Willard Perkins and Arthur Perkins, both of Iberia, and Albert
Perkins, St. Louis, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, at the Iberia
United Church of Christ, Congregationalist Christian, with the Rev. Earl
Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Iberia Cemetery. Masonic
rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. today, at the Stevinson Funeral Home.
The Fort Leonard Wood Mortuary Team will conduct graveside rites.

Mrs. Violet Jean Sanning, 51, of Iberia, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1971,
at her home near Iberia. Mrs. Sanning was born April 30, 1920 in Miller
County near Iberia, the daughter of William and Martha (Steen)
Pemberton. She was married Oct. 19, 1940 to Leonard W. Meyers, who
preceded her in death on July 27, 1954. On Dec. 2, 1961 she was married
to Theodore Sanning at Mary’s Home.
Mrs. Sanning attended Brumley High School and Central Missouri State
College at Warrensburg. She lived in Miller County all of her life and
taught school in Pulaski and Miller Counties for several years. Mrs.
Sanning was a member of the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Crocker.
Survivors include her husband, Ted Sanning of the home; one son, Tommy
Meyers, of the home; two daughters, Beverly Meyers and Sheila Sanning,
both of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Mae Mace of Osage Beach, Mrs.
Edith Graham of Brumley, and Mrs. Vesta Harmon of Albuquerque, N.M.;
five brothers, Rector Pemberton of Richland, Raymond Pemberton of
Tonganoxie, Kan., John Pemberton of Iberia, Curtis Pemberton of Lee’s
Summit, and Clarence Pemberton of Tebbets.
The rosary was recited Sunday, at 8 p.m. at the Stevinson Chapel in
Iberia. Mass was held Monday at 10 a.m. at the St. Cornelius Catholic
Church with the Rev. Patrick H. Hoffmann officiating. Interment was in
Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley. Pallbearers were James Burks, Perry
Graham, Jr., Frank Pemberton, Duane Pemberton, Lester Pemberton, and
Darrell Pemberton.

A. Roy Holeyfield, 81, of Iberia, who had farmed in the Iberia area most
of his life, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1969, at the Pulaski County Memorial
Hospital in Waynesville. He had been an active member of the Iberia
Assembly of God Church for more than 40 years.
Mr. Holeyfield was born March 14, 1888 near Tuscumbia. On June 11, 1916
he was married to Cora Grady who survives at the home.
Also surviving are six sons, Arthur of Springfield, Jasper of Granite
City, Ill., Wayne and Paul of Shreveport, La., Glen of Honolulu, Hawaii,
and Gene of Little Rock, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. Grace Haynes, of
Shreveport, La.; 33 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Holeyfield were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the
Iberia Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Wilford David officiating.
Interment was in the Union Cemetery near Iberia under the direction of
Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Gail Lee Holeyfield,
Ernest Holeyfield, David Humphrey, Tom Humphrey, Douglas Brown, Richard

Services were today for Frank C. Harrison, 81, St. Elizabeth, who died
Sunday at St. Marys Health Center. He was born April 25, 1916, in

Jeanne Marie Karaianis, who survives at the home. An Army veteran of
World War II, he received the Purple Heart.

Lulu Bartholomew, 100, Princeton, Ill., died Saturday. She was born
Nov. 10, 1896, in Eldon, a daughter of Andrus C. and Grace McMillin
Adkins. She was married Nov. 8, 1932, in Eldon, to the Rev. Otis
Bartholomew, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of United Church of Christ, Princeton, and the W.C.T.V.
Club. She worked as a clerk at Landahal’s Store, Princeton.
She is survived by one foster daughter, Vera Joan Smith, Princeton; four
grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eldon City Cemetery.

