Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Saturday, April 12, 1997
Graveside services with military honors were held Saturday in Greenmore
Memorial Garden Cemetery, Barnett, for Otis Lee Jobe, Jr., 76, Kansas
City, who died Friday at St. Lukes Hospital North. He was born Dec. 1,
1920, in Eldon, a son of Otis Lee Sr. and Florence Thompson Jobe. His
mother, Florence O. Lindsey, survives in Kansas City, Kan. He was
married to Elizabeth Ann Walker, who survives at the home.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was head of the Animal Research
Department at Kansas University Medical Center. He was a member of the
American Legion and the Church of Christ, Versailles. Other survivors
include: two sons, Mark Lee Jobe, Lee’s Summit, and Otis Lee Jobe III,
San Francisco; one daughter, Marilyn Lee Stocker, Irvine, Calif.; and
six grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home,
Versailles.

Jack L. Strange, 65, Eldon, died Saturday at his home. He was born Jan
24, 1932, in Bagnell, a son of Basil Strange and Mabel Russell. He was
married June 2, 1967, in Eldon to Wilma Keeth Howk, who survives at the
home.
An Army veteran, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the
Korean Conflict. He owned and operated an auto salvage business near
Eldon from 1958 to 1967. He also owned and operated Strange’s Service
Station and Wrecker Service in Eldon for several years.
He was a former Miller County deputy sheriff and Lake Ozark city
patrolman. He was president of the board of trustees for Dooley
Cemetery for more than 10 years. He also was well-known in Mid-Missouri
as a stock car driver.
Other survivors include: three sons, Keeth Strange, Johnnie Strange and
Jackie Strange, all of Eldon; one stepson, Kenny Howk, Jefferson City;
one brother, Nelson E. Strange, La Habra, Calif., and seven
grandchildren. One son, Jimmie Strange, died Aug 2, 1982.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Phillilps Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Jerry Frye will officiate. Burial will be in Dooley Cemetery,
Eldon. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, Monday, April 21, 1997
Robert L. Perkins, 69, Iberia, died Saturday at St. Marys Health Center
(Jefferson City). He was born Dec. 26, 1927, in St. Louis, a son of
Elmer C. and Jessie Lee Irwin Perkins. He was married Aug 24, 1952, in
Advance, to Norma Bess Rehm, who survives at the home.
A 1947 graduate of Iberia Academy, he graduated from the University of
Missouri-Columbia in 1950. He was a cattleman, and owned Perkins
Chevrolet, Iberia, until his retirement. He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of Iberia Congregational Christian Church, where he
served as chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a member and past
master of Iberia Masonic Lodge 410 AF & AM, a member of Abou Ben Adhem
Shrine, a charter member and past president of the Iberia Lions Club and
a board member of Bank of Iberia.
He served on the Board of Regents of Central Missouri State University,
Warrensburg, from 1981 to 1987. He was a member of Miller County Alumni
Chapter of the University of Missouri, and served on the Lake of the
Ozarks General Hospital Board and the Iberia Board of Education.
Other survivors include: two sons, Dennis Perkins and Steve Perkins,
both of Iberia; two daughters, Susan LeAnn Comens, Chesterfield, and
Patty Schulte, Bagnell; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The
Rev. Wayne Cogell and the Rev. Ellis Livingston will officiate. Burial
will be in Iberia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today with
a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Iberia
Congregational Christian Church.

Lyman C. Enloe Sr., 91, Lee’s Summit, formerly of Olean, died Saturday
at Park Place Care Center, Raytown. He was born March 14, 1906, in
Olean. He was married to Myrtle Enloe, who died in 1980.
A resident of the Kansas City area since 1946, he was a self-employed
painter. He was a member and a deacon at Olean Baptist Church. He was
a master musician and 1995 recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship
Award. He was a member of the Bluegrass Music Association and the
S.P.G.M.A.
Survivors include: one son, Lyman Enloe Jr., Kansas City; seven
daughters, Geneva Horak, Betty Uhlig, Karen Case and Judy Snider, all of
Raytown, Helen Short, Castro Valley, Calif., Audrey Belt, Kansas City,
Kan., and Donna Melching, Galesburg, Kan.; 22 grandchildren, 32
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Enloe Cemetery,
Russellville. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Enloe Cemetery,
Russellville. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today at Carson
Funeral Home, Kansas City.

Charles W. Mitchem, 75, Eldon, died Monday at Capital Region Medical
Center-Southwest. He was born Aug 8, 1921, in Schell City, a son of
Charlie and Oma Lee Cox Mitchem. He was married June 10, 1942, in
Nevada, to Clara Bell Osborne, who died Aug. 12, 1978. He was married
Feb 2, 1989, in Eldon to Rosa Ann Hull, who survives at the home.
He worked as a cattle buyer for Swift and Co. in Rochell, Ill. He moved
to Eldon 12 years ago. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church,
Eldon.
Other survivors include: one son, Raymond Mitchem, Nevada; one
daughter, Lee Stroer, Nevada; two brothers, Bud Mitchen, Nixa, and
Everett Mitchem, Nevada; one sister, Dorothy Lions, El Dorado Springs;
eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Griswold-Kays Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Terry Grebing will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3
p.m. Friday at Newton Cemetery, Nevada. Visitation will be from 4-8
p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Lucille Buster, 89, Eldon, died Tuesday at St. Marys Health Center. She
was born Feb. 4, 1908, in Cooper County, a daughter of Sherman and
Mollie Crisman Chenault. She was married June 26, 1926, in Kansas City,
to Ward L. Buster, who died Oct. 19, 1994.
She was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. Marys Health Center for 20
years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Willing Workers
Extension Club and the Senior Citizens Club, all in Jefferson City.
Survivors include: two sons, Ron Buster, Eldon, and the Rev. Bob
Buster, Eagle River, Alaska; one daughter, Maxine Baird, Engelwood,
Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, Jefferson City. Visitation
will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the American
Heart Association or the Spinal Cord Injury Association.

