Rosaline M. Bilyeu, 71, St. Elizabeth, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth
Care Center. She was born March 1, 1925, in St. Elizabeth, a daughter
of William and Catherine Struemph Rehagen. She was married Sept. 1,
1951, in St. Elizabeth to Lewis Harold Bilyeu, who survives at the home.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St.
Elizabeth, and the St. Ann’s Sodality.
Other survivors include: one son, Gary Bilyeu, Wardsville; and three
grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
The Rev. John Degnan will officiate. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral
Home, St. Elizabeth, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Charlene Henderson, 67, Iberia, died Friday at her home. She was born
July 2, 1929, in Swedeborg, a daughter of Guy and Alma Tucker Smith.
She was married Sept 23, 1947, in Waynesville, to James M. Henderson,
who survives of the home. A homemaker, she was a member of Crocker
Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: one son, Don Henderson, Swedeborg; two
daughters, Kathy Williams, Iberia, and Cindy Snead, Springfield; two
sisters, Bonnie Cadwell, Sarcoxie, and Carol Mihalevich, Springfield;
and five grandchildren. One son, James Patrick Henderson, preceded her
in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Pastor
Doug Jacobson will officiate. Burial will be in Crocker Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials are suggested to the
Lake Ozark Area Home Health Agency and Hospice.

Maggie Veasman, 84, Dixon, died Monday at Phelps County Regional Medical
Center, Rolla. She was born Oct. 24, 1911, in Miller County, a daughter
of Samuel and Nancy Jones Slone. She was married March 14, 1936, at
Crocker, to Jake Veasman, who survives of the home. A homemaker, she
was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dixon.
Other survivors include: one son, Richard Veasman, Lee’s Summit; one
sister, Eunice Gamzick, St. Louis; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home,
Dixon. The Rev. Randall Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in
Dixon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from 9
a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to First Christian
Church, Dixon.

John E. Son, 66, Eldon, died Saturday at Truman Memorial Veterans
Hospital, Columbia. He was born March 20, 1930, in Olean, a son of John
Ezra Son and Bertha Morris. He was married July 11, 1953, in Iberia to
Paralee Meredith, who survives at the home.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a longtime electrician in
the Eldon area. He was a member of Ninth Street Christian Church for 39
years and a life member of Eldon VFW Post 2442.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Nira Neises, Holts Summit; one
sister, Helen Dixon, Eldon; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The
Rev. Don E. Renken will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery, Eldon. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials are

Estel Currence, 77, Eldon, died Thursday at Meadowbrook Manor. He was
born Sept 19, 1918, in Eldon, a son of David E. and Opal A. Lunceford
Currence. He was married Aug 16, 1939, in Eldon to Thelma Ranum, who
survives at the home.
A farmer, he was a member of Greenridge Baptist Church. He was a bus
driver for Eldon Administrative Unit R-1 for 23 years, prior to
retiring. He represented Hazel Dell Insurance Company for 10 years.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Karen Wacker, Eldon; three
brothers, Howard Currence and Dale Currence, both of Eldon and Wilford
Currence, Barnett; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenridge Baptist Church. The
Rev. Jasper Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Greenridge
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral

Donald James Witt, 60, Brumley, died Friday at Boone Hospital Center,
Columbia. He was born June 13, 1936, in Brumley, a son of Fred and
Parthena Luttrell Witt. He was married May 30, 1957, in Tuscumbia to
Geraldine Pemberton, who survives at the home. He had been a building
stone supplier in Central Missouri for the past 20 years.
Other survivors include: one son, Mitt Witt, Brumley; two daughters,
Rebecca Whittle and Kathleen Witt, both of Brumley; three sisters, Daisy
Duncan, Dorsie Huddleston and Delcie Lawson, all of Brumley; and seven
grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The
Rev. Lee Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near
Brumley. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today. Memorials are

Millard S. Long, 88, Jefferson City, died Monday in Atlanta. He was
born Aug. 22, 1907, in Brumley, a son of Tilton and Alma Miller Long.
He was married April 27, 1930, in Eugene, to Della Thompson, who
survives at the home.
A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1932, he was employed by
Missouri Power and Light Co. at the Main Street power plant until his
retirement in 1972. He was a lifelong member of the Christian Church,
and a deacon emeritus at First Christian Church. He was a member and
past officer in the Brotherhood of International Electrical Workers.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Doris J. Thurmon, Atlanta; one
son, Dr. John W. Long, Horseshoe Bay, Texas; seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. One son, James E. Long died in 1987.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hawthorn Memorial
Gardens. Dr. John W. Long will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8
p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to a
charity of the donor’s choice.

