DEATH OF A PIONEER
Walter A. Miller Died at the Home of His Daughter, Mrs. Charles
Scheuneman, Monday.
After having suffered a stroke four weeks ago, Walter A. Miller
passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Scheuneman, where
he had made his home during the past five and one-half years. During
his illness he had been given every care, but he failed to respond to
treatment after a late relapse and the end came at 10:40 o'clock Monday
morning. He had been a resident of Franklin county 41 years, coming
here from Thayer county.
The wife of the deceased passed away about 19 years ago, and he is
survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. Pearl Barber of
Hastings; Mrs. Mina Paulson of Bloomington; Mrs. Nona Scheuneman of
Franklin, and Ray W. Miller of Oakland, California, all of whom are
here for the funeral. Services will be held at the Hutchins funeral
home at 2:30 this Thursday afternoon, Rev. A. W. Lapthorne officiating,
and interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Obituary of W. A. Miller
Walter A. Miller, an account of whose death appeared in the
Sentinel last week, was born December 14, 1856, at Millersburg, Mercer
county, Illinois, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nona
Scheuneman, near Franklin, Nebr., August 12, 1935, aged 78 years, 6
months, and 28 days.
He was united in marriage to Edith E. Terry August 19, 1885, his
wife having preceded him in death May 13, 1917. To this union five
children were born: Mrs. Mina Paulson of Bloomington, Nebraska; Mrs.
Nona Scheuneman, Franklin; Ray W. Miller, Oakland, Calif.; Lee R.
Miller, deceased; and Mrs. Pearl Barber, of Hastings, Nebr.
Mr. Miller came to Nebraska in 1886, and in 1894 came to Franklin
county, where he had since lived. He had a home in Bloomington, but
the last few years had been staying most of the time with his daughter,
Mrs. Nona Scheuneman.
He leaves to mourn his passing his four children, 12
grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother, two stepsisters, a
half-brother and a host of friends.
His creed of life was to live by the side of the road and be a
friend to man; his generousity to the church, to his friends and to the
ones needing aid, will long be remembered.
Funeral services were held at the Hutchins funeral home Thursday
afternoon, August 15, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. A. W. Lapthorne
officiating, in the presence of a large number of friends of the
deceased and family. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
Now the laborer's task is o'er;
Now the battle day is past;
Now upon the farther shore
Lands the voyager at last.
Father, in thy gracious keeping
Leave we now thy servant sleeping.
There the tears of earth are dried;
There its hidden things are clear;
There the work of life is tried
By a juster Judge than here.
Father, in thy gracious keeping
Leave we now thy servant sleeping.
Now we lift our tear-dimmed eyes
To the smiling skies above,
And we know our dear one lies
In the bosom of thy love.
Father, in thy gracious keeping
Leave we now thy servant sleeping.