Eliza Boyd, 79, Eldon, died Wednesday at Eldon Health Care Center. He
was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Dixon, a son of Edward and Cecil Clive Clark
Boyd. He was married Nov. 29, 1938, in Tuscumbia, to Mary L.
Shackleford, who survives in Eldon.
He was a Miller County resident most of his life, living in Eldon since
1948. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a
corrections officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Darlene Lund, Oklahoma City; one
son, Ernest Boyd, Topeka, Kan.; one brother, Ellis Boyd, California; one
sister, Maude Simpson, Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Humphrey’s Creek Christian
Church. The Rev. Ed Luebbering will officiate. Burial will be in
Lawson Cemetery, Iberia. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at

Helen J. Hicks, 81, Eldon, died Sunday at her home. She was born Nov.
17, 1915, in Miller County, a daughter of Charles W. and Lena Graham
Dorl. She was married Nov. 6, 1937, in Miller County, to Raymond Hicks,
who died March 6, 1975.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and had
attended the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.
Other survivors include: three sons, James Hicks, Versailles, Kenneth
Hicks, Camdenton, and Gerald Hicks, Eldon; four daughters, Alma Duncan,
Barbara Jean Duncan and Ruby Morgan, all of Eldon, and Ruby Morgan,
Barnett;* one sister, Ruby Thompson, Eldon; and a number of
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
son, Darrell Lee Hicks.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
The Rev. Eldon Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery, Eldon. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral

George Ezra Hopkins, 88, Eldon, died Wednesday at Ozark Care Center,
Osage Beach. He was born Sept. 27, 1908, in Linn Creek, a son of George
W. and Ida Mae Patterson Hopkins. He was married Aug. 4, 1926, in Old
Linn Creek, to Dorothy Irene Barker, who died Feb 18, 1979.
He lived in Eldon since 1926, and was a self-employed trucker until his
retirement. He was a member of First Christian Church, Eldon.
Survivors include: one son, Ray Edgar Hopkins, Blue Springs; two
daughters, Eileen Louise Williams, Osage Beach, and Dorothy Mae Rea,
Kansas City; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Two
infant sons preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Nora D. Jobe, 85, Kansas City, Kan., died Sunday at Laurie Knolls,
Laurie. She was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Eldon, a daughter of Leslie and
Dollie Harbison Miller. She was married May 8, 1930, to Edward Jobe,
who died May 23, 1963. She was a homemaker and a member of First
Christian Church, Armadale.
Survivors include: one son, Steve Jobe, Apple Valley, Calif.; four
daughters, Dollie Licklider, Lenexa, Kan., Juanita Johnson, Gravois
Mills, Wanda Bustamante, Topeka, Kan., and Judi Robinson, St. Louis; one

Nova B. Land, 86, Tuscumbia, died Sunday at Capital Region Medical

Livonia Martin. She was married March 8, 1930, to Harley Humphrey, who
died Jan 21, 1976. She was married Feb. 26, 1977, in Boonville, to J.
H. Land, who survives at the home.
She owned and operated Humphreys Antique Shop, near Tuscumbia, and
raised Collies and Shetland sheepdogs. She attended the Assembly of God
Church, Boonville.
Other survivors include: three half-sisters, Patricia King Jerrigan,
Albany, Ore., Nina King Rapabaugh, Tucson, Ariz., and Phyllis King
Garrett, Frontier Saskatchewan.

Tennyson F. Patterson, 87, Ulman, died Tuesday at Lake of the Ozarks
General Hospital, Osage Beach. He was born May 21, 1909, in Ulman, a
son of Fred and Minnie Lupardus Patterson. He was married May 30, 1932,
in Waynesville, to Nita J. Stone, who survives at the home.
He was an elder of the Ulman Christian Church and served as Sunday
school secretary/treasurer for more than 50 years. He managed the MFA
Exchange in Ulman for many years. He owned and operated Pat’s Market in
Ulman, and retired from Carl’s Market in Osage Beach.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Myna McGowin, Ulman; three
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ulman Christian Church. The Rev.