Bertha I. Denton. 94, Eldon, died Tuesday at her home. She was born
Feb. 16, 1902, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of Philander P. and Clara Alice
Birdsong Richardson. She was married July 27, 1921, in Jefferson City
to Herman G. Denton, who died Oct. 28, 1987.
A lifelong resident of the Eldon area, she worked as a corrections
officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections. She was a member of
the Tuscumbia Christian Church and the Mt. Pleasant Club.
Survivors include: three daughters, Dorothy Denton, Kansas City, Alice
Johnson, Lenexa, Kan., and Fern Mathews, Eldon; one brother, Hoover
Richardson, Harrisonville; one sister, Bernice Abbott, Liberty; four
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett. Visitation will
be from 4-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the

Jean M. Beard Lupardus, 80, Ulman, died Monday at St. Marys Health
Center. She was born Oct. 3, 1915, in Big Piney, a daughter of Bennie
and Ella Moore Beard. She was married May 17, 1930, in Tuscumbia, to
Harley Lupardus, who survives of the home.
She worked for Glazer Brothers Pants Factory in Eldon, L. B.
Manufacturing in Iberia, and retired from Langenberg Hat Factory in St.
Elizabeth. She worked as a cook for the School of the Osage Elementary
School. She was a board member of the Ulman Community Center and a
member of Ulman Christian Church.
Other survivors include: four sons, Jack Lupardus, Eugene, Richard
Lupardus, Iberia, and Benny Lupardus and David Lupardus, both of
Tuscumbia; two daughters, Audrey Lee and Arlene Helton, both of
Tuscumbia; one sister, Elsie Jones, Russellville; 12 grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One son, Kenneth
Raymond Lupardus, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ulman Christian church. Burial
will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia. Visitation will be from
4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

Eldon. She was born Jan 11, 1914, in Henley, a daughter of John and
Grace Golden Hale. She was married to Clarence Bacon, who preceded her
in death. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Dallas Bacon, Gray Summit; two brothers,
Buford Hale and Merle Hale, both of St. Louis; nine grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Eula Starling, 82, Osage Beach, died Wednesday at her home. She was
born Nov. 20, 1913, in Etterville, a daughter of Lilburn and Lavona
Williams Burns. She was married Nov. 15, 1933, in Tuscumbia, to Golder
G. Starling, who died Nov. 15, 1967.
A graduate of Eldon High School, she worked at the Eldon Ben Franklin
store. She was employed by Woolworth’s both in Jefferson City and St.
Louis. A resident of Osage Beach since 1995, she was active in Mt.
Herman Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Heil, Overland; one son, Thomas
Starling, Auburn Hills, Mich.; three grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Geneva Alice Kelley, 83, Iberia, died Wednesday at her home. She was
born July 28, 1912, in Iberia, a daughter of James and Lillie Russell
Moss. She was married Nov. 25, 1932, to Olman Denton, who died in 1965.
She was married Oct. 25, 1975, in Iberia, to Lonnie Kelley, who
survives at the home.
She worked in food service at General Leonard Wood Army Community
Hospital until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of Alder
Springs Church of Christ near Iberia.
Other survivors include: one son, Kenneth Denton, Iberia; one daughter,
Geraldine Pendleton, Dixon; one brother, James Moss, Iberia; one sister,
Zella Rodden, Brumley; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and
one great-great-grandson. One son, Billy Denton, died Aug 16, 1992.

Services were today for Irene Moseley, 80, Eldon, who died Tuesday at
Jefferson City Manor. The Rev. Gene Edwards officiated at services at
Griswold-Kays Funeral Home, Eldon. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
She was born March 17, 1916, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of Monroe and
Stella Wyrick Roberts. She was employed as a housekeeper at Capital
Region Medical Center-Madison, formerly Charles E. Still Hospital, for
20 years. A resident of Eldon for the past 25 years, she was a member
of First Baptist Church, Eldon.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Ann Smith Sanders, Jefferson
City; three sisters, Juanita Marriott and Lucy Umstead, both of Eldon,
and Alma Brown Barnhart, Caro, Mich; and one granddaughter.

1946, in Harrison, Ark., to Burle Gladden, who survives of the home.
A homemaker, she was a member of Iberia Congregational Christian Church
and the Iberia Order of the Eastern Star. She had worked at the MFA
Grocery Store in Iberia.

Oct. 26, 1971, in Tuscumbia, a son of Cletis Stark and Rita Louise
Moulder. His father survives in Brumley. His mother survives in
Camdenton. He was a licensed practical nurse for home health care.