Dorothy B. Howser, 88, Jefferson City, died Monday at Oak Tree Villas
Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Miller County, a daughter
of Howard E. “Dunk” and Margaret Jane Nibert Howser.
She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She taught in public
schools from 1929-1973, including 11 years at the School of the Osage.
She retired from the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

Gertrude Hawk, 88, Gladstone, died Monday at Woodbine Healthcare Center,
Gladstone. She was born Aug. 7, 1909, in Miller County, a daughter of
Tony and Minnie Nally Beard. She was married Feb. 27, 1927, in Capps,
to Jack L. Hawk, who died Jan 15, 1989.
She lived in Miller County most of her life. A homemaker, she was a
member of the Tuscumbia Assembly of God Church.

both of North Kansas City, and Bonnie Holtmeyer, Shawnee, Kan.; two

Beulah Apperson, 89, Eldon, died Tuesday at her home. She was born May
31, 1908, in Purvis Beach, a daughter of Shelvey and Arizona Vaughn
Cantwell. She was married May 5, 1928, in California, to Cecil Apperson
Sr., who died March 5, 1983.
She co-owned and operated the C & M Bargain Store near Eldon for several
years. She also worked as a clerk with Green Thumb.
Survivors include: two sons, Cecil Apperson Jr., Fulton, and Darrell
Apperson, Eldon; one daughter, Shirley Fisher, Memphis, Tenn.; two
brothers, Burleigh Cantwell, Eldon, and Brandt Cantwell, Blue Springs;
eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The

Myrtle Gwendola Turpin, 91, Jefferson City, died Friday at Capital
Region Medical Center-Southwest. She was born June 19, 1906, in Iberia,
a daughter of Andrew M. and Julia Ann Barlow Goforth. She was married
June 4, 1927, in Springfield, to Thomas Edward Turpin, who survives at
the home.
She attended school in Iberia and graduated from Waynesville High
School. She attended Kansas City Junior College, the University of
Missouri, the University of Colorado and the University of Montana. She
received a degree in education and taught school in Waynesville for many
years.
A member of first Christian Church, she served as president of her
circle and the CWF. She also belonged to Church Women United. She was
a member of Hanson Chapter 22 of the Order of the Eastern Star in
Waynesville for more than 60 years and served as worthy matron. She was
a lifetime member of the PTA and a member of the Parent Teachers
Association and the State Board PTA. She also served as president of
the Moreau Heights PTA and the Jefferson City PTA Council.
Other survivors include: one son, Dr. Thomas Jerry Turpin, Enid, Okla;
four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev.
Lawrence R. Veatch will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials are

Elizabeth B. Bock, 87, Meta, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Care Center.
She was born April 7, 1910, in Miller County, a daughter of Jarvis J.
and Narcisus Humphrey Howard. She was married in April 1941 in
Jefferson City to Louis Bernard Bock, who died Aug. 8, 1997. A
homemaker, she was a member of Meta Christian Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Larry Bock, Meta, and Robert Bock, Holts
Summit; one daughter, Clara Billo, Sun City West, Ariz.; seven
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leonard L. Schulte, 78, Eldon, died Wednesday at St. Marys Helath Center
(Jefferson City). He was born May 29, 1919, in Marys Home, a son of
Henry and Sophia Holzer Schulte. He was married April 28, 1945, in
Eldon, to Helen Heafey, who survives at the home.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a 50-year member of
the American Legion. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
and of the Miller County Historical Society. He worked for the poultry
department at the University of Missouri, retiring in 1978. He then
returned to Eldon and farmed.
Other survivors include: two sons, Daniel Schulte and Gerald Schulte,
both of Eldon; and four sisters, Nettie Smith, Ozark, Jennie Burrus,
Moberly, Alvina Kimberlin, St. Louis, and Lucy Williams, Colorado
Springs, Colo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The Rev. Hugh Behan will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral

Mabel Henderson, 90, Eldon, died Tuesday at St. Marys Health Center
(Jefferson City). She was born May 3, 1907, in Bagnell, a daughter of

Osage Beach. She is survived by one niece, Kathleen Kimble, Kansas
City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Randall Bunch and the Rev. Greg Bunn will officiate. Burial
will be in Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.

James Arthur “Jim” Pemberton, 92, Brumley, died Tuesday at his home. He
was born Oct. 29, 1905, in Brumley, a son of James M. and Martha Rutter
Pemberton. He was married Sept 1, 1932, in Miller County to Cloe
Phyllis DeVore, who survives at the home. A farmer, he was a member of
the Mount Union Church of Christ near Brumley.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Jo Anne Veasman, Waynesville;
one sister, Virginia Feak, Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren. One infant son, James Robert Pemberton, preceded
him in death.