Fannie V. Wright, 86, Jefferson City, died Sunday at Jefferson City
Manor Care Center. She was born Nov. 30, 1910, in Eldon, a daughter of
Frank H. and Etta Cox Kirby. She was married Sept. 9, 1961, in
California, to Benjamin Wright, who died March 6, 1983.
She attended schools in Eldon. She worked for International Shoe
Company until her retirement in 1969. She was a member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include: one sister, Alline Whitener, Jefferson City, and one
brother, Donald F. Kirby, Jefferson City.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery (Jefferson City). Visitation will

John D. Miller, 35, Olean, died Friday at his home. He was born March
23, 1962, in Tuscumbia, a son of Rollin and Ruby Houston Miller. His
parents survive in Eldon.
He served in the Navy and was employed as a certified welder for many
years, most recently with Delta USA Corp. in Eldon. He was studying to
obtain an associate’s degree in computer science at Metro Business
College in Jefferson City.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Tiffany Miller, Eldon; one
brother, Danny Miller, Eldon; two sisters, Stacy Pemberton, Eldon and
Susan Harvey, Columbia; his maternal grandmother, Nancy Houston, Eldon;
and his fiancée, Tammy Miller, Eldon.

Irene Anna McDowell, 76, Jefferson City, died Saturday at St. Marys
Health Center (Jefferson City). She was born June 25, 1920, in St.
Anthony, a daughter of Alphonse and Wilhemina Wilbers Lueckenotte. She
was married May 5, 1944, in Jefferson City to Henry W. McDowell, who
survives at the home.
She attended Trinity Lutheran School and was a member of Trinity
Lutheran Church and the Trinity Lutheran Alumni Association. A
homemaker, she also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans
Auxiliary.
Other survivors include: one son, Gary Lee McDowell, Springfield; two
sisters, Celia McDowell and Agnes Ruether, both of Jefferson City; and
four grandchildren.

Berneice King Kuoppala, 79, Tuscumbia, died Friday at Miller County
Nursing Home, Tuscumbia. She was born Jan 29, 1918, in Miller County, a
daughter of Marion B. and Rosa Lee Roark King. She was married Sept 2,
1950, in Coquille, Ore., to Waino O. Kuoppala, who died Aug 7, 1971.
She lived in Alaska for 20 years and several other states before
returning to Missouri. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She worked as a packer for Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Bro.
Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Robert Childs Evans, 84, Cape Girardeau, formerly of Eldon, died Monday
at St. Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau. He was born April 14,
1913, in Kankakee, Ill., a son of Sylvester and Francis Childs Evans.
He was married June 6, 1942, in Fort Riley, Kan., to Mary Frissell, who
died Aug 25, 1991.
A 1935 graduate of the University of Illinois, he served in the horse
cavalry, the Air Corps and the Army Reserves, retiring in 1955 as a
lieutenant colonel. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church,
Jefferson City.
He owned the ford dealership in Eldon from 1952 until 1979. He bought
the Bank of Eldon in 1958 and served as president, retiring in 1986.
He managed the family farms in Cape Girardeau County from 1950 until his
death. He managed the Firestone office in Cape Girardeau and was
general manager at Ford Groves Motor Company.
Survivors include: four sons, Robert C. Evans Jr., William G. Evans and
Patrick F. Evans, all of Cape Girardeau, and Louis H. Evans Scott City;
one daughter, Molly Evans, Cape Girardeau; 16 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elmwood family farm, Cape
Girardeau. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Cape
Girardeau. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips
Funeral Home, Eldon. Visitation will also be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at

Harrisonville. She was born Aug 14, 1922, in Iberia, a daughter of
George and Lucy Rowden Dake. She was married Jan 18, 1941, in
Waynesville, to Allen F. Jones, who died June 18, 1991.
She was a member of the Iberia Church of the Nazarene, Iberia Community
Betterment Association and the Senior Citizens Card Club.
Survivors include: one daughter, Joan Arnold, Harrisonville; one
brother, George Dake Jr., Chelsea, Okla.; one sister, Loetta Griffin,
Kansas City; and two grandsons.

John C. Pemberton, 85, Iberia, died Tuesday at his home. He was born
Jan. 17, 1912, in Miller County, a son of William F. and Martha Melinda
Steen Pemberton. He was married March 16, 1933, in Waynesville, to
Gladys Colvin, who died Dec. 7, 1978. He was a farmer.
Survivors include: one son, Darrell R. Pemberton, Iberia; six
daughters, Alice J. Wall and Linda Duncan, both of Iberia; Erma
Luttrell, Geraldine Witt, Evelyn Moneymaker and Joretta Rodden, all of
Brumley; one sister, Vesta Harmon, Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren
and 24 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Dorsey Lee Pemberton and James Lester Pemberton, preceded him
in death.

Gerald L. Stone, 60, Sunrise Beach, died Tuesday in Gravois Mills. He
was born Jan. 16, 1937, in Ulman, a son of Willie E. and Marguerite
Brumley Stone. His parents survive in Elk Grove, Calif. He was married
Jan 27, 1974, in Reno, Nev., to Judy Coffman who survives at the home.
A lifetime resident of the Lake area, he worked for Captain Fancy Resort
in Gravois Mills. He was a Navy veteran.
Other survivors include: four sons, Larry Don Stone, Jefferson City,
James Dwain Stone, Russellville, Gerald Lee Stone Jr., Sunrise Beach,
and William G. Stone, Osage Beach; two brothers, Bill Stone, Eldon, and

Eula A. Tyler, 82, Iberia, died Friday at Maries Manor Health Care
Center, Vienna. She was born Dec. 29, 1911, at Springfield, a
daughter of Jewell and Mirtie Slone Hawkins. On April 5, 1947, she
was married at Olathe, Kan., to Joseph A. Tyler, who survives of the
home.
She was a member of the Mt. View Church of Christ near Iberia. She
was former secretary/treasurer of the church, having served in that
position 21 years.
Other survivors include: a son, J. Joseph Tyler, Tokyo, Japan; a
sister, Leeta Clark, Lebanon, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stevinson-Rekus Funeral
Home, Iberia, with burial in Union Cemetery near Iberia. Visitation
will be 4-8 p.m. Monday.