Center. She was born July 11, 1924, in Lexington, Okla., a daughter of
Hosie M. and Dona M. May Morris. She was married July 24, 1946, in
Wichita, Kan., to Chet Zuck Sr., who died Aug 7, 1997.
She was a production worker for Chesebrough Ponds. She was a member of
First Baptist Church, Eldon. She was employed with Douglas Aircraft,
Oklahoma City, Okla., during World War II.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Eugene Zuck, Barnett, and Chet Zuck
Jr., Tuscumbia; four sisters, Una Mae Murnan, Delaware, Okla., Billye
Jean Schmidt, New Braunfels, Texas, Juanita Jo Miller, Stillwater,
Okla., and Margie Lou Carpenter, Del City, Okla.; two brothers, Rayferd

Alviena E. Hollenbeck, 75, Eugene, died Nov. 14, 1998, at Jefferson City
Manor. She was born April 9, 1923, in Mary’s Home, a daughter of Peter
P. and Mary Buetel Bungart. She was married May 17, 1945, in ST. Louis,
to Paul Hollenbeck, who died May 3, 1991.
She was a factory worker at Prince Gardener Manufacturing Co., St.
Louis, for 35 years until her retirement in 1984, when she moved back to
Mary’s Home. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church,
Mary’s Home, the Legion of Mary and the Altar Sodality. She was a
member of the OATS bus transportation.
Survivors include: two brothers, Jerome Bungart, Raytown, and Ambrose
Bungart, Jefferson City; and one sister, Julian Carver, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic
Church. The Rev. Joseph Starmann will officiate. Burial will be in Our

Wanda Drinkard Bemboom, 70, Holts Summit, died Nov. 14, 1998, at her
home. She was born Aug 19, 1928, in Olean, a daughter of Emmett E. and
Leotta M. Dampf Felber. She was married Sept. 29, 1954, in Little Rock,
Ark., to Marvin “Fats” Drinkard, who died Oct. 19, 1968. She was
married July 3, 1974, in Holts Summit, to Anthony S. Bemboom, who died
Feb. 20, 1985.
She was a graduate of California High School, California. A lifelong
resident of Central Missouri, she was employed by the California Pants
Factory until moving to Jefferson City in 1946. From 1954 to 1984 she
co-owned Drinkard Water Service, and was a waitress at Little Nell’s
Café until her retirement. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist
Church, Holts Summit.
Survivors include: one stepson, Gary Bemboom, Prairie Home; one sister,
Juanita Scott, Raymond, Wash.; one brother, Herbert Felber, Holts
Summit; two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev.
James Preston and the Rev. William Smith will officiate. Burial will be
in Enloe Cemetery, near Russellville. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m.

Dixon. She was born June 8, 1916, in Miller County, a daughter of Elza
and Amanda Lawson Hunt. She was married Nov. 5, 1930, in Miller County,
to Seldon Earl Humphrey, who died Nov. 24, 1958. She was a homemaker
and a member of Full Gospel Family Church, Dixon.
Survivors include: two sons, Jewell Humphrey, Brumley, and Donley
Humphrey, Deepwater; one daughter, Mary Ann Rowden, Dixon; one brother,
Oscar Hunt, Rocky Mount; one sister, Pauline Albertson, Eldon; six
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One granddaughter preceded
her in death.

Vivian Whittle, 75, Eldon, died Nov. 14, 1998, at Lake of the Ozarks
General Hospital, Osage Beach. She was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Miller
County, a daughter of Otto and Sarah Stone Whittle. She moved to the
state of California in her early teens and later moved back to Miller
County. She was a waitress.
Survivors include: one daughter, Nellie Pruitt, Eldon; two sisters,
Edna Fletcher, Eldon, and Pearl Wood, Tuscumbia; one brother, Bill
Whittle, Eldon; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. One
grandchild preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

Harold Eugene Shelton, 69, Buffalo, formerly of Iberia, died Nov. 12,
1998, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Center, Buffalo. He was born July
14, 1929, in Iberia, a son of Herman and Genia Denton Shelton. His
mother survives in Iberia. He was married June 14, 1949, in Salem Ark.,
to Nina Mae Gardner, who survives at the home.
He worked as an electrician, plumber, and in construction. He was a
turkey farmer for 26 years. He was a member of Mt. Union Church of
Christ, near Brumley.
Other survivors include: two sons, Edward Allen Shelton and Rickey Lynn
Shelton, both of Buffalo; two daughters, Lesia Crouch, Buffalo, and
Donna Davenport, Palatka, Fla.; two sisters, Lura Law, Belton, and Wilma
Gardner, Iberia; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Blanche Anna Streumph, 70, St. Elizabeth, died Nov. 3, 1998, at
Friendship House. She was born Sept. 9, 1928, in St. Elizabeth, a
daughter of Martin and Lucy Weidinger Struemph.