St. Elizabeth to George C. Ewers, who died Nov. 29, 1964. A homemaker,
she was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony.

born April 23, 1913, in Eugene, a daughter of Alonzo and Eva May Witten
Simpson. She was married March 8, 1930, in Independence, to Robert Lee
Keeran, who died in 1982.
She was a homemaker and had worked over the years for pants, shoe and
tent factories. She was a member of the Ninth Street Christian Church,
Eldon.
Survivors include: one son, Bill Keeran, Windsor; two daughters, Mary
Claypole and Elwanda Holloway, both of Eldon; one brother, Carl Simpson,

to Joseph I. Crismon, who died Feb. 10, 1935.
A longtime resident of Miller County, she was employed as an inspector
with Glaser Brothers Clothing Manufacturing in Eldon before retiring in
1961. She was a member of First Christian Church, Eldon.

Virginia Nelson, Stover, and JoAnne Lynch, Stockton, Calilf.; one son,

James W. “Jim” Barnhart, 61, Eldon, died Saturday at Capital Region
Medical Center-Southwest. He was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Pond, a son of
Mark T. and Florence M. Crider Barnhart. He was married May 12, 1959,
in Tuscumbia, to Dorothy McDowell, who survives at the home.
He was employed with Griffin Wheel in Kansas City, Kan., for 31 years
and with Fasco in Eldon for six years before becoming disabled and
retiring. He was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: one son, James Robert Barnhart, Spring Hill,
Kan.; one daughter, Karen Atwell, De Soto, Kan.; seven brothers, Leo

Roger W. Stillwell, 84, Springfield, died Wednesday at Mercy Villa
Nursing Home, Springfield. He was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Tuscumbia, a
son of Walter S. and Lydia Caroline Fendorf Stillwell. He was married
June 2, 1940, in Springfield to Juanita Messersmith, who died Feb. 28,
1981.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of the University of
Missouri School of Law. He practiced law in Tuscumbia, and had an
abstract of title business there prior to retirement. He lived in
Tuscumbia and Eldon before moving to Springfield in 1993. He is
survived by one sister, Mary Hagener, Springfield.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips funeral Home. The Rev.
Peg Boten Haub will officiate. Burial will be in Tuscumbia Cemetery.

The subject of this sketch, Ellen V. Sullivan (Graham), was born
January 13, 1837, and died in Ulman of Dropsey of the heart, Sept 16, 1916.
She was united in marriage to Taylor Sullivan January 31, 1861. To this
union eleven children were born. H. M. Sullivan of Ulman, Mo., Mrs. B. A.
Ulman of Ulman, Mo., J. T. Sullivan, Excelsior Springs Mo., R. C. Sullivan,
of Kansas City, Mo., G. G. Sullivan of Jefferson City, Mo., Mrs. I. T.
Markle of Jefferson City., Mrs. O. H. Hickman of Roswell, NM., Mrs. Minnie
Wilson of Spokane, WA. Her Husband and three children preceded her to the
great beyond.
She united with the Christian church about 30 years ago and lived a
faithful member till her death. Besides 27 grandchildren and 9 great
grandchildren, there is a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
But what is their loss is Heavens gain. The funeral was conducted at the M
E church by Brother Jim Hawkins of Brumley, and the remains were laid beside
her husband at the family burying ground. (there are some words of comfort
and the writer was Mrs. Nora Sullivan.)

Chapter No. 496, Order of the Eastern Star, and White Shrine. She was a
housewife.

who died on Sept 25, 1960.
A life-long resident of Central Missouri, she attended school in Eldon.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and the auxiliary of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three daughters, Catherine Mardell Spurlock,
Columbia, Geraldine Lehman, Mokane, and Bernadine Louis Thompson,

Homer William Edwards, 73, Jefferson City, died Friday at St. Marys
Health Center (Jefferson City). He was born July 12, 1922, at
Tuscumbia, a son of Louis M. and Flossie B. Varner Edwards. He was
married on June 1, 1965, at Tuscumbia, to Elizabeth C. Haberberger, who
survives of the home.
He attended the Tuscumbia schools. He served 20 years in the Navy from
1942 to 1962, including service in World War II and the Korean War. He
was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign
Wars, Post No. 1003, and Fleet Reserve No. 380. He was employed with
the Missouri Department of Corrections until his retirement.