Sophie Vandervliet, 93, Eldon, died Friday at Osage Beach. She was
born Oct. 16, 1904, in Reil, Germany, a daughter of Frank and
Margaret Boehrner Sausen. She was married April 17, 1926, to Leon
Vandervliet, who survives.
Other survivors include: three children, two sisters, eight
grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 8
great-great-grandchildren. Private services will be under the
direction of Griswold-Kays Funeral Home, Eldon.

Harry Frank Schulte, 66, St. Anthony, died Monday at Truman Memorial
Veterans Hospital, Columbia. He was born Aug. 23, 1927, at St.
Elizabeth, a son of George and Regina Bax Schulte. He was married
Aug. 23, 1949, at ST. Anthony, to Bernice Rehagen, who survives of
the home.
He worked as a supervisor with Curtiss-Manes Construction in Eldon
from 1964-1979. A lifetime resident of St. Anthony, he was a member
of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was a former member of the St.
Anthony Cemetery Committee.
Other survivors include: six sons, Richard Schulte, George Schulte,
Paul Schulte, Dennis Schulte and Gene Schulte, all of St. Anthony,
and Jerome Schulte, Linn Creek; six daughters, Elizabeth Holtmeyer,
Helen Otto, Jean Dickneite and Doris Kliethermes, all of St.
Elizabeth, Carol Falter, Argyle, and Joyce Wieberg, St. Anthony;
three brothers, Jimmie Schulte, St. Anthony, Larry Schulte, St.

great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic
Church. The Rev. Clarence Wiederholt will officiate. Burial with
military rites will be in ST. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 4-9 p.m. today at St. Anthony Parish Hall, with a Christian wake
service at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of

Harold Henry Matthew Twehus, 56, Jefferson City, died Thursday at his
home. He was born Oct. 11, 1937, in St. Elizabeth, a son of William
Sr. and Ludmilla Boessen Twehus. His mother survives in Jefferson
City.
He attended St. Elizabeth schools and had been employed as a
construction worker. After his retirement, he was a volunteer at
Still Regional Medical Center (Jefferson City). He was a member of
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Other survivors include: one son, Brian Twehus, Jefferson City;
seven brothers, Joseph Twehus, Raymond Twehus, John Twehus and Bernie
Twehus, all of Jefferson City, James Twehus, Wardsville, William
Twehus Jr., Holts Summit, and Alfred Twehus, Taos; and four sisters,
Mary Schaefer, Linda Haslag and Betty Boes, all of Jefferson City,
and Janet Davidson, Hartsburg.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Siciliano and the Rev. Michael Wilbers
will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens

Jerry Thomas Orla Tyler, 36, of Brumley and formerly of Eldon, died
Saturday at his home. He was born June 20, 1957, in Rolla, a son of
William and Neoma Gray Tyler. His mother survives in Brumley. He was a
member of the Philadelphia Church of God.
Other survivors include: two brothers, William E. Tyler II, Flat, and
Shawn E. Tyler, Tuscumbia; two sisters, Gilda Y. Bergmann, Perryville,

Mary Bell Duncan, 89, Dixon, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Care Center,
where she had lived since 1992. She was born July 10, 1904, in Meta, a
daughter of Dave and Cordelia Pendleton Barnhart. She was married Sept.
30, 1926, in Vienna, to Thurman O. Duncan, who died Jan 18, 1971. She
was a member of the Campground Christian Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Corda Rakes, Meta; one brother, Odie
Barnhart, Dixon; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five
step-great-grandchildren. One son, Jim C. Duncan, preceded her in
death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stevinson-Rekus funeral Home
in Iberia, with the Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Burial will be in the

Laymon Keeth, 82, Iberia, died Saturday at his home. He was born July
21, 1911 near Iberia, a son of Albert and Effie Barnhart Keeth. He was
married August 30, 1958 near Iberia, to Dorcas Wall, who survives at the
home.
He worked as a motor pool inspector at Fort Leonard Wood until his
retirement in 1976. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a
charter member of the Iberia VFW Post 6167. He also was a member of the
Alder Springs Church of Christ.
Other survivors include: a step-daughter, June Burks, Iberia; a
brother, Raymond Keeth, Laverne, California; two sisters, Irene Winfrey,
Brumley, and Lorene Fancher, Iberia; two grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stevinson-Rekus Funeral Home,

Irene E. Ulstad, 71, Jefferson City, died Monday at Lincoln Nursing
Center. She was born April 13, 1923, at Mary’s Home, a daughter of
Guido G. and Elizabeth Angenett Butzer. She was married Oct. 19, 1945,
at Topeka, Kan., to Helton E. “Tony” Ulstad, who died Nov. 8, 1968.
She was a lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area and she graduated
in 1941 from St. Peters School. She worked at the Oberman
Manufacturing Co. for several years, then worked as a clerk for the
Missouri Public Service Commission until she retired in 1985. She was a
member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin L. Ulstad and Ruben Ulstad, both of
Jefferson City; two brothers, Harold G. Butzer and Donald C. Butzer,
both of Jefferson City; and one grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Freeman Chapel with the Rev.
Don Siciliano officiating. Burial will be in the Hawthorn Memorial
Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Freeman