married April 6, 1945, in Cedar City, to Cecil A. “Dugan” Hinshaw, who
died Dec. 6, 1966. She was married Oct. 1, 1974, in Forsyth, to Wilmer
“Bob” Elliott, who survives at the home.
She attended school in Brumley and was a lifelong resident of Central Missouri. She
was employed by the Tweedie Footwear Factory for several years. She later owned
Polly Gray’s Beauty Shop for 10 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the
VFW Auxiliary.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Betty Smallwood, Hartsburg; two
step-daughters, Kathryn Elliott and Karen Elliott, both of Jefferson
City; one step-son, Kenneth Elliott, Jefferson City; one sister, Geneva

He was a 1940 graduate of California High School and attended Capital
City Business College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the
Korean War and retired as a chief yeoman after serving 20 years. He
worked 21 years with Missouri State Employment Security as a job
recruiter. He also was a self-employed farmer. A former Barnett
resident, he was a member of Hopewell Christian Church; Gideons,
International; and VFW Post 5902, Gravois Mills.

Volkart, Jefferson City; one daughter, Beverly Pethan, Jefferson City;

Joseph Francis “Joe” Mason, 62, Iberia, died Oct. 26, 1998, at his home.
HE was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Moline, Ill., a son of Joseph Vaiana and
Arlene Proehl Mason. His mother survives in Iberia. He was married Aug
3, 1955, in Reno, Nev., to Shirley Ann Blue, who survives at the home.
He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1965. He worked for the Rock Island
arsenal from 1965 to 1978. He was a plumber, and was a sheriff’s deputy
in Miller County for the past 13 years. He was a member of American
Legion Post 105, Iberia; and the Iberia United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include: one son, Jim Mason, Iberia; one daughter,
Pamela Hill, Iberia; three brothers, John Mason, Iberia, Bill Mason,
Camdenton, and Paul Vaiana, Madison, Wis.; one sister, Carole Lysell,

Stanley Edward Hlavacek, 86, Eldon, died Oct. 5, 1998, at Eldon
Healthcare Center. He was born Oct. 31, 1911 in Chicago, a son of
Joseph and Anna Mary Balousek Hlavacek. He was married Oct. 12, 1940,
in River Forest, Ill., to Harriet Pruter, who survives at the home.
He was a field Auditor for the Missouri Division of Employment Security
and was postmaster general for the Missouri House of Representatives.
He also owned and operated Walnut Wood Products in Eldon.
He was a member of the Eldon United Methodist Church and a past trustee
of the Eldon Library Board. He was a past President of the Eldon
Country Club, where he’d been a member since 1947.

Texas, Wayne Hlavacek, Springfield and David Hlavacek, Jefferson City;
one daughter, Mary E. Sears, Eldon; one brother, Eugene Hlavacek,

Margie M. Humphrey, 70, of Clark died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1993 at her
home. She was born July 22, 1923 in Iberia to Oscar T. and Lettie
Rowden Malmberg. On Oct. 6, 1940 she was married to William Wayne
Humphrey, who died March 28, 1991.
She was a member of the Clark Full Gospel Fellowship and had lived in
the Clark community for about nine years.
Mrs. Humphrey is survived by a son, Rev. Kenneth Wayne Humphrey of
Clark; two daughters, Alice Marie Butler of Rolla and Mary Catherine
Reynard of Clark; a brother, Clarence Owen Malmberg of Belleville, Ill.;

Kenneth Carpenter, 65, of Barnett died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1993 at St.
Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born Oct. 5, 1927 in St.
Charles to Wilbur L. and Audra C. Barron Carpenter. On June 25, 1951 he
was married in Versailles to Elizabeth Williams, who survives at the
home.
Mr. Carpenter was reared in St. Charles and moved to Columbia where he
lived for several years. In the late 1940s he moved to this area and
had lived in Morgan and Miller counties for the past 45 years. He
served on the USS Dayton in the Navy and was in the service for eight
years. He had a radio ministry on KRMS for more than 20 years on Sunday
mornings. Mr. Carpenter had been pastor of Rocky Mount Baptist, Spring
Garden Baptist, Glenwood Baptist, West Union Baptist, Fellowship Bible
Church and Union Church at Barnett. He organized and built Fellowship
Bible Church of Eldon in 1974 and served as its pastor until retirement.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Carpenter is survived by three sons,
Randall Carpenter of Versailles, Paul Carpenter of Jansen, Neb., and
Timothy Carpenter of Eldon; four daughters, Colleen Varela of Oxnard,
Calif., Mary Sale of Jefferson City, Joy Ryan of Eldon and Leah
Carpenter of the home; a brother, Lloyd Carpenter of Bowie Md.; and a
sister, Rosemary Morrison of Versailles.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Bible Church
with the Rev. Ivan Daweron and the Rev. Rod Campbell officiating.
Burial was in New Zion Cemetery near California under the direction of
Griswold-Kays Funeral Home of Eldon. The family suggests contributions