A graduate of Olean High School, he worked as a meat cutter for Krogers
in Jefferson City, Fulton and Flat River. He was a member of the Eldon
Church of Christ and was a retired farmer.

Kansas City. She worked 20 years at Intercollegiate Press in Mission,
Kan. She returned in 1976 to Eldon, where she was a stock clerk at
Wal-Mart from 1977 until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of
Aurora Springs Baptist Church, near Eldon.
Survivors include: two sons, Don Hutchison, Eldon, and John Hutchison,

Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. He was born March 24, 1932, in
Eldon, a son of George and Etta Howser Stark.
He was employed as a machinist by Fansteel, North Chicago, Ill., until
his retirement in 1989. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Amvets. He was a lifetime member
of Aurora Springs Baptist Church, near Eldon.
Survivors include: three sons, George Stark, Macon, William Stark,
Racine, Wis., and Michael Stark, Lake Geneva, Wis.; four sisters, Lena
Flaugher and Louise Cole, both of Eldon, Hazel Inman, California, and
Erma Brines, Warrensburg; eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Gene Cain will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in
Dooley Cemetery, Eldon. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

Gertrude M. Schwaller, 95, Marys Home, died Saturday at the Capital
Region Medical Center Still Campus. She was born Nov. 14, 1899, in
Miller County, a daughter of Peter J. and Margaret Braun Iven. She was
married on July 5, 1927, at Marys Home to Andrew H. Schwaller who died
on Feb. 4, 1969.
Mrs. Schwaller was a lifelong resident and homemaker in the Marys Home
community. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church
and the Legion of Mary and Altar Sodality.
Survivors include: one son, Bernard Sdchwaller, Eugene; three
daughters, Rita Meller, Lohman, Frances Adrian, Eugene, and Mary Amos,
Oakton, Va.; 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Snows
Catholic Church, Marys Home with the Rev. William Korte officiating.
Burial will be in Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon. Rosaries will
be prayed at 4 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Our
Lady of the Snows School.

Anna Faye Groose, 75, Henley, died Sunday at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Etterville, a daughter of Charles F. and
Ethel Pansey Kitchell Graham. She was married Sept. 27, 1947, in Eldon,
to Arthur F. “Dock” Groose, who died Nov. 11, 1965.
She was employed by Chesebrough-Ponds Inc. until her retirement. She
was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Marys Home, and
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2442, Ladies Auxiliary, Eldon.
Survivors include: three sons, Jerry Groose, Patrick Groose and Robert
Groose, all of Henley; two daughters, Nancy Bell, Osage Beach, and Donna
Schulte, Henley; two sisters, Fannie Schuler, Kansas City, Kan., and
Beatrice Cooper, Liberty; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic
Church. The Rev. William Korte will officiate. Burial will be in Our
Lady of the Snows Cemetery, Marys Home.
Visitation will be from3-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon,
with rosaries at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Perry L. Flaugher, 81, Eldon, died Friday at his home. He was born Nov.
11, 1913, in Ulman, the son of Henry and Pearl Robison Flaugher. He was
married June 5, 1937, near Tuscumbia, to Juanita Ramsey, who survives of
the home.
He attended First Church of the Nazarene, Eldon. He was a resident of
Edwardsville, Ill., from 1950 to 1987. He was employed with American
Steel in Granite City, Ill., for 37 years, retiring in 1975. He moved
to the Eldon area where he has been a resident for the past eight years.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gerald Flaugher and Larry Flaugher,
both of Edwardsville, Ill.; two brothers, Lloyd Flaugher, Eldon, and
Iven Flaugher, Peoria, Ill.; one sister, Dorothy Hobelman, Union; and
three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Jerry Frye and the Rev. Richard Unger will officiate. Burial will
be at Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to Family Life Center at First Church of the
Nazarene, Eldon.