Loran Leon Adams, 74, Iberia, died Monday at the St. Elizabeth Care
Center. He was born July 4, 1919, at Iberia, a son of George and Lou
Gardner Adams. He was married July 9, 1947, at Clinton, Ark., to Betty
Mae Ross, who survives at the home.
He was a lifelong Iberia resident. He graduated in 1939 from mortuary
school in St. Louis, then was associated with the Adams and Casey
Funeral Home in Iberia until 1947. He owned the business from 1947-50.
From 1950-66, he owned a trucking business. From 1966 until he retired
in 1982, he worked at Fort Leonard Wood.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a 50-year member of the
Iberia Masonic Lodge No. 410 AF & AM. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Donna Groves, Iberia, and Ann
Foster, Blue Springs; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A
son, Loran Leon Adams Jr., died in 1977.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Stevinson-Rekus Funeral
Home, Iberia, with the Revs. Walt Pollard and Earl Jones officiating.

Ozell Moseley, 79, Eldon, died Tuesday at Boone Hospital Center,
Columbia. She was born Oct. 15, 1914, in Morgan County, a daughter of
William and Laura Brewer Crum. She was married Oct. 11, 1930, in Rocky
Mount to Okle Moseley, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Miller and Morgan counties, she was a homemaker.
She worked for Snodgrass Men’s Wear in Eldon for several years and was a
member of the First Baptist Church, Eldon.
Other survivors include two sons, the Rev. Ron Moseley, Monett, and Dr.
Otis Moseley, Osage Beach; one daughter, Linda Birkhead, New London; one
sister, Mattie Forrester, Eldon; 15 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. One son, Harley Moseley, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. The

Lena M. Crum, 88, Eldon, died Wednesday at her home. She was born July
24, 1905, in Miller County, a daughter of Franklin and Mary Ella Gouge
James. She was married April 25, 1922, in Tuscumbia, to Earl Crum, who
died Nov. 20, 1977. A lifetime member of the Eldon community, she was a
homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Eldon.
Survivors include four daughters, Carol Browne, Edmond, Okla., Peggy
DeGraffenreid, Gladstone, Ann Eckenberger, Eldon, and Mary Sears,
Sanford, N.C.; one sister, Carol Schell, Punta Gorda Island, Fla.; nine
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sharon Sue Van
Hooser, preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1990.

Blanche Crum, 90, Eldon, died Thursday at Eldon Health Care Center. She
was born Feb. 20, 1904, in Cooper County, a daughter of Henry and Myrtle
Snodgrass Renken. She was married Feb 20, 1923, in California, to Sam
Crum, who died July 25, 1973.
She lived in the Olean area until she retired. She and her husband ran
a dairy farm and raised turkeys. She was an accomplished pianist. She
was a member of the Ninth Street Baptist Church, Eldon, and a former
member of the Olean Christian Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Helen Vittur, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.;
two brothers, Oscar Renken, Jefferson City, and Norville Renken,
California; and three sisters, Dorothy Medlin, Russellville, Dolan
Renken, Woodlawn, Ill., and Mary Brady, Creve Coeur.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ninth Street Christian Church.

Elmer E. Matthews, 87, Eldon, died Tuesday in Tuscumbia. He was born
March 28, 1907, in Tuscumbia, a son of Posie Matthews. He was married
Feb 14, 1924, in Tuscumbia, to Rissie Cotton, who died Jan 14, 1975.
He and his wife owned and operated the Rock Island Hotel in Eldon for
more than 20 years. He moved to Bakersfield, Calif., in 1957 and moved
back to Miller County in 1977.

Columbia. He was born May 17, 1935, in Dallas, s son of Robert B. and
Minnie Weathers Denton. He was married Sept 30, 1979, in Osage Beach,
to Patty A. Patterson, who survives at the home.
A resident of the Lake area since 1977, he was a welder. He operated
Ornamental Iron Co., Osage Beach, for several years. He was a past
member of the Elks Lodge, Osage Beach.

Denton, Osage Beach, and Mike Denton and Chris Denton, both of Stuart,

Fred J. “Fritz” Huhman, 81, St. Elizabeth, died Tuesday at his home. He
was born Nov. 8, 1915, in St. Elizabeth, a son of John H. and Josephine
Boeckman Huhman. He was married June 10, 1945, in St. Thomas, to Zita
Adrian, who survives at the home.
He worked as a dairy farmer and electrician before retiring. He was a
lifelong member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth, and a
member of the Holy Name Society, St. Joseph’s Sodality and St. Elizabeth
Knights of Columbus.
He served on the board of directors for the St. Elizabeth Care Center
and St. Elizabeth Senior Manor Apartments. He was a past member of the
St. Elizabeth School Board.

City, Roger Huhman, Columbia, and David Huhman, Lancaster, Calif.; five

She co-owned the Brave Bull restaurant in Camdenton and Jones Barbecue
in Laurie. She was a member of Mount Zion Christian Church, Tuscumbia.