9, 1937, in Brumley, to Roy Swofford, who died July 23, 1991.
She was a homemaker and worked for L.B. Manufacturing, Iberia. She was
a member of Mount Union Church of Christ near Brumley.
Survivors include: four sons, Dorless Swofford and Larry Swofford, both
of Brumley, Morris Swofford, St. Peters, and Marvin Swofford, Rocky
Mount; two sisters, Mary Jo Shelton and Louevenia Davenport, both of
Brumley; one brother, Artie Reinhart, Richland; six grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Ralph
Pitts will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested to

Esco Jewel Phillips, 83, of Selah, Wash., died Friday, Aug 6, 1993 at
home. He was formerly of the Brumley community and had recently
returned home from a visit with relatives here. Mr. Phillips was born
Nov. 6, 1909 at Brumley to George and Magdalene Reed Phillips.
Mr. Phillips had been a night watchman for Amorall before retiring and
moving to Selah. He enjoyed gardening and could name any tree or plant
when asked.
Surviving him are a daughter, Sue Lamb of Federal Way, Wash.; a brother,
Otho “Tobe” Phillips of Parker, Wash.; a sister, Geneva Turner of
Yakima, Wash.; and three grandchildren. No formal services were held,
as was his request.

Paul Edmond Graham, 77, of Marble Falls, Tex., died July 25, 1993. He
was born April 1, 1916 in Brumley to James A. and Florence Brown Graham.
Aug 6, 1938 he was married to Ida Nerine Sandfort, who survives at the
home.
Mr. Graham was reared in Aurora Springs but had lived in Las Vegas,
Nev., and Texas for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II. Before retirement he was a plumber.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Ola Morton of
Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held July 28 at Bluebonnet Hills Baptist Church in
Marble Falls, Tex., where he was a member. Officiating were Rev.
William Mosely, Pastor Haines and Rev. Hayes. Burial was held July 30
in Las Vegas with Mr. Graham’s nephew, Rev. James W. Vernon officiating.

Nile Alston James, 62, of Huber Heights, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 30,
1995, at his home. He was born July 20, 1932 in Miller County to Alvia
B. and Oma Vaughn James. Mr. James was a retired Master Sergeant,
serving in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He served in the Korean
Conflict and the Vietnam War.
Mr. James was a member of the North Huber Heights Baptist Church, the
Horace A. Irvin Lodge 647 AF and M, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton,
American Legion Post 200, Eagles Aerie 3958 and was an active member of
the Huber Heights Senior Citizens.
Surviving him are a daughter, D’Ann Crabtree of New Carlisle, Ohio; sons
Randall James of Springfield, Ohio, and Jerry James of Huber Heights,
Ohio; a sister, Dean Baker of Iberia; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marker & Heller
Funeral Home in Huber Heights, with Pastor Tom Bowman officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Huber Heights. Memorials may be

Willard “Willie” W. Witt, 46, of Tonganoxie, Kan., died Monday June 19,
1995, at his home. He was born March 20, 1949, in Edwardsville, Kan.
Mr. Witt was a 26-year member of Operating Engineers Local 101 as a
heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Argentine Assembly of
God Church.

Fannie Perkins, 98, Crocker, died Friday at General Leonard Wood Army
Community Hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1899, in Iberia, a daughter
of James and Florence Ponder Shackelford. She was married Dec. 20,
1917, in Iberia, to Willard Floyd Perkins, who died Jan. 8, 1984. She
was a homemaker. She was a member of the Iberia Congregational
Christian Church and the Iberia Community Club.
Survivors include: one sister, Annie Strayer, Eldon; one granddaughter,
three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. One
daughter, Mary Watts, died Oct. 28, 1997.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The
Rev. Rick Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Livingston
Cemetery, near Iberia. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

Allen Humphrey, 85, Dixon, died Tuesday at St. John’s Mercy Medical
Center, St. Louis. He was born July 27, 1912, in Miller County, a son
of Evert and Sarah Blankenship Humphrey. He was married to Mabel
Williams, who died April 5, 1967. He was married Sept. 5, 1969, in
Dixon, to Reba Jones Deardeuff, who survives at the home.
He was employed as a carpenter and in the maintenance department of
Brown Shoe Co., Dixon, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Burnett
Christian Church, Dixon, and the Dixon Saddle Club.
Other survivors include: two sons, Laymond Humphrey, Hermann, and
Raymond Humphrey, Kansas City; two stepsons, John Deardeuff and Kenneth
Deardeuff, both of Dixon; one stepdaughter, Wilma Harris, Edgar Springs;
two sisters, Delphia Wilson, Iberia, and Lorene Farless, Granite City,
Ill.; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and two
great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth M. Livingston, 90, Iberia died Wednesday at St. Marys Health
Center. She was born March 8, 1907, in Miller County, a daughter of
James and Laura Capehart Slawson. She was married July 4, 1926, in
Iberia, to Berry Livingston, who survives at the home.
She was a 1924 graduate of the Iberia Academy. She was a 50-year member
of the Iberia Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Iberia
First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Lita Lynn Keeth, Iberia; two
sisters, Edith Blanner, Kirkwood, and Eska Lee Cole Memphis, Tenn.; four
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by one son and one grandson.