Anazlone, Union; three daughters, Rose Mary Grady, Granite City, Ill.,

She was a homemaker and a member of the Iberia First Christian Church.
She was a 50-year member of the Iberia Order of the Eastern Star and a
member of Iberia Fremont Watkins American Legion Auxiliary Post 105.
Survivors include: four daughters, Juanita Dake, Edwardsville, Kan.,
Dorothy Greene, Minneapolis, Freddie Carroll, Florissant, and Betty

Dr. C.H. “Cy” Parkins, 90, Eldon, died Friday at Capital Region Medical
Center-Madison. He was born Sept 15, 1906, in Norborne, a son of George
K. and Sarah Meier Parkins. He was married Jan 22, 1938, in Carrollton,
to Martha L. Barclay, who died March 21, 1981.
He moved to Eldon from Carroll County in 1937. He practiced optometry
until his retirement in 1972. He owned and operated a jewelry store in
Eldon for several years. He was active in the community and was a
member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club.
Survivors include: two sons, Dr. George K. Parkins, Prairie Village,
Kan., and John Parkins, Eldon; and four grandchildren.

in St. Elizabeth, to William Joseph Kemna, who died Aug 30, 1985.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St.
Elizabeth. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Sodality, a former leader
of the J.F.A., and a member and past president of the W.P.F.A. She
worked for several years at the Meta factory and the MFA Exchange in St.
Elizabeth.

William Virgil Kemna, Victor Kemna and Henry Kemna, all of St.

Daniel Elston Smith, 59, Iberia, died Sunday from injuries sustained
in an automobile accident near Iberia. He was born Jan. 11, 1939, in
Fortville, Ind., a son of Carl E. and Katherine Iola LeValley Smith.
He was married Dec. 4, 1987, in Iberia, to Shawna Carmine, who
survives in Iberia. An Army veteran, he was a truck driver until his
retirement.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Julie Waller, Garden Grove,
Calif., and Crickett Katie Smith, Iberia; and four grandchildren.
One son, Jeffrey Duane Smith, also died in the accident.

survives in Garden Grove, Calif.

Kan., to Virginia Lee Higgins, who survives at the home.
He worked as a truck driver for McLeans Trucking, retiring in 1977. He
was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 41 in Kansas City. He was a
member of the Shawnee Boulevard Christian Church, Kansas City, Kan.

Charley Jasper Strange, 98, Eldon, died Thursday at Capital Region
Medical Center-Southwest. He was born Jan 15, 1899, in Blue Rapids,
Kan., a son of Roy and Nettie Tyron Strange. He was married Dec. 18,
1920, in Fort Riley, Kan., to Maude M. Wilson, who died Feb 4, 1990.
He was an Army veteran, serving from 1918-20. He moved to Miller
County in 19335. He was a farmer and part-time auctioneer. He was a
member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He moved to Eldon after his
retirement and had been a resident of the Lee House in Eldon since
1990.
Survivors include: one son, Charles Wilson Strange, Everett, Wash.;
two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren.

Center-Southwest. She was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Munich, Germany, a
daughter of Theodore Wieser and Anna Bauer. She was married Feb 16,
1954, in Wiesbaden Germany, to Jessie Gollihugh, who survives at the
home. She and her husband operated an upholstery business. She also
enjoyed working with flowers.

daughters, Betty Calvin, Columbia, and Charlotte Gollihugh, of the home;
five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Region Medical Center-Southwest. She was born Feb. 5, 1911, in
Miller County, a daughter of Marvin E. and Lena Harrison Slote. She
was married March 4, 1927, in Jefferson City, to Everett Lester
Connell, who died May 27, 1975.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church and the Ladies Quilting Circle, and a past 25-year member of
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stringtown, and the Ladies Aid. She did
volunteer work at Westminster Heritage Dining Room for six years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Vernie Murray, California, and
Darlene Beeler, Jefferson City; one brother, Charles Slote, Carl
Junction; two sisters, Lee Burks, Eldon, and Leona Swofford, Kansas
City; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren. One daughter, Ella Mae Connell, died Jan
3, 1928.

John W. Livingston, 88, Jefferson City, died Sunday at Westphalia
Retirement Center. He was born Aug. 17, 1908, near Iberia, a son of
Richard M. and Mary Alice Burks Livingston. He was married May 9, 1931,
in St. Louis to Rubye Britt, who survives at the home.
A resident of Jefferson City since 1982, he was involved in the U.S.
labor union movement. In 1933 he was instrumental in establishing a
union at Fisher Body Plant, St. Louis, which became United Automobile
Workers (UAW) Local 25. He was elected UAW executive board member and
regional director in 1942, with offices in Kansas City.
In 1947, when he was elected UAW vice-president, he moved to Detroit to
direct the union’s operations in general Motors and in the aircraft and
farm implement industries. He held that position until 1955. He served
on the national Wage Stabilization Board in 1951 and 1952.
After the merger of the AFL and CIO, he was named director of
organization of the AFL-CIO in Washington, D.C., a position he held
until his retirement in 1965. After he retired, he operated a cattle
farm near Tuscumbia.
A resident of Ft. Myers, Fla., from 1972 to 1982, he was a member of the
Scottish Rite in Ft. Myers. He was a member of Capital City Christian
Church, Raytown Lodge 391, A.F. & A.M., and the Moslem Temple, Detroit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
The Rev. Gary Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Livingston

She managed the El Donna Motel. She was a member of First Baptist

He was a lineman for a Sikeston power company until 1977, when he moved
to Tuscumbia.