Bobby Gene Moneymaker, 56, of Brumley died Tuesday, Feb 6, 1996, at St.
Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born Oct. 29, 1939, in
Brumley to John Henry and Virginia Vaughan Moneymaker. His mother
survives at Brumley. On Nov. 3, 1990, he was married in Iberia to
Glennis Pritchett, who survives at the home.
Mr. Moneymaker had worked the last 15 years at Waters Edge Homeowners
Association in Lake Ozark. He was a member of Curry Church near Iberia,
and served as a church trustee.
Also surviving him are two sons, Thomas Brauer of Mesa, Ariz., and
Donald Brauer of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Jodie Luttrell of Brumley;
two brothers, Louis Moneymaker of Anderson and Dewayne Moneymaker of
Brumley; two sisters, Ina Wall of Quapaw, Okla., and Barbara Harrison of
Iberia; and six grandchildren.

Pearl A. Shelton, 98, of Iberia died Sunday, October 29, 1995, at the
Miller County Nursing Home in Tuscumbia. She was born July 31, 1897, in
Iberia to James and Mandy Colvin Plemmons. On March 19, 1919, she was
married to Alvie Shelton, who died Feb. 20, 1960.
Mrs. Shelton was a lifelong resident of Miller County and a member of
the Iberia First Christian Church.
Surviving her are a son, Cecil Shelton of Kansas City; two daughters,
Reba Allen and Veta Humphrey, both of Iberia; 21 grandchildren; and
several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Three sons,
Hubert, Louie and Glen Shelton, and a daughter, Altha Mae Shackleford,
preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home in
Iberia with the Rev. Stan Way officiating. Burial was in the Iberia

Kenneth C. Kellison, 58, of Kansas City, Kan., died Friday, Oct. 22,
1993 in the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas. He was born March 21, 1935
in St. Louis and lived near Brumley before moving to Kansas City, Kan.,
in 1958. He was the son of Charles and Irene Keeth Kellison of Iberia.
His mother, Irene Winfrey, survives at Brumley. On Aug 17, 1962 he was
married to Mary L. Hamacher of Iberia, who survives at the home.
Mr. Kellison was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked for the Norfolk
Southern Railroad Company for 35 years, retiring as a switchman in 1992.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Surviving him in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Kenneth
Dale Kellison of Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Tara Thomas of Kansas
City, Kan.; two half-brothers, Duane Winfrey of Pensacola, Fla., and
Ronnie Winfrey of Brumley; three half-sisters, Wilma Colvin of Jefferson
City, Sarah Abrams of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Helen Gripp of Bethesda,
Md.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Porter and Sons Funeral Chapel in
Kansas City, Kan. with burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery,

Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born Oct.

Orville E. Pendleton, 75, of Dixon died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1993 at his
home. He was born July 10, 1918 in Maries County to Jeff and Anna
Machon Pendleton. On Nov. 24, 1942 he was married at Waynesville to
Agnes McKee, who survives at the home.
Mr. Pendleton served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as
a cook at the General Leonard Wood Army Hospital at Ft. Leonard Wood
until his retirement. He attended the Iberia church of the Nazarene for
more than 30 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, John Earl Pendleton of

Roy L. Woolley, 70, of Eldon, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1993 at Truman
Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia. He was born July 15, 1923
in Bagnell to Ben and Laura James Woolley.
Mr. Woolley lived in St. Louis for 45 years where he was a final
assembly inspector for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. He moved to Eldon in
1990 and was a member of VFW Post 2442. He served in the U.S. Army
during World War II.
Surviving him are four daughters, Georgia Lee Davis of Clayton, Marleen
Anconetani of Foristell, Deborah Ann Miller of Nome, Alaska, and Lorinda

Kenneth C. Shelton, 70 of LaPorte City, Iowa died Nov. 7, 1993 at his
home. He was born Feb 2, 1923 in rural Crocker to John and Mary Long
Shelton. In 1947 he was married to Geneva Clark of Iberia in Harrison,
Ark.
The Sheltons made their home in the LaPorte/Waterloo area where he
worked as a plumber and sheet-metal worker and for Sears. He was a 1942
graduate of Crocker High School and he served with the U.S. military in
the European Theater during World War II.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Whitney of Slater, Iowa, and Linda
Grabenbrauer of Marshalltown, Iowa; a son, Jeffrey Shelton of Waterloo,
Iowa; six grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbert Shelton of Iberia,
Dannie Shelton of Crocker and Lester Shelton of Richland; and three