James W. Weitz Sr., 73, Tuscumbia, died Thursday at Lake of the Ozarks
General Hospital, Osage Beach. He was born March 3, 1921, in

served in the Army in World War II and was a member of Eldon VFW Post
2442. He was a farmer for several years. He was employed by the
Missouri Department of Corrections for 17 years, until his retirement in

Winona, to Frances Eason Marshall, who survives at the home.
He served in the Army from 1959-1965, and was a member of the Methodist
Church of Winona. He lived in Eldon for the past 20 years.

Celia Bernice Trimble, 86, Eldon, died Monday at her home. She was born
July 23, 1907, in Bagley, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Elsie Capel
Peters. She was married Dec. 28, 1931, at Lake City, Iowa, to Fred
Trimble, who survives at the home.
A homemaker, she was a 50-year member of the PEO and of the Order of the
Eastern Star. She was a member of the Eldon United Methodist Church and
of the women’s group. She was a member of the Euterpean Club, the Eldon
Garden Club and Alpha Chi Omega. She studied music as a vocalist and
pipe organist. She performed a musical act with her sister in the
1920’s. She played piano for silent movie theaters in Iowa. She was a
church organist and choir director for 65 years.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Janice Grosvenor, Rocky Mount;
one sister, Mildred McColgin, Eldon; three grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. One son, Jay Erwin Trimble, preceded her in death.

Harrison, Ark., to Betty Evans who survives at the home.
He attended Eldon public schools and was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.
He was employed by Sears, Eldon, as an appliance repair technician for
18 years. He also operated an independent appliance repair business
after his association with Sears. He was a member of VFW Post 2442 and
Eldon United Methodist Church.

Roy E. Rush, 81, Eugene, died Tuesday at Still Regional Medical Center
(Jefferson City). He was born May 7, 1913, in Eugene, the son of
Ephurim and Isabel Bittle Rush. He was married Aug. 9, 1934, in Eldon,
to Milda Hager, who died March 12, 1993.
A lifetime resident of the Eugene community, he farmed for most of his
life. He was a member of the Church of God Holiness in Eldon. He
served as Sunday school superintendent for 40 years and as church
deacon.
Survivors include: six sons, LaRue Rush, Robert Rush, and Gerald Rush,
all of Tuscumbia, Kenneth Rush and Marvin Rush, both of Eldon and Sammy
Rush, Eugene; one brother, Ishmael Rush, Olean; two sisters, Ruth Rush,

Meals on Wheels.

Bill L. Harbison, 65, Eldon, died Friday at University of Missouri
Columbia Hospital and Clinics. He was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Eldon, a
son of Robert and Ruby Sandfort Harbison. His mother survives in Eldon.
He was married Nov. 16, 1952, in Olean to Betty L. Cartner, who
survives at the home.
He graduated from Jefferson City High School and attended Jefferson City
Junior College. He graduated as a paralegal from Drury College,
Springfield.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and received the Purple Heart. He
retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years.
He served as a member and president of the Lake Area Community
Orchestra, past president of the Eldon Jaycees, member of the Lake Area
Arts Council and a member of the Eldon Industrial Development Board. He
belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as city alderman in
Eldon.

Debbie Leffert, Eldon and Jan Harbison, Jefferson City; two sisters,

He retired in 1981 as street superintendent. He was a member of First
Christian Church, Eldon.

brothers, Howard Barker and Bill Barker, both of Eldon; one sister,

Orvil B. Karr, 84, High Point, died Monday at the Osage Beach Health
Care Center. He was born July 20, 1909, in Miller County, a son of
Charles and Iva Kelsay Karr. He was married July 14, 1966, in Lebanon,
to Lois Allen, who survives at the home. He was a member of the Hickory
Point Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Nell M. Adams, 86, Holts Summit, died Monday at St. Mary’s Health Center
(Jefferson City). She was born June 3, 1907, in Mt. Pleasant, a
daughter of Martin and Sarah Johnston Haynes. She was married to Elmond
Etter, who preceded her in death. She later married John Adams, who
preceded her in death.
She lived in St. Louis most of her life. She worked in the personnel
department of the Mercantile Bank, St. Louis, retiring in 1970. She was
a member of the 21 Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, both in St.
Louis.
Survivors include a grandson, Rick Etter, Holts Summit, and three
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The

married Oct. 18, 1943, in Lexington, to Donald Wayne Hittle, who

Medical Center. She was born Oct. 26, 1907, near Olean, a daughter of
John and Margaret Bond Ackers. She was married Sept. 24, 1924, in
Jefferson City, to Earl Rannabargar, who died Dec. 29, 1967.
She was a cook at the Russellville School for many years. She was a
member of Centertown Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Darrell Rannabargar, Centertown; four
daughters, Anna Watts and Mary Kirkwig, both of Centertown, Gloria
Maier, California, and Jackie Knernschield, Lohman; three sisters, Irene

Catherine L. Rehagen, 73, St. Elizabeth, died Sunday at Still Regional
Medical Center. She was born Aug 17, 1920, in Meta, the daughter of Ben
and Anna Meiburger Scheulen. She was married Oct. 12, 1937, in St.
Louis to George Rehagen, who died Sept. 6, 1971.
She worked for Ottenheimer Uniform Factory in Meta for 17 years,
retiring in 1985. After that, she operated a day care center in her
home. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth
and of St. Ann’s Sodality.
Survivors include: one son, Lawrence “Dick” Rehagen, Meta; two
daughters, Marilyn Nilges, St. Elizabeth, and Marjorie Herigon, St.
Thomas; one sister, Mamie Wansing, Meta; nine grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. A son, Bernard Rehagen, preceded her in death in
1951.