Ross Brown, 85, of Nyssa, Oregon, died Wednesday, June 2, 1993. He was
born June 18, 1907, at Brumley to David E. and Lura B. Robinett Brown.
He was first married to Edith Thornton. He later was married to Maxine
DeRock, who survives at the home. Mr. Brown had lived in Nyssa, Oregon,
for more than 50 years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by four sous, David Ross
Brown, Gene Brown, Ken Brown and Don Brown; a brother, Claude Brown of
Ontario, Oregon; a sister, Hazel Humphrey of Iberia; several
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The body was cremated.

Mr. Kee was a painting contractor in St. Louis until his retirement. He

He owned and operated a printing company for 30 years, and formerly
worked for Multi Graphics Printing Company in Missouri. He was a member
of Castlewood Baptist Church, Vallejo, and was active in the Jackson
Rotary Club. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in
Missouri.

Sean H. Scotto Di Perta, 23 of Iberia died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1993 at
Iberia of injuries he suffered in an automobile accident on Missouri 17,
two miles north of Iberia. He was born Sept 4, 1970 in Mexico, Mo., to
Henri and Shirley Tarrants Scotto Di Perta, who survive at Iberia.
Mr. Scotto was a 1988 graduate of Iberia High School where he played
varsity football for four years. He had worked for his parents at the
Hummingbird Restaurant at Iberia and for the past several months had
been a dispatcher for the Miller County Sheriff’s Department. He had
recently graduated from law enforcement training in Columbia. He was a
member of the St. Cornelius Catholic Church at Crocker.
Other survivors are two sisters, Anna Sweet of Atlanta, Ga., and
Stephanie DeVore of Iberia; a brother, Bryan Snyder of the home; and his
paternal grandmother, Louise Scotto Di Perta of Altamontee Springs, Fla.

Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born Nov. 18, 1929,

Mr. Deuschle lived in the Henley community most of his life. He was a

Manufacturing in Jefferson City for 20 years. He also operated an
automobile repair garage at Brazito for several years and was employed
with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 15 years prior to his
retirement last October.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Deuschle is survived by a son, Randy
Deuschle of Jefferson City; a daughter, Melody Kiral of Henley; two
sisters, Irene Forester of Iberia and Gladys Gordon of Russellville; and
five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Frieden’s United Church
of Christ at Brazito with Pastor Michael Miller officiating. Burial was
in Hickory Hill Cemetery at Henley under the direction of Phillips
Funeral Home of Eldon.

Carl W. Eiffert, 73, of Iberia died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1993 at Boone
Hospital Center in Columbia. He was born Aug. 18, 1920 at St. James to
William and Myrtle Humphrey Eiffert. On April 19, 1941 he was married
at Lancaster, Mo. to Mildred Sloan, who survives at the home.
Mr. Eiffert worked for E. I. Duponte Construction in many cities across
the U.S. for a number of years. He then worked in construction in
Phoenix, Ariz., for 12 years before moving to Alaska where he worked in
construction and was an inspector for the government for 20 years. He
had lived in Iberia for the past 15 years. Also surviving is a sister,
Margie Blackburn of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stevinson-Mossman
Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Stan Way officiating. Burial will be
in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Phyllis L. Jones Farnham of Tampico, Ill., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1993
at St. Mary’s Hospital—Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., of lupus. She
was born Feb 21, 1928 in Iberia to Leslie and Ruth (Arnold) Jones. On
June 29, 1947 she was married in St. Louis to Jack Farnham, who survives
at the home.
Mrs. Farnham was a teacher’s aid at Bi-County Special Co-op for eight
years, retiring five years ago. She was a member of the Tampico United
Methodist Church, the Rebecca Circle and the UMW at the church and the
Tampico Eastern Star. She was reared and went to school in Iberia.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three daughters, Patricia
Rittenhouse of Fairbury, Ill., Karen Garrett of Genesco, Ill., and
Cynthia Melton of Tampick, Ill.; a son Rodney Farnham of Mishawaka,
Ind.; 10 grandchildren; a great-granadson; a brother, Doyle Jones of St.
Louis; and a sister, Eva Jo Grady of Iberia.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Tampico United
Methodist Church with burial in Tampico Memorial Cemetery.

Brice Spalding, 84, Hickory Hill, died Friday at Villa Marie Skilled
Nursing Facility. He was born July 31, 1913, in Eugene, a son of Ira R.
Spalding and Minnie Mae Rush. He was married June 6, 1937, in Eldon, to
Naomi B. Dawson, who died Nov. 5, 1992.
He was a lifelong resident of the Eugene and Hickory Hill area. He was
employed with DeLong’s for many years in structural steel and spent
several seasons building roads in Alaska. An avid quail hunter and
fisherman, he was a member of Eugene Christian Church and the Masonic
Lodge.
Survivors include: three daughters, Judy Tomlinson, Kansas City, and
Sandra Millard and Nancy Martin, both of Jefferson City; one son, John
Spalding, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.

A lifetime resident of Miller County, he worked as head custodian at the
Eldon public school system prior to retirement. An Army veteran of
World War II, he was a member of Eldon VFW Post 2442. He was a member

Regional Medical Center, Boise, Idaho. He was born Aug 16, 1909, in

2, 1931, in Columbia, to Nevelle Elizabeth Clatterbuck, who died Feb.
27, 1996.
He attended school in Olean and public schools in Columbia. He owned
and operated Stepp Market, New Bloomfield, and then was sales manager at
Cudahy Meat Packing Co., Gary Ind., for more than 30 years.
He worked as a salesman for DeLong’s Inc., and then was employed as a
purchasing agent for the Missouri Department of Revenue. He co-owned
and co-operated Stepp Antiques and Collectibles. He was a member of Dry
Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Ronald Dale Stepp, Boise, Idaho; and one
daughter, Barbara Rhea Stepp, Des Moines, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev.

Raymond M. Sullens, 92, Columbia, died Friday at Columbia Regional Care
Center. He was born May 17, 1905, in Eugene, a son of William J. and
Barbara Engelbrecht Sullens. He was married October 21, 1934, in Eldon,
to Lois M. Holzhauser, who survives at the home.
He was employed for 40 years with the Rock Island Railroad and also
worked on his farm. He served the Eugene Golden Acres Board of
Directors, Cole R-5 School District Board of Directors and the Eugene
Cemetery and Spring Garden Cemetery Board of Directors. He was a
50-year member of Eugene Christian Church, where he also served on its
board.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Ruby Balsley, Columbia, and
Lois Jean George, Rantoul, Ill.; and five grandchildren. One son,
Kenneth Sullens, preceded him in death.

1945, in Kansas City, to Lora Faye Murray, who survives at the home.
A veteran of the Army Air Corps, he was employed as a turbine operator
at Union Electric. He was a member of the Christian Church, Brumley,
the American Legion and the Lions Club of Brumley.

Care Center. She was born July 14, 1909, in Meta, a daughter of William

Anthony, to Conrad Holtmeyer, who died Feb. 22, 1971.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church,
St. Anthony, the St. Anthony Senior Citizens Group and St. Ann’s
Sodality. In 1992 she received the DAR Mother of the Year Award.
Survivors include: seven sons, Ignatius “Stub” Holtmeyer, Ralph
Holtmeyer, Harold Holtmeyer, Bernard Holtmeyer and Daniel Holtmeyer, all
of St. Anthony, Raymond Holtmeyer, Clearfield, Pa., and Roman Holtmeyer,
Meta; two daughters, Margaret Buechter, St. Ann, and Marcella Bock,
Meta; one brother, August Herx, Jefferson City; one sister, Marie
Gudeman, St. Anthony; 42 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and five
step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Victor Holtmeyer, James

Clem Hake, 90, Eugene, died Friday at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing
Facility, Jefferson City. He was born Sept 14, 1907, in Marys Home, a

Marys Home, to Augusta Berendzen, who survives at the home.
He lived on a farm all his life and worked in construction. He was a
prison guard for 10 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Our
Lady of the Snows Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is
also survived by one sister, Martha Berendzen, Marys Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic

Lloyd E. Stokes, 84, Valley Park, died Monday at St. Luke’s Hospital,
Chesterfield. He was born April 12, 1913, in Crocker, a son of Tommy
and Maude Slavins Stokes. He was married June 25, 1938, to Wilma Wall,
who died Jan. 10, 1970. He was married Nov. 20, 1971, in Ripley, Tenn.,
to Jeanette Drake Harvey, who survives at the home.
He retired from McDonell-Douglas Aircraft, St. Louis, in 1978, after 33
years. He was a member of the Machinists Union Local 837 in Hazelwood.
He moved from St. Louis County to Cuba, Mo., in 1978, then returned to
Valley Park in 1991.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Peggy Watkins and Donna
Hunnicutt, both of Lake St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Janice Lamb,
O’Fallon, and Winnie Morgan, High Ridge; two brothers, Barney Stokes,

Iberia, until her retirement. She was a member of the Brays Advent Christian

Auxiliary in Iberia.