Jessie J. Lehr, 93, Littleton, Colo., died Wednesday at Englewood, Colo.
She was born June 29, 1901, at Iberia, a daughter of Joseph and Azilee
Hughes James. In December 1944, she was married to Leister Lehr, who
died on Jan. 22, 1961.
A native of the Iberia community, she lived in the Eldon area until
1979, when she moved to Denver, Colo. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Eldon.
Survivors include: two daughters, Dorothy Stoner, Englewood, Colo., and
Pauline Holeyfield, Granite City, Ill.; a son, Gail Lewis, St. Louis;
nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home,
Eldon, with the Rev. James V. Lamb and the Rev. Ernest Waite

He emigrated to the United States from Great Britain when he was a

married on Oct. 4, 1976 in New London to Mason York, who died Nov. 13,
1985.
She lived most of her life in Eldon. She was a member of First Baptist
Church of Eldon. She was employed as a seamstress in Glaser Brothers
Pants Factory for several years until her retirement in 1972.
Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy Downing, Eldon, and Louise
Farris, Olean; one son, Charles Wood, Kansas city, Kan.; one brother,
Milo Burris, Kaiser; one sister, Lucille McGowan, Eldon; 11
stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was

was a member of United Methodist Church. She was a member of Eldon VFW

Antone H. “Tony” Holzer, 79, Mary’s Home, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth
Care Center. He was born July 26, 1915, in Mary’s Home, the son of
Philip and Mary Hake Holzer. He was married Oct. 15, 1947, in Mary’s
Home to Alma Limbach, who survives at the home.
A lifetime resident of the Mary’s Home community, he was a farmer and a
World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows
Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Mary’s Home Senior
Citizens, and VFW Post 4224 of Eldon.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Jerome Holzer and Albert Holzer,
both of Jefferson City; one sister, Regina Jaegers, Jefferson City; and
a foster sister, Delores Holzer, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Snows Ctholic
Church, Mary’s Home. Fr. William Korte will officiate. Burial will be
in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 208 p.m. Monday at
Phillips Funeral Home, Mary’s Home, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a prayer
service at 7:30 p.m.

Dorothy I. Swafford, 53, Eldon, died Friday at Capital Region Medical
Center-Memorial Campus. She was born Oct. 18, 1941, the daughter of
Carl J. and Abbigill Cox Homes. She was married to Ernest Swafford, who
survives in Eldon.
A member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jefferson City, she was
employed by Fasco Industries, Eldon.
Survivors include: one son, David Swafford, Eldon; two daughters,
Vickie McCorkle, Kansas City, Kan., and Carla Tannehill, Eldon; four
brothers, George Homes, Doug Seibert, Wayne Seibert, and Jerry Seibert,
all of Eldon; one sister, Rosie Wecees, Eldon; and four grandchildren.
One daughter, Janell Steen, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home,
Versailles. Keith Noll will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore
Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Barnett. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m.
today.

Services were today for Anna Odessa Catron Mann, 87, Camdenton, who died
Sunday at her daughter’s home near Edwards. She was born Aug. 1, 1907,
in Brumley, the daughter of Benjamin L. and Martha Huddleston Jeffries.
She was married to Henry E. Catron, Manasseh Catron and August H. Mann,
who all preceded her in death. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident
of the Lake area. She was a member of Camdenton Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Donald L. Catron, Springfield, Charles
W. Catron, Warsaw, and Nate Catron, Big Springs, Texas; three daughters,
Elvia L. Wilson, Edwards, Mary L. Neary, Fairfield Bay, Ark., and
Beverly Clark, Kansas City; one brother, Ottie H. Jeffries, Camdenton;
14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren. One daughter, Lois Black, preceded her in
death.
Services were at Allee-Reed Funeral Home. The Rev. Clifford Canon
officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery, Kaiser.

Jewell Hannah, 79, Iberia, died Saturday at Lake Ozark General Hospital.
She was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Crocker, the daughter of John and Mary
Long Shelton. She was married Oct. 15, 1953, in Crocker, to Clarence
Hannah, who died Jan 4, 1990.
She worked at L. B. Manufacturing and at Casey’s Clothing Store, both in
Iberia. She was a member of the Iberia Community Club and the Mt.
Gilead Christian Church, east of Iberia.
Survivors include: one daughter, Glenda Martin, Iberia; three brothers,
Wilbert Shelton, Iberia, Dannie Shelton, Crocker, and Lester Shelton,
Richland; one sister, Lois Dickey, Lamar; two grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stevinson-Rekus Funeral Home,
Iberia. Bro. Billy Claiborn will officiate. Burial will be in Iberia
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday. Memorials are
suggested to the Donna Martin Shreve Memorial Fund.
